Before leaving, Shen ng packed up everything she brought for Li Qianqian. She put the milk bottle and a small can of milk powder in the cabinet but hid the rest of the items.
After Li Qianqian put on her belly band, her waist imdiately felt more comfortable and didn’t hurt as much as before. It seed like all her internal organs weren’t dangling around anymore.
Shen ng opened the door and called for Luo Shihao, wanting Li Qianqian to recognize him.
"Shihao, co here, et your little aunt."
Luo Shihao: "...."
What’s with the sudden little aunt title? He was a bit befuddled. Just within an afternoon, he went from an unemployed youth to an official worker at the textile factory, then recognized the textile factory director’s daughter-in-law and the county party secretary’s daughter as his little aunt. Would he be walking sideways at the textile factory in the future???
"Hello little aunt, this little black-haired head here must be my brother, haha, he really looks quite...unique."
Li Qianqian: "....."
She had to hold back; her child was indeed very dark, no wonder people talked.
Luo Shihao was a bit surprised; he thought Li Qianqian would receive more pampering during her postnatal care. But seeing her ghostly appearance, he glanced at Shen ng with so surprise, yet her face remained calm.
After finishing her business, Shen ng was ready to say farewell.
Granny Yang, seeing Li Qianqian not making a fuss, thought she had resigned to her fate and imdiately showed a smug expression.
"Aunt Yang, we’ll be heading back now. Qianqian has just given birth and might be a bit delicate, so please be patient with her. Don’t overexert yourself, and make sure to rest when it’s ti. You should rest when the baby sleeps too. Look at the dark circles under your eyes from fatigue. Have so good food at ho if you have any; it all benefits Qianqian!"
"Oh my, you really know how to sweet-talk, don’t you worry, dear. Aunt will manage. Co visit when you have the ti!"
Shen ng chuckled and walked away with Luo Shihao.
"Second aunt, why say such things to her? Just look at that old lady, radiant and plump; you can tell she hasn’t skimped on spoiling herself. And then there’s my little aunt, all withered, and the little black egg, clearly a sign that the mother and child haven’t been living well."
"Second aunt?"
Luo Shihao chuckled and said, "I just need a way to distinguish them; in just half a day, I’ve got two aunts, and it’s hard to tell them apart. I have an elder sister-in-law, too, so this order makes it easy, no confusion."
Shen ng: "....."
You’re quite the clever one!!!
"Here, take this with you tomorrow morning and go to the County Committee Office to find Qianqian’s mother. The security guard might not let you in, but you can say that you’re Hu Biao’s nephew and have urgent business with her, and then you just... rember to have Qianqian’s mom bring a couple of skilled and tenacious people with her."
Luo Shihao stroked the item in his hand and peeked under a corner of the handkerchief, recognizing the pitiful look of the little black egg. His heart instantly understood Shen ng’s intentions, and he imdiately blew rainbow farts her way.
"Shihao, if you get this done, don’t worry, not only will you be able to strut around the textile factory, but you’ll float through it, and no one will stop you."
Luo Shihao was thrilled, clutching the handkerchief-wrapped photo as if it was not just a simple picture, but his future status.
But second aunt’s words are a bit much; floating around... isn’t that like a ghost???
After much turmoil, Shen ng headed ho, and it was almost evening, with the sky starting to darken. Lu Zhenping was waiting at the village entrance with a bunch of kids, the north wind howling, blowing pitifully against him and his sons.
"Why wait here in the cold? Hurry on ho!"
Lu Zhenping took the things from Shen ng’s hands and greeted the old man who was driving the cart. The man happily went on his way. Shen ng hadn’t caught the ride on her way back, and riding the bicycle was difficult. It was only because she encountered a draft ox cart that she was able to make it ho.
"I couldn’t wait; their minds wander to terrible places. It was getting dark, and you hadn’t returned. I thought you’d run into trouble with scamrs."
Shen ng: "..."
If a scamr ran into her, she’d have sold them off, believe it or not!!!
"Mom, why were you gone so long? Waaa... I thought you were lost, Mom!"
"Mom, co back earlier next ti."
"Mom, I don’t want anything else, just don’t co back so late, it’s really scary!"
After she spoke, she threw herself into Shen ng’s arms, imdiately arousing envy in the other three boys. They were boys who couldn’t hug their mom whenever they wanted, which was truly jealousy-inducing!
"Alright, alright, I’m wrong, I’m wrong, next ti I’ll co back earlier, okay? There was a good reason this ti, otherwise, I would have been back early in the afternoon."
"Let’s talk at ho, it’s too cold out here. I made so brown sugar ginger tea for you. Have a bowl before eating."
"Okay!"
After they got ho, Shen ng didn’t keep anything from Lu Zhenping and told him straight away about the purchase of a work spot at the textile factory. He was soon going back to his place, and so connections had to be made, but he didn’t expect that Shen ng was already quietly working on it herself, nor did he expect that Li He Ping’s sister was being so grinded down.
"This is really going too far. I’ll give He Ping a call later to let him know. He’s a lively one, quick-witted. He wouldn’t let his sister suffer unwarranted bullying."
"Ah, you didn’t see it. I felt so heartbroken seeing Qianqian like that. If anyone bullied my sister, I’d fight them to the death. It’s good to tell He Ping too. If we don’t make Hu family understand Li family’s stance properly this ti, Qianqian is going to have a hard life ahead!"
Marriages aren’t just about two people in love coming together; it’s a union of two families. Luckily, Li Qianqian and Hu Biao had their own separate house; otherwise, life would be even harder.
Shen ng wanted to make a big issue out of it. Hu Jinbu was the Textile Factory Director, and he couldn’t afford to lose such face. If outsiders found out that Hu family roughed up a daughter-in-law who just had a baby, both their reputation and future would be ruined. So after things escalated, she would have to intervene; otherwise, even arranging Wu Xianglan’s job would beco difficult.
The next day.
Shen ng was tired from the day before and got up a bit late. While sitting in the yard knitting a sweater to pass the ti, she saw Zhou Jiaojiao arriving all flushed with excitent.
"Elder sister-in-law, are you busy? Jiaxuan is worried I might overstrain myself while pregnant, so he bought so red dates to nourish my body. I’ve brought you a pack; this stuff is great. You can split one open and brew it as tea, it’ll last for months. Normally, I wouldn’t dream of giving them away."
Shen ng: "...."
What’s wrong with her, showing off dried red dates at her place???
"Elder sister-in-law, you might not know yet, but I went back to my parents’ a few days ago and ran into Aunt Lin, you know, Textile Factory Director’s wife Lin Rong, Aunt Lin, she likes a lot. She has already secured my job and I can even start later. Ah, it really settles one of my worries. In the future, I’ll still have a secure job. I won’t be fussy anymore; higher wages are always better, right?"
Shen ng: "...."
Just knew it, a slippery old turtle doesn’t die so easily!!!
