Now that I had liquidated my stocks and had so run-ins with the distant family branches, I figured it would be wise to stop by a nearby weapon store to pick up a simple portable weapon.
I planned to visit the Military Tech Headquarters in a month to get Seolyi’s custom armor, so a serious weapon could wait until then. For now, I just needed a basic self-defense item, sothing simple to carry for ergencies.
But…
Bang!
1 point.
At the shooting range attached to the store, I had fired ten shots—and only managed to hit the target once. That single hit was a asly one-point shot, aning it barely clipped the edge of the target.
“….”
Trying to play it off, I casually lowered the gun, acting like it was nothing.
“Wow!”
Soo-ah marveled.
“Boss, I’ve never seen a single point before.”
“…It’s my first ti shooting; isn’t it normal?”
“But it’s a gun with a scope, and you got nine misses and one point… and it was only a ten-ter target….”
“….”
With nothing to say, I set the gun down on the counter.
‘It’s all the (forr) Go Muyeol’s fault.’
And it’s not just blaming soone—it’s genuinely true. Holding the gun makes my hands shake uncontrollably! How am I supposed to hit anything like this?
“Sir, it’s normal not to hit your target the first ti you shoot. But if you’re finding it difficult, how about this model?”
The sales associate flashed a business smile and recomnded a different gun. The one I’d tried had a scope, while this new one was a bare handgun.
Wouldn’t that be even harder to hit with?
“This model cos with an auto-aiming module. It’s synchronized with the trajectory tracking in the bullet, so it’ll help guide the bullet toward the target.”
“So, I just shoot, and it’ll hit?”
“Uh… not quite. But if you aim close to the target and fire, it’s designed to head in the right direction as much as possible.”
“Sounds pricey.”
“Yes… a bit. But it’s worth every won.”
I took the gun he handed , loaded it, and fired at the target.
Bang!
9 points.
“Oh?”
I fired a few more tis. My shots consistently ranged between seven and nine points, without a single miss.
“This isn’t bad.”
Considering it was only a temporary weapon, this would more than do.
“Uh… Boss, that model…”
Soo-ah whispered to .
“It’s got a high misfire rate, so it’s not often used. If there are more than two people in front of you, it’s uncertain who it’ll hit.”
“….”
So basically, unless I’m in a war zone, it’s impractical. What if I accidentally hit soone like Soo-ah?
“If you pair it with an eye implant, the accuracy improves, but… you’re not able to get an eye implant, sir.”
“Not able? Why do you think that?”
“Pardon?”
“?”
Soo-ah looked at , a bit disoriented.
“Aren’t chaebol heirs… strictly against implants? Even you haven’t had one, sir… and I doubt the chairman would allow it….”
“Is that… right?”
Well, I hadn’t gotten one because of my possession mories…
Thinking about it, though, seeing that Go Muyeol’s body didn’t have any enhancents, Soo-ah’s probably right.
But I was planning to have Seolyi trained to get an implant.
“Anyway, that gun is almost impossible to use without an implant, even if you do have one.”
“Then what about you? You’d be able to use it. Want to buy it for you?”
“I don’t need it. I’m a deadeye, after all.”
“You’re that good?”
“I’ve even won shooting contests around here. I was quite the skilled officer, you know.”
“Oh? Really?”
Soo-ah picked up a gun, ready to demonstrate.
Without even close comparison, she shot rapid-fire, hitting the 10-point mark with nine out of ten shots, with the last shot just barely missing at nine points. It didn’t even take her five seconds to score all ten hits.
“Ooooh.”
“Hehe.”
Soo-ah tilted the gun and blew on the muzzle. I hadn’t expected her to be this proficient.
“What about Seolyi?”
“….”
Baek Seol silently picked up a gun.
Then, even faster and with higher accuracy than Soo-ah, she scored near-perfectly.
“Wow, as expected of a knight.”
“….”
Maybe it’d be better just to get them weapons.
That seems more sensible.
In the end, I left the store having ard Soo-ah and Seolyi instead of buying anything for myself. I did pick up one gun, though—the auto-aim model.
Although there’s a chance of accidental misfires, it should be fine in a situation where there are only enemies in front. Or I’ll just try my best to aim carefully….
“My real weapon will be custom-made at Military Tech Headquarters—the most expensive one.”
After all, this is just sothing I plan to carry temporarily. This will do for now.
At Military Tech, I intend to commission a fully armored suit, one that costs hundreds of billions. In gas, it’s almost like endga gear, but in reality, with money, power, and connections, anything is possible. And I’ve got all that.
If possible, I’ll consider getting one for Soo-ah as well.
Honestly, judging by her stats, I thought Soo-ah might be a bit unsuitable as a combat “Jojob(?)”, but given her skill with guns, it might be worth it.
“…Master.”
As we got into the AV, Soo-ah hesitantly spoke up.
She looked as though sothing significant had happened.
“What is it?”
“The Chief Prosecutor of Incheon… has been killed.”
“The Chief Prosecutor? The one from the case with the butter guy?”
“Yes! Apparently, soone appeared on his commute and blasted him with a Terminator.”
I turned on Tube.
The entire algorithm was filled with news about the incident.
So leaked footage was also circulating, showing a motorcycle speeding past the Chief Prosecutor’s car on his way to work and firing what appeared to be a Terminator weapon.
The surrounding vehicles were obliterated, and it’s estimated that at least twelve people were killed. “Estimated,” because people struck by the Terminator are torn to shreds….
“….”
This felt unsettling.
The Chief Prosecutor died?
And with a Terminator?
I dialed Na-eun. She picked up after about four rings.
“Yes, Master. What’s going on?”
“You sound calm. I’d expect things to be chaotic.”
“Ah, but a true elite prosecutor must remain composed in the midst of chaos. It’s not like your ‘presence’ is going in and out of my privates right now.”
“…The special prosecutor must be under pressure, right?”
“There’s nothing concrete yet. Everything’s in turmoil. But they’ll be pressured soon, considering the Chief Prosecutor was killed with a Terminator.”
A Terminator is a weapon permitted only under special prosecution, used solely by prosecutors. It requires biotric authentication, so only prosecutors registered with the prosecution office’s server can use it.
Yet the assassin used a Terminator to kill the Chief Prosecutor.
Naturally, suspicion is now falling on the current special prosecution team.
‘Are they trying to hinder the special prosecutor again?’
The helted assailant couldn’t have done all this alone.
The idea that a single person killed the Chief Prosecutor with a Terminator weapon is absurd.
The Terminator, being a powerful weapon, leaves data on the prosecution’s server.
Moreover, the assailant would have used implants to escape the scene, which also leaves a digital footprint.
In other words,
Using the Terminator to kill the Chief Prosecutor is effectively a self-admission of guilt.
So, if they specifically chose a Terminator over other weapons…
‘It’s a ssage. And they must have backing.’
Soone powerful enough to hack the prosecution’s server is involved.
Just like I had Seo Eun-mi cover up and mislead during an investigation.
‘Soone who can manipulate the server, kill the Chief Prosecutor without hesitation, and has a reason to do so.’
There’s only one answer:
Jeon Seong-hyun’s family.
“I understand their anger, but was this necessary? What a sha.”
“Pardon?”
“No, just talking to myself.”
“Our special prosecutor is currently conducting an internal investigation. We’re checking the alibis of all prosecutors who have access to a Terminator and have requested logs from the prosecution’s information departnt.”
“Good. Keep posted if anything unusual cos up.”
“Yes, sir~.”
I ended the call.
“I tried to settle things in a gentlemanly way, but they’re pushing it.”
Jeon Seong-hyun dared to ss with my Jojob.
Honestly, I wanted to kill his entire family line, but I held back.
What cris have his parents and siblings committed? Imagine how unfair it would be if they died out of nowhere.
But, unfortunately, they’ve chosen to take it further.
Now, I have no choice but to act.
You’re saying it’s just the Chief Prosecutor who was killed?
Maybe so.
But since I’m the one who killed their son, what guarantee do I have that the Terminator aid at the Chief Prosecutor won’t be turned on next?
There’s none.
Once a crazed person has a weapon, they can aim it at anyti.
‘The one thing that bothers … why didn’t they target first?’
If it were , I would’ve gone for myself first.
I’m the strongest target, so why waste ti killing the Chief Prosecutor and giving ti to prepare?
Suddenly, Go Minji’s words ca to mind.
“The parents, maybe. But the family doesn’t end with the mother and the guy you beat to death, right? All those connections—they won’t all be united for revenge, will they?”
“Oh… could it be?”
“There are so many cowards. They’re even getting in each other’s way to avoid drawing trouble to themselves.”
“Could it be they’re deliberately doing this as a warning to ?”
