Opportunity

Chen Ling didn't know how long he had waited in the church.

Outside the window, the setting sun gradually sank, and darkness once again swallowed the earth. When the last ray of light disappeared behind the stained glass windows, in the gloomy church, a burst of hungry stomach rumbling sounded from Chen Ling's stomach...

Chen Ling rubbed his stomach, his eyes sowhat tired.

He got up from the pew and walked out the door of the prayer room. At the sa ti, Lou Yu's voice rang out again:

"Not waiting anymore?"

Ti passed, and night fell. Lou Yu was still in that posture, sitting in the very front row of the church pews. The magnificent cross hung in the air in front of him, and his figure was already shrouded in shadows...

"He seems to not want to see ." Chen Ling shook his head.

"I'll just have soone pass on this letter... Anyway, tomorrow I'll write a new one. As long as he doesn't give an explanation, I'll write a letter every day and then co here to find him."

After speaking, Chen Ling walked out without looking back.

Lou Yu turned his head to glance at him, then withdrew his gaze. As the doors of the prayer room slowly closed, dead silence and darkness gradually swallowed everything. Only a sculpture-like figure in black robes remained, sitting under the cross, silent.

...

"King, he went back."

In another room, Chi Tong pushed open the door and spoke respectfully.

A figure wearing a British Overcoat was casually leaning against a black grand piano. His gaze passed through the window, leisurely staring at the haze shrouding the Wuji Domain... Both moonlight and starlight were concealed by that layer of haze, like a massive hand covering the sky, suspended above the Wuji Domain.

"I saw." The Silver King picked up the black coffee on the piano stand and took a light sip.

"Have you been paying attention to him all day today?"

"He is a World-Ending Calamity Fusionist after all. It never hurts to be a little careful."

"Then do I still need to report to you?"

"No need to say what he did, just get straight to the conclusion."

"Yes." Chi Tong looked at the record sheet in his hand and said seriously,

"According to our Observation, his behavior today has distinctly different from before. Last night at the banquet, he ate the cilantro along with his food, but today he picked out all the cilantro before binge-eating; besides that, his deanor and tone have also changed significantly. He started sunbathing, watering flowers, and was even diligent enough to clean his room himself, as if treating that room like his own ho."

The Silver King nodded slightly. "Give the opinion letter he wrote."

Chi Tong respectfully handed over the letter. The Silver King glanced over it, and a satisfied smile surfaced on his face:

"It seems the Calamity inside his body doesn't care whether Chen Ling's mories belong to him or not... Or rather, as long as Chen Ling doesn't face a life-and-death crisis, it won't intervene."

"So, exactly whose mory did you swap for him?" Chi Tong couldn't help but ask.

"It was sent over from the Detention Center. An Ordinary Person from a civilian resistance group, arrested for organizing workers to march in the streets."

"Civilian resistance group..." Chi Tong was sowhat confused. "Why did you use this person's mory to replace his? Is there anything special about his past?"

The Silver King smiled slightly,

"Very soon, you will know."

The Silver King casually put down the coffee, turned around, and walked out of the room. The hem of his British Overcoat gradually disappeared into the darkness. "Make the arrangents, have him co see tomorrow."

"Yes."

...

The next day.

Chen Ling put down the washbasin-sized rice bowl in his hand and spoke in astonishnt:

"What did you say? The Silver King wants to see ??"

"Correct." Chi Tong smiled. "After the King returned yesterday, he read your opinion letter and said he intends to have a detailed chat with you."

"No problem!" Chen Ling imdiately agreed. "When? Now?"

"Anyti is fine, the King doesn't seem to have anything to do today."

"Then right now!"

Chen Ling couldn't wait any longer. He got up and walked out, while extending his hand and heavily patting Chi Tong's shoulder twice. "Thank you, Chi Tong! I knew you would definitely speak up for ."

Chi Tong: ?

Chi Tong gave Chen Ling a weird look, hesitated for a mont, and still couldn't help but ask:

"In your mory... who am I?"

"What are you talking about?" Chen Ling looked at him in confusion. "We are brothers! Back then in the workshop, I slept in the bunk above you... Have you forgotten? Back when you were chasing after Xiao Ran, that great beauty from the workshop next door, I even helped you!"

Chi Tong's mouth twitched slightly, thinking to himself that his persona with Chen Ling was actually this close. The corners of his mouth uncontrollably curled up,

"Haha, I rember, Xiao Ran!"

"Although you are working for the Silver Governnt now, I believe you must have your own difficulties... Eh, what difficulties did you have again?"

"This... this is a bit complicated... Let's not talk about this for now. The King is still waiting for you in the room."

"Alright."

Chi Tong brought Chen Ling to the door, and the latter eagerly pushed open the door and walked in quickly.

The Silver King was currently sitting on an ancient stone chair. Seeing Chen Ling arrive, he put down the paper in his hand, smiled, and slowly stood up...

"How is it? Are you getting used to living here these past two days?"

"It's alright." Chen Ling wasn't interested in talking nonsense with the Silver King and got straight to the point. "What's the matter for you to seek out?"

"I read your opinion letter from yesterday, and I feel what you said makes so sense." The Silver King spoke leisurely. "Sustainable developnt is indeed an important policy. After Lord Wuji successively sacrificed two major districts, our population is already not large. We still need to prioritize everyone's health..."

Chen Ling froze for a mont, and then a look of joy surfaced in his eyes. He imdiately answered:

"Yes, if this continues, we will..."

"But before that, there is another problem." The Silver King suddenly changed the subject.

"What problem?"

"Among the populace, there are bad people." The Silver King's expression was sowhat helpless. "A few days ago, we were hunting down a Dusk Society mber hiding in the Wuji Domain, but he seriously injured so of our n and escaped... Judging by his traces, he should be hiding near the Ninth District Manufacturing Factory right now."

Hearing the words 'Dusk Society mber', Chen Ling's pupils contracted slightly.

"I've read your resu, Mister Chen." The Silver King rested his head on one hand and spoke faintly. "In your early years, your younger brother Xiao Yu was killed by a Dusk Society mber. I don't think I need to tell you what kind of demons they are..."

"Dusk Society..." Chen Ling gritted his teeth and spoke. "How could they be there?"

"I don't know, we have sent people to investigate too. But if I rember correctly, you should be quite familiar with that place."

"Yes, I used to work there."

"Very good..." The corners of the Silver King's mouth curled up slightly,

"Now, I'll give you an Opportunity... go find that Dusk Society mber, and then, kill him with your own hands."
