Doctor Jia

"Doctor Jia, I brought my Mother over, please take a look at her."

After Chen Ling's wheelchair arrived behind the curtain, he heard a respectful voice ring out. He didn't go out imdiately, but waited quietly behind the curtain, looking forward through the gap.

The one speaking was an ordinary young man wearing a cotton coat. He hunched over, carrying a woman in her fifties on his back. They were covered in dust, and there were even a few patches on the cuffs of his clothes.

"Mhm, put her down." Doctor Jia waved his hand casually.

When the young man placed his Mother on a chair in the Clinic, Doctor Jia stepped forward, touched her forehead, and then leaned into her ear and asked loudly:

"Auntie, where do you feel unwell??"

The young man beside him froze, hesitated for a mont, but still spoke:

"Uh... Doctor Jia, my mom is only sick, not hard of hearing, and she isn't that old..."

"Do I need you to remind ?" Doctor Jia glanced at him, and the latter imdiately shut up and said no more.

"These past few days... cough cough cough... I've been coughing constantly, I can't sleep at night, my whole body feels cold... My heart feels like it's suffocating in a drum, and I feel like I can't catch my breath..."

"Is there blood when you cough?"

"There is... It's yellowish-black when I wake up in the morning, and normally it's red."

"How long has it been?"

"It's already been over twenty days... The coughing up blood only started in the last few days." The auntie tremblingly reached out her hands, wanting to grab Doctor Jia's hands, as if grasping for a life-saving straw,

"Doctor Jia... Doctor Jia! Is this illness of mine contagious... A-Qiang has been taking care of recently, and I'm afraid he might have caught it from too... My youngest son was born with a visual impairnt, and with sick like this, A-Qiang is now the only pillar of our family... I absolutely cannot infect A-Qiang!!"

The instant the auntie's hands were about to touch Doctor Jia, the latter retracted his hands with a swish. He pinched the mask on his face forcefully with his index and middle fingers, making it fit even more seamlessly...

Then he sighed:

"As for this being contagious, it's really hard to say... There are so many infectious diseases right now, and the ways they spread are all different."

"It is said that in the past, our dical level could still analyze the characteristics of these viruses, develop specific drugs, and take so effective precautions... but now... sigh."

A-Qiang to the side beca sowhat anxious, unable to resist speaking:

"Doctor Jia, how about you prescribe so more antibiotics? We've already finished the previous dicine, and we can't buy it anywhere else outside now... I've asked around these past few days, and only you have antibiotics here."

"Antibiotics, I do indeed have so." Doctor Jia slowly stood up, placing his hands behind his back,

"Moreover, they are so scarce banned drugs. Their efficacy is ten tis that of ordinary antibiotics, and they take effect faster. After your Mother takes them, it should alleviate her symptoms a lot..."

Hearing this, the light of hope surfaced in the eyes of A-Qiang and his Mother. A-Qiang almost knelt down to Doctor Jia.

"Doctor Jia, I beg you to save my Mother!!"

"But as for this dicine... it's relatively scarce. I originally planned to keep it for myself..."

"I understand! I understand!" A-Qiang picked up the basket beside him and uncovered the white cloth wrapped tightly on top. Several pieces of dark yellow Bread were exposed to the air. "This is our family's last stock... Doctor Jia, see if this is enough?"

Doctor Jia turned his head, and upon seeing those few pieces of dirty Bread in the basket, his brows furrowed slightly.

He snorted coldly:

"What do I want these few pieces of broken Bread for? Take it back! Do you not have anything valuable on you??"

A-Qiang froze. He subconsciously felt around his body, but felt absolutely nothing... A trace of inner conflict flashed through the woman's eyes, but she still reluctantly took off a jade bracelet from her wrist, holding it with both hands and handing it to Doctor Jia.

"Doctor Jia, this is the dowry from when I got married back then... Look, is this enough?" Her voice was incredibly hoarse.

Doctor Jia narrowed his eyes, took the jade bracelet and weighed it in his hand, then tucked it back into his pocket.

"Mhm, it will do."

After saying this, he took out a ball of crumpled newspaper from another pocket.

As he peeled open the newspaper bit by bit, several irregular pill-like things appeared in the eyes of A-Qiang and his Mother. He took out one of them and placed it in A-Qiang's hand.

"Go, pour so water, and have your Mother take one pill right now... As for the rest, two pills a day, don't take more, understand?"

"The efficacy of this dicine of mine is very powerful. After taking it, she will definitely feel a bit better."

"Okay! Okay!!"

A-Qiang excitedly took the dicine, directly poured a cup of water, and served his Mother to drink it down. Then he solemnly folded the newspaper containing the other pills and kept it close to his chest for safekeeping.

"Thank you, Doctor Jia!"

"No need to thank , you guys head back first, don't let the auntie catch a cold."

A-Qiang put his Mother back on his back, thanked Doctor Jia profusely again, and only then picked up that basket of Bread and pushed the door to leave.

Just as Doctor Jia was preparing to go back to his room to rest, he turned around and saw a figure sitting in a wheelchair silently appear behind him like a phantom.

Doctor Jia was clearly startled. After seeing clearly that it was Chen Ling, he patted his chest and let out a long sigh of relief:

"It's you... How co there's no sound at all pushing a wheelchair? When did you wake up?"

"Just now." Chen Ling smiled slightly.

"You are Doctor Jia, right? Thank you for saving ."

Doctor Jia also relaxed. He sat down on a chair to the side and spoke unhurriedly, "You really should thank ... Without , you would probably have been cremated by now."

Chen Ling nodded slightly: "Does Doctor Jia like gold, silver, and jewelry?"

Doctor Jia froze for a mont. He cast a suspicious glance at Chen Ling in the wheelchair, and after hesitating for a mont, nodded:

"Yeah, what's wrong?"

"Then let this Gold Brick serve as my thank you gift."

With a flick of Chen Ling's cuff, a heavy Gold Brick traced a beautiful parabola in the air and landed in Doctor Jia's hands...

Doctor Jia originally didn't clearly see what it was. By the ti he truly held a Gold Brick in his hands, his jaw almost dropped in shock... A Gold Brick? It was actually really a Gold Brick?

Was it his illusion, why did the size of this Gold Brick look sowhat similar to the bricks outside his Clinic?

Regardless, this was Doctor Jia's first ti seeing such a large piece of gold. He stared blankly at Chen Ling in the wheelchair, unable to speak for a mont.

"I'll be borrowing this wheelchair of yours for now... No problem, right?" Chen Ling took the initiative to speak.

"No, no problem."

"Don't tell outsiders that you've seen , nor reveal anything about this Gold Brick... Unless, you want to invite trouble." Chen Ling didn't seem to plan on staying here for long. He pushed the wheelchair straight to the Clinic door, then as if rembering sothing, turned to look at him,

"Right, do you know which direction the Jinghong Theater is?"
