Chapter 81. Just a Plague God

The weather in Kaslania was starting to cool—sumr was nearly over. Fierce winds howled across the northern streets of the city, bending the roadside saplings until they nearly collapsed. Households were shutting their windows and pulling in potted plants to avoid accidents.

The howling wind was like a wild beast rampaging through the skies, roaring in fury and leaving devastation in its wake.

Erika’s silvery-gray hair fluttered in the wind as she and Gladys went out early after enjoying breakfast. Facing the gusts head-on, she enjoyed the feeling of wind hitting her face.

Today, she wore a fitted long-sleeved top embroidered with fine patterns that clearly showed its high cost. Her bottom half was covered by a long skirt with lace trim—equally exquisite.

These were the autumn clothes Gladys had bought her just yesterday.

Letting the wind lift the hem of her skirt, Erika stood alone in the empty street. A mischievous smirk spread across her face, and her red eyes glead with playfulness. The little tiger teeth at the corner of her lips made her expression look particularly sharp.

“Heh, in a ti like this, you have to feel the power of the wind.”

Perhaps her soul had awakened—Erika put her hands on her hips, straightened her small fra, and faced the wind, entertaining herself.

Her soft and cheeky voice rang out:

“When the storm cos~! All shall gather by my side~!”

As she spoke, Erika deliberately glanced around.

After confirming no one was nearby, she spread her little hands wide as if embracing the wind, raising her voice cheerfully.

“You shall beco my power~! Obey my commands~! For I am the eye of the storm, the great Queen of Wind—! Ahahahaha…”

Whoosh~!

Strangely, as she imrsed herself in this performance, the winds in the sky really did grow stronger.

Erika flicked the wind-mussed strands of hair from her ear and smiled even more brightly.

Satisfied, she nodded and prepared to head off to school.

Whoooooosh—!

But just as she took a step forward, the wind suddenly intensified, truly swirling all around her.

Of course, it didn’t follow her command. Instead, the force nearly blew her tiny fra off the ground—and her lacy skirt was lifted high by the gusts.

“Huh?”

Sensing danger, Erika quickly pressed her hands down on her skirt.

Oh no—what the heck, is the wind trying to lift my skirt!?

But before she could steady herself, another gust struck, forcing her back several steps.

“Ehh—aaah!”

Losing her footing, Erika was blown straight into a narrow alley, her body slamming into the ground.

The alley was a dead end with nothing inside. Tall residences lined both sides, and there were no decorations on the walls—just a deserted lane.

Quickly scrambling up from the ground, Erika angrily patted the dust off her skirt, grumbling as she did.

“So annoying, this was a brand new skirt!”

Just then, a faint red light flickered deep within the alley.

“Kehehehe…”

A creepy laugh echoed from within.

In the alley that had been empty monts ago, there now stood a small girl-shaped figure—around Erika’s size.

Seeing her, Erika’s face filled with shock. She instantly recognized the figure, her small mouth dropping open as she stamred.

“I-it’s you… -la…”

“My beloved follower, we et again.”

A sinister voice ca from the figure, who slowly raised her head—revealing a face without any features. Only crimson eyes and a red crescent-moon-shaped smile could be seen.

“Who would’ve thought you also enjoy storm magic? Kehehehe… It’s just a sha—dragon magic cos from blood. Without a wind-attribute Dragon Core Crystal, you’ll never be able to wield wind’s power.”

The sharp voice echoed in her ears.

Erika’s face instantly turned red.

So that performance earlier… this guy saw it!?

Even though this thing was so kind of evil god or whatever, wasn’t this just a textbook case of public humiliation!?

So embarrassing, so embarrassing—!

“I-I just like it! What’s it to you!?”

Turning her head defiantly, Erika quickly shook it.

Don’t think about it, don’t think about it—this guy can read your mind. Think about nothing!

“Kehehehe…”

The laughter rang out again as ladin slowly approached her.

“No matter, my beloved follower. If you like the power of wind, I can grant you the power of wind.”

“Really?” Erika blinked her big eyes.

“You must first do sothing for .”

ladin’s voice turned low. “It’s been so ti since you beca my follower. Yet your heart shows no concern at all about finding the Artifact for .”

“You said you didn’t even know where the artifact was…”

…Oh, right. She’d almost forgotten about that. Erika tried to defend herself.

“If you don’t know where it is, how can I help you find it?”

“Kehehehe, now I know.”

ladin extended a hand, pointing at Erika’s shoulder.

“Listen well—I can appear anywhere, anyti. I ca here to remind you: there is an Artifact in this city.”

“You an, in the Imperial Capital?”

“Correct.”

“Where exactly?”

“No idea.”

…Seriously!?

Erika’s eyes flattened in exasperation. Hands on her hips, she snapped:

“Listen, the Imperial Capital’s huge, okay!? If you don’t know where it is, how am I supposed to find it? It’s not like I’m the emperor—I can’t order people to look for it. Searching alone is exhausting, okay?”

“No matter.”

The grotesque face stared at her as ladin said flatly, “You just need to keep living in this city. When you get close to the Artifact, the mark of my follower on your shoulder will tell you.”

Follower mark? Hearing that, Erika rembered the crescent-shaped symbol ladin had once left on her shoulder—but it had since disappeared.

She subconsciously rubbed her shoulder.

“How… will it tell ?” she asked quietly.

“You’ll know when the ti cos. Kehehehe…”

As he laughed eerily, ladin leaned against the wall with a relaxed posture.

“There are many Artifacts in this world. The one I need is the one that sealed . I don’t yet know whether the Artifact in this city is the one that sealed , but I’m not letting any opportunity slip by. Of course, my beloved follower—if you help obtain the Artifact, I will grant you a reward beyond your imagination. After all, I am the almighty God…Kehehehehe…”

As his voice faded, ladin’s figure turned into a streak of red light and vanished.

Leaving Erika alone in the empty alley.

After he left, Erika instinctively looked down at her now-filthy skirt, and her expression soured again.

Still patting at her skirt with her small hands, Erika grumbled bitterly.

“Almighty god, my foot… You’re just a plague god!”
