After chatting a bit longer with Nilo and Niko, sisters whose figures, presence, and looks could only be described as flawless, Li De returned to his manor, leaving behind Nilo’s sowhat reluctant gaze.
The Dawn Order still needed ti to grow stronger, and based on Dawn City’s current population base, it couldn’t yet support an overly large operation.
Overall, however, the Dawn Order’s current developnt was progressing well and eting his expectations, so he wouldn’t intervene rashly.
Plus, the little girl Niko had earned his approval. Although she was still sowhat naive in her thinking, she was brimming with spirit. With proper training, her future was limitless.
Most importantly, she had the status of being Nilo’s younger sister. As for Li De’s regard for his one and only Holy Priest, there was no need to even elaborate. Whether for public or private reasons, nurturing Niko was entirely justified.
The next day at noon, after a good night’s rest and feeling refreshed, Li De arrived at City Hall.
“Harrison, once the wheat is harvested, the focus of work in Dawn City must shift to preparing for the planting of winter wheat.
Also, the Agriculture Departnt must promote the use of fertilizer. This directly affects future farmland productivity and must be taken seriously.”
Back in City Hall, Li De summoned Harrison and repeated his instructions.
Glory's agricultural philosophy was extrely outdated, even the concept of fertilizer was still vague.
Farmland here required a fallow period after two years of planting. Otherwise, the soil’s nutrients would deplete and the next year’s yield would plumt to dreadful levels.
Li De, of course, wouldn’t allow such backward practices to continue. He had copied over a great deal of advanced agricultural knowledge from Earth and had already had the Agriculture Departnt print manuals and begin farr training.
In fact, when it ca to farming, he genuinely enjoyed it thanks to his natural affinity for it. Watching golden wheat grow in the fields gave him a strong sense of accomplishnt.
“Chieftain, I’ve already arranged for the Agriculture Departnt to begin training. It’s estimated that all the wheat will be harvested in three days.”
“Very good. Make sure preparations for winter wheat planting begin early. Once the harvest is complete, have the Agriculture Departnt organize the follow-up work.”
On Earth, most wheat in China was grown once per year and only yielded a single harvest.
But things were different in the world of Glory. The climate and temperature differed from Earth’s, and there was also the presence of magical forces. So planting two seasons of wheat a year was perfectly normal here.
Spring wheat was sown in early May and harvested in early September. Winter wheat was sown in early October and harvested by the end of April the following year.
This year, thanks to Li De’s orders, the planting had begun over a month early, so the harvest was already underway by mid-July.
This created a two-month window of free ti.
“Also, have the Agriculture Departnt investigate what other crops besides wheat we can grow as staple foods. The food structure in Dawn City is far too one-dinsional.”
Glory's environnt was vastly different from Earth’s. What was edible on Earth might be toxic here.
So Li De didn’t dare rely solely on Earth’s experience. The only option was to have experienced local farrs conduct field experints.
“Yes, Chieftain.”
“Make sure these tasks are carried out imdiately, there’s no ti to wait.
Also, have the Dawn Mage Tower use magic to study wheat seeds to see if they can be improved to increase yields.”
As Li De spoke, his eyes lit up and his mind expanded further.
“We can even have the Agriculture Departnt lead the formation of a special research team focused on increasing the yield of wheat or other grains using magic.
This must be made a priority project within the Dawn Mage Tower, and City Hall can allocate substantial funding to support it.”
At that mont, Li De thought of Earth’s research labs.
Back on Earth, when enterprises or governnts needed results but lacked their own research capacity, they would fund labs to take on projects. Once results were achieved, both sides would benefit.
Although the Dawn Mage Tower hadn’t yet reached the level of a research lab, that didn’t stop him from setting up such a frawork now.
In the future, it wouldn’t be just about food, equipnt, weapons, magic scrolls, magic arrays, and other high-end technologies could also be researched by specialized magical teams under the Mage Tower.
Of course, to reach the results he wanted, the Dawn Mage Tower would need at least a thousand Formal Mages, plus more than ten Level 15 Grand Mages as a foundation.
That would have to remain a future goal for now.
“In addition, spread my command: anyone who successfully discovers a way to increase grain production will be honored in a ceremony at Dawn Square.”
Li De had always prioritized the importance of food. He placed it on par with military developnt. If it ant resolving this major concern, paying so price was entirely acceptable.
He also wanted to test whether this concept of his could work, whether the collective wisdom of a city could produce the outco he envisioned.
Hearing Li De’s words, Harrison imdiately perked up.
dals of honor.
This is the highest symbol of honor in Dawn City.
Until now, only the Twelve Heroes of Dawn, winners of the Hero Selection Tournant, had ever received this honor.
Even the Bloodline Descendants who died in battle only received a posthumous award ceremony in the end.
Receiving a dal was the embodint of glory.
Every hero who earned this honor would be recorded on the Wall of Honor at Dawn Square, where all the citizens of Dawn City would sing their praises.
It was a temptation no one could resist.
Even within the vampire Bloodline itself, this was an honor one could boast about for a lifeti.
“Chieftain, I’m certain the mbers of the Mage Tower will go wild once they hear this,” Harrison added, visibly excited himself.
“Mm. Go handle it. Tomorrow I need to make a trip back to the Crimson Mage Tower.
And rember what I said: if anyone claiming to be an adventurer from another Plane shows up, especially if they behave oddly, report to imdiately,” Li De reminded again, still uneasy.
He didn’t want players appearing in Dawn City this soon. It would disrupt his carefully planned covert developnt, and the drawbacks would outweigh any benefits.
“As you wish.”
