The wood carving gradually took shape, and the corpse under the stake tried to climb up restlessly.
Bai Yi twisted his body to remind The Reverse God: “The main NPC Alex finally woke up! Reverse God, you should quickly complete his story line, so that we can unlock the rest of the [True End] line.”
The Reverse God humd, and he looked up at Alex who had just woken up: “Although I know that the whole world is just a scam created by the evil god who gave you power, I still don’t understand why you ended up becoming a believer of the evil god.”
“——It even ca to the point of sacrificing all the lives of the people to the evil god in order to create the illusion you wanted.”
Alex moved his hands, which were bound behind his back, but said nothing.
The Reverse God continued calmly: “In this world of war, a huge explosion occurred in the town the night before yesterday. Soone poured paint on the town’s arsenal that night and set it on fire.”
“The entire rain forest was blown up, and almost all the soldiers in the rainforest were killed. However, these soldiers did not really die. Instead, they strangely turned into a half-dead state, walking around the rainforest in the form of corpses and body parts.”
“Whether it was using paint to blow up the arsenal or giving so many people the special potion you invented, did you do it all by yourself?” The Reverse God asked.
Alex lowered his head, blood dripping from the ends of his hair. He chuckled nervously twice: “I did.”
The Reverse God sighed.
“…We found you unconscious not far from the exploded arsenal. After confirming that you were still alive, we took you away to avoid monsters and escaped, until you were captured by this group of old-school zombie natives as a sacrifice, and you just woke up.”
“You killed so many people. Isn’t this contrary to your original intention of saving lives? Why did you do such a thing?”
“…Because I can’t save anyone.” Alex slowly raised his head, his eyes staring at the broken wooden sculpture of the old god with empty eyes. “Even in this illusory world, I can’t save anyone.”
The Reverse God followed Alex’s gaze, paused for a mont at the smiling face of the old evil god, and continued to ask: “What happened in the real world line?”
“… What happened…” Alex’s eyes were hazy and his face was twisted, as if he was trapped in a painful mory that he couldn’t bear to recall. “I saved Guy, but Guy… still died. He was burned to ashes. There was no possibility of resurrection.”
“Guy died on the eve of the war.”
“At that ti, I was eager to use my dicine to change everything, to save everyone, to undo this war…”
Alex smiled sarcastically: “But who could have known that in the end, I would be the one to ignites the arsenal with paint?”
“But this cowardly, deford country, the one I fought to protect, didn’t even dare to record in history what really happened.”
Alex laughed loudly: “They dare not write that it was , a native of this country with no flaws in my thinking from childhood to adulthood, a doctor dedicated to saving everyone, who set fire to the warehouse because he discovered the evil of war.”
“They were writing that a group of natives had attacked the munitions depot, using this to prove that they were right in starting the war – these natives were just as stupid and hopeless as their recruitnt advertisents said, and they were very worthy of being enslaved and blown to pieces.”
The Reverse God asked: “What did you do during the war?”
Alex was silent for a few seconds, his voice hoarse: “…I signed up for the assault team after Guy died. I wanted to take advantage of the chaos of the war to go deep into the indigenous tribe and see if the evil god statue that gave the power to change life and death could give an answer to save everyone.”
“It rained heavily on the day of the battle. When I swam across the lake, I was already shot with five or six bullets. I was dying.” Alex seed to want to laugh, but his mouth was pressed down, and he looked like he was about to cry. “… But I didn’t die. I saw the wooden sculpture of the evil god.”
“Then, I lay in a pool of blood, looking up at the wooden sculpture. I didn’t even have the strength to speak. I could only pray over and over in my heart, asking, ‘God, can you save everyone?’” Alex said in a daze, “… I don’t rember how long I prayed. Suddenly, I heard the sculpture talking to .”
The Reverse God reacted very quickly: “Driven by extre desire, you heard the evil god’s oracle? What did he say to you?”
Alex’s expression was blank. “He said he could make my wish co true, but he wanted to play a ga with him.”
“If I win the ga, I won’t have to pay the price of my wish coming true, and if I lose, I’ll be stuck in this ga forever.”
The Reverse God paused: “What ga?”
Alex’s breathing quickened. He looked at The Reverse God and said word by word, “A ga he designed called ‘The Dense Forest Frontier’”[1]
The Reverse God asked: “What is the content of the ga?”
Alex took a deep breath and looked sideways at the broken wooden sculpture of the evil god. “He will turn the tiline back to seven days before everything happened, and provide with unlimited amounts of red paint to create an army of undead.”
“I have a total of ten chances to reload the ga. He will keep rewinding the tiline to seven days ago. As long as I can prevent the final war once out of ten tis within these seven days, I will win the ga. Otherwise, I will lose.”
Alex hung his head: “I agreed to his request.”
The Reverse God looked at Alex steadily: “So what did you do in this ga?”
“In the first ga, I chose to stop Guy from rebelling and used the Undead Potion to persuade him to stay in our army. I said I would secretly save the dead natives and our soldiers through the Undead Potion.”
“I was still very naive at that ti, and I had unrealistic expectations of my own side.” Alex blinked his eyes weakly, “… I thought that as long as we gave them the final victory, the war would be over.”
“I chose to assist my own army.”
“I tried my best to keep the secret of the potion, but soon, the people I saved found that they were resurrected after death and were not afraid of harm for a period of ti. They reported the secret to both organizations.”
“There are no better soldiers than the undead who have not yet been fully resurrected. Because I am in my own organization, after they learned the effect of the potion, they forced to mass-produce an army of undead.”
“Of course I refused. No matter what kind of torture they used or who threatened , I would never agree. I knew I had the Undead Potion, and I could do it all over again.” Alex paused awkwardly, then continued, “–but I didn’t expect that they would actually find a group of volunteers.”
The Reverse God asked: “What volunteer army?”
Alex’s breathing beca rapid. “They brought a group of 100 new soldiers to , blindfolded them, pointed guns and flathrowers at them, and interrogated . If I didn’t take out the potion to save them, they would shoot them to death and then burn their bodies completely with flathrowers until they were reduced to ashes.”
The Reverse God was startled, as if he suddenly realized sothing. He looked down at the dry wood-like corpses under his feet and said, “Then are these——”
“Yes,” Alex said, “These are the bones of the volunteers.”
Alex closed his eyes. “The first ti, I didn’t agree. The second ti, I gritted my teeth and still didn’t agree.”
“They were shot and burned in front of , ti and again. The youngest volunteer was only 15 years old, with a pair of gray-blue eyes. He rolled on the ground for half an hour after being covered with a black cloth before he stopped struggling. So of these volunteers were burned into black bones that could still be saved, while others were burned into ashes that could never be saved.”
“After countless tortures like this, I finally broke down and took out the potion to save a group of volunteers.”
After saying this, Alex was silent for a very long ti. Both sides of his face were shaking with so intense emotion, and his voice was extrely hoarse:
“After the volunteers stood up from the ground, the senior officers who had been watching nearby actually applauded. The volunteers who had just been rescued by actually took off their black cloths with joy, saluted the senior officers, and happily reported that they had completed their mission.”
Alex’s eyes were red and almost bleeding: “It was only then that I realized that these teenage volunteers all ca voluntarily.”
“Every volunteer soldier who died because of would receive a five-cent martyr dal. The superior officers told these kids that I had a very powerful biological weapon in my hands that could transform the dead into humanoid weapons.”
“But because I’m picky and selfish, I don’t think everyone is qualified to be transford, so I’m unwilling to use this potion on everyone.”
“They told these children, ‘I am going to give you a dangerous mission. I will kill you first, and then let select so people from the dead to have the right to be transford.’”
“Those who are not chosen are the warriors who die for the victory of the war, while those who are chosen are about to beco heroes of the war.”
Alex’s breathing was so fast that his voice was intermittent: “-They told these children that the dead soldiers died because of my cruelty, and the surviving soldiers survived for the war.”
“Every volunteer soldier who was shot dead in front of volunteered to win the war.”
Alex clenched his fists, his expression gradually becoming numb. “They found my weakness. I couldn’t bear to see them die so cruelly in front of . They started to bring volunteers here in batches. Sotis, they even tortured the volunteers to provoke to take out the potion and forced to watch closely.”
“I clearly knew that these volunteers were willing to accept these tortures. For the sake of victory in the war, they could endure any torture.”
“I rescued more and more soldiers, and my own undead army grew stronger and stronger. The war finally broke out.”
Alex exhaled: “But in that war, because of the undead army, in order to save military expenses, only these undead soldiers and cold weapons were used. It did not et the evil God’s requirents for the scale of the war, so I did not lose the ga.”
“The war with the natives was over. It was the sixth day. I was in a trance and thought I was going to win the ga tragically, but sothing unexpected happened.”
Alex gritted his teeth and said, “The ergence of the undead has greatly fuelled the desires of the officers and the governnt. They feel that these undead were simply perfect weapons of war. They secretly approved the start of another war – to plunder all the territories on the other side of the rainforest.”
“On the afternoon of the seventh day, I saw with my own eyes that they first fired a cannonball, which triggered a counterattack from the other side. Then they wrote in the report that the other side attacked us first, thus launching a full-scale war.”
Alex said dryly, “It was a horrific war. I lost the first ga and asked the evil god to let go back to the past seven days.”

[1] 密林边陲 – Refers to the border/frontier of a dense jungle/forest. It can be translated into 2-3 different wordings but I just decided to use the arc’s title instead.
xiu’s notes: after the discord poll, the judge’s na has been changed to the reverse god instead.
