Chapter 193: Chapter 194 Ho Chapter 193: Chapter 194 Ho Qiao Suisui woke up again, the world outside her window had turned pitch black.

Before closing her eyes, she had silently wished to open them and find herself back at Imperial Court. Yet, as she sat up in bed and stared blankly at the familiar settings of her room, reality told her it had all been but a dream. All that remained was a sudden, endless feeling of loneliness.

She opened the door to the bathroom and splashed her face with cold water, trying to wake herself up.

Gazing at her bare face in the mirror, her skin was delicate and fair, her features delicate; everything was unchanged, but the expression in her eyes and her deanor were drastically different from her forr self.

The previously timid and cautious Qiao Suisui seed to have grown up in an instant. Her gaze was bright and resolute, her brow relaxed and confident, and her expression was no longer one of appeasent, but one of calmness after enduring many trials.

She wiped her face with a towel, returned to her room, and picked up her phone only to discover there were thirteen missed calls.

Ten of those were from Mother Qiao, probably to scold her. She had deliberately not ntioned that she had already cancelled her dinner with Guan Weizhi, leaving them to find out the hard way; by now, the three of them should be grumbling on their way.

Another miss ca from Ji Ming, which she chose to ignore.

There were also two calls from Guan Weizhi.

She opened WeChat and saw that about half an hour ago Guan Weizhi had replied to her ssage.

[Just finished class.]

[Are you at school or in the dorm? Do you need to go to the hospital?]

She replied “I’m fine,” and was about to put down her phone when it imdiately began to ring.

“Hello, Teacher Guan?”

“Are you sick?”

Guan Weizhi’s voice was very cold, his tone impassive, giving the impression of absolute rationality.

Qiao Suisui remained silent for two seconds. Previously, she would have racked her brain for various excuses and then used poor acting to cover up her lies, but now she rely considered for a mont before choosing to be straightforward.

“My father’s company is facing so difficulties. My parents learned that I was dining with you and saw it as an opportunity to persuade you to invest in his company.”

There was silence on the other end for a long while, so long that Qiao Suisui thought he might be angry before Guan Weizhi finally spoke, his first question being, “What sector, what’s the na of the company?”

Qiao Suisui was startled, not expecting him to actually ask, she said, “That’s not what I ant, Teacher Guan. I didn’t want my family to trouble you, so I cancelled tonight’s dinner. The purpose of this al was to thank you for helping secure an internship spot.”

“Hmm, I understand. Keep that al of yours,” Guan Weizhi’s voice was deep and aloof, every sentence asured, clearly a sign of good upbringing, “Send your dad’s company na anyway. You think too highly of ; I may not be able to help.”

Qiao Suisui expressed her thanks, and Guan Weizhi then inquired about her internship and on-campus arrangents for the coming week, which she answered honestly.

“Okay, then. I’ll see you at school, thank you, Teacher Guan.”

She was waiting for him to hang up on the other end, but she didn’t hear the sound of disconnection. Instead, she suddenly heard Guan Weizhi call her full na.

“Qiao Suisui.”

“Ah?” she reflexively responded with so nervousness.

“I told you last ti, don’t use honorifics with .”

Qiao Suisui was stunned, uttering ‘oh’ twice and wanting to say so pleasantries, but the person on the other end simply ended the call crisply.

She looked at the phone, confused.

At nine in the evening, the family of three drove back from the city center. Upon entering, Mother Qiao rushed to Qiao Suisui’s door and loudly banged on it. Qiao Jiming followed her and tried to stop her, but she glared at him. Father Qiao sighed, shook his head, and went back to his room.

“Are you doing this on purpose? Will you be happy when you’ve torn this family apart? Your Uncle Qiao might not be capable, but he’s still many tis better than your biological father. Since you carry the Qiao surna, he is your father. You just secretly rejoice seeing his company close to shutting down. Is there anyone as selfish as you?”

Mother Qiao was about to bang on the door again when it opened from the inside.

Qiao Suisui looked calmly at the woman across from her. She had called her ‘mother’ for so many years and sotis really wanted to ask if she truly was her biological mother. Her mories of her childhood were blurry, but she roughly knew what had happened.

Her biological father was missing in action, and her mother, a single woman, struggled to raise two children. Later, she married Father Qiao, who changed their surnas and registered them, allowing them to go to school.

Over the years, their marital life had been rely coping. Father Qiao was virtually invisible, never involving himself in family conflicts. If money could solve a problem, he was happy to contribute, but not manpower, let alone any emotional support.

He was neither like a father nor like a husband, nor did he resemble the backbone of this family.

Qiao Suisui didn’t even know how to address him, so she rarely spoke to him. This man, outwardly simple but shrewd, never really spread any fatherly affection beyond acting in front of Mother Qiao at the beginning by buying clothes and toys for Qiao Suisui and Qiao Jiming, after which there hadn’t been much other care.

Therefore, from any angle, Qiao Suisui wouldn’t bother Guan Weizhi because of his issues, as it wasn’t worth it. That’s why she never ntioned the company’s na after hanging up the phone.

Qiao Suisui watched as Mother Qiao continued to incessantly bla all problems on her and rely interrupted her calmly asking, “Before today, you didn’t know I knew Guan Weizhi. Could this company have continued operating then?”

Mother Qiao was speechless.

She continued, “If you really think Guan Weizhi is your hope to save the company, then it’s a hope provided by . But I don’t understand. Now, just because a dinner didn’t happen, it seems like it’s my fault the company is failing. With this kind of mindset, you really shouldn’t be in business.”

“You! How dare you talk back?” Mother Qiao’s face turned red, pointing at Qiao Suisui’s nose, normally eloquent, but now so angry she couldn’t speak.

Qiao Jiming stood by, surprise showing in his eyes.

Qiao Suisui scoffed, “If you want to et Guan Weizhi, go arrange it yourself. Mom, since you look down on so much, don’t expect anything from .”

Before she turned to close the door, she said coldly, “I will arrange to board at school from tomorrow. Afterward, everyone can live in peace.”

‘Bang—’

The door slamd shut.

Mother Qiao’s face turned from red to black, and then from black to white.

She trembled with anger, her lower lip quivering, gasping for breath.

Qiao Jiming helped her to the sofa to sit down and catch her breath, whispering, “I will talk to her tomorrow. The conditions at school are not as good as at ho; she still…”

“Talk her out of what? Let her leave!” Mother Qiao regained her anger, pointing at Qiao Suisui’s door and said loudly, “She thinks she’s grown wings. Who supported her through college? If she can, she should never co back!”

Qiao Jiming frowned, decided not to argue with Mother Qiao, and turned his head to look at the firmly shut door, a look of deep puzzlent flashing in his eyes.
