Fu ili saw Shen ng’s bewildered look and quickly pulled her aside.

"That, this person is the manager of our bus company, this one is the chief financial officer, and this is the secretary from our materials departnt."

"Ah, a pleasure to et you."

Secretary Tang almost couldn’t help but laugh out loud when he saw how Shen ng greeted the others—it was so stiff and obviously unfamiliar.

"Comrade Shen, this is the official appointnt letter from the County Committee for your exceptional promotion. From now on, you will serve as Ning County’s Revolutionary Committee Secretary General and Director of the Research Departnt. The County Committee has already set up a dedicated office for you, and all the necessary supplies have been prepared. You may take up the post imdiately, or you can rest for a couple of days before assuming the role, depending on your schedule."

As soon as Secretary Tang finished speaking, everyone in the office was taken aback, but Shen ng only paused for a mont. To onlookers, it seed like soone who is destined for great things—to remain so calm in the face of such good fortune was truly impressive.

"Secretary Tang, could you co over for a mont? I have sothing to ask you in private."

Secretary Tang smiled amiably, thinking she was overwheld with joy. He signaled to the others and quickly approached Shen ng.

"What’s up, Director Shen?"

"Secretary Tang, this title they’ve given is quite a mouthful, and I don’t really understand it. I’m afraid I might beco a laughingstock if I repeat it, so please explain to , what exactly does this position entail?"

Secretary Tang: "....."

I thought you were unfazed by danger, but it turns out your knowledge is just not up to scratch!!!

"It’s all detailed on the appointnt letter, including the specific scope of the role. But let put it this way—for everyone except so county leaders, you’re the highest authority."

"..... Your words there... the whole County Committee is made up of leaders. Apart from them, what’s left? Just , a small fry."

"Let put it like this, Comrade Shen, from now on, the entire county’s Revolutionary Committee directors will follow your orders."

Shen ng: "....."

Ha, it’s really not a pleasant task. It sounds like they want to be the laborer, making the whole Ning County’s communes as prosperous as Xiangyang Commune, filling everyone’s pockets, right?!!!

Hard work for one, happiness for tens of thousands!!!

"Secretary Tang, would you say this is a good job? What is Mr. Li thinking, making work like a laborer for the whole county? He used to be so nice to , calling Xiao ng as affectionately as if I were his own daughter. Has he been deceiving all this ti???"

Secretary Tang: "...how could that be possible? Everyone knows how Mr. Li dotes on you. This position has been hard-earned by his efforts on your behalf, and now you don’t appreciate it?"

Shen ng: "......"

Why are you acting so guilty, and why can’t you look in the eyes when you talk???

"Well, there are still matters to attend to with the secretary, so I’ll head back first. Tomorrow, Director Qi asks that you bring Mingyang and the kids over for dinner at her house; don’t forget. She says she misses Ming Kai."

"Haha!"

Secretary Tang, realizing his discomfort after seeing the expression on Shen ng’s face, sensed maybe their secretary had been sowhat underhanded.

He cramd the appointnt letter into Shen ng’s arms, briefly greeted the people from the bus company, and took off with his group, running as though a dog was chasing him.

Shen ng felt that the rapport previously developed with Secretary Tang had gone down the drain!!!

The people at the public transportation company congratulated her a few more tis.

Shen ng thought for a mont and decided to finish her last shift, tidy up everything that needed to be put away, and took advantage of the lunch break to slip away to her private space. She gathered so fine fruits, a few packs of chocolate, and several bottles of osmanthus perfu bought from the small commodity market. She gave one bottle to each person in the office, and all the edible gifts were left on the table for everyone to share.

But she prepared a set of skincare products especially for Fu ili, products that were common yet hard to co by these days.

"Hey, you’re getting promoted and leaving, why go to all this expense?"

"It’s the least I can do, Director. I’ve been here for such a long ti, and you have taken such good care of . Leaders say nice things, but I know only you truly care about us frontline workers."

Fu ili was flattered and sowhat carried away.

"What’s so big about it? I’m your leader, so it’s totally normal for to care about you. Soon you’ll be an official employee at the county governnt. If we need to seek your help in the future, you can’t refuse to lend a hand!"

Shen ng blinked and said, "As long as it doesn’t involve principle errors, doesn’t harm others’ interests, or doesn’t involve money or murder, I’ll still offer help if I can."

Fu ili: "......"

Isn’t that just a roundabout way of saying no???

"Well then, that’s good. You know what, I happen to be free today, so let’s have dinner together tonight, my treat. Once you leave, we won’t have many chances to gather like this, and next ti we et, even our statuses will have changed."

"Okay, Director Fu, I will let the sisters outside know. I need to make a trip to the county hospital later and inform my girlfriends, so why don’t they all co, and we’ll eat together!"

Fu ili’s expression stiffened slightly as she looked at Shen ng’s bright eyes before finally saying, "Okay, okay!"

"Then I’ll go and let them know, you’re really a good person, Director Fu."

After leaving Fu ili’s office, Shen ng invited everyone in the office, telling them that Director Fu was treating them to dinner at the State-Owned Restaurant tonight. She spoke so sincerely that everyone was excited and cheering ensued.

Fu ili was a person who loved to ingratiate herself with others, otherwise, she wouldn’t have asked for favors to attend the wedding of Hu Biao and Li Qianqian. This ti she had to teach her a lesson, or else, once she got to the County Committee, who knows what tricks she might play using her na as a banner to get others to do her bidding!

It’s not that Shen ng was excessively cautious; before, Hu Biao had almost fallen for Fu ili’s sche, which made her fearful of being ostracized while at the public transportation company.

When Yu Xueli and Wu Xianglan heard about a free al, they imdiately ca over with their handbags. Shen ng noticed that Wu Xianglan had even brought two lunchboxes, planning to take ho leftovers after eating.

The two understood Shen ng’s intentions, so they specifically chose the best dishes. Everyone at the table praised Fu ili for being a good director. Shen ng held back tears and raised her teacup in thanks, a gesture so heartfelt that it touched everyone deeply.

Fu ili’s eyes also reddened. She was worried about the money she was spending. This al alone swallowed half a month’s salary, but thinking about Shen ng’s bright future and the help she could give, Fu ili clenched her teeth and endured, hoping that the money she spent today might yield greater value in the future.

As Wu Xianglan was leaving, she packed up a portion of beef in sauce and a box of dumplings. Her two little kids at ho had been craving dumplings for days, and today she finally got her chance.

Yu Xueli also hesitantly packed two dishes and so dumplings into her lunchbox.

"I’m sorry, Director, my two sisters are from the countryside and aren’t used to big occasions, didn’t an to embarrass you!"

"No, no need to worry, no need to worry, as long as you’re happy."

"Wow, Director, you are so kind. No wonder my sister-in-law always ntions you. Hey, waiter, please pack five at buns for too. Uncle Guai who drives the bullock cart is still waiting hungry; I need to bring him so food."

Fu ili: "....."

Can you just stop talking, isn’t this enough already? You’re treating like a wallet, aren’t you, you two ungrateful won!!!
