"Wang Ye, don’t fire at will; they’re a multinational force! Besides, these pilgrims have only been bewitched by the Pseudo-God, God knows if they’ve been transford—a dead one is a dead one," Leng Kai said as he drove.
"We’ll see what their attitude toward us is," Wang Ye responded.
Wang Mingxue assembled her rifle but didn’t have ti to calibrate the 6x scope. She could only make do with the iron sights for now, put on her cap, set the safety, and laid her hand on her pistol holster.
The military vehicles were quickly catching up to them, and moreover, the leading truck deliberately slowed down a beat, grazing the rear of their pickup.
Leng Kai knew they were going to use tactical movents to force them to stop, so he said, "Take out the docunts; I’m going to slow down."
"You’d better know what you’re doing," Wang Mingxue remarked.
Leng Kai let off the gas, pressed the brake button on the steering wheel, and the electric pickup began to slow down. He rolled down the window and gestured toward the truck.
The other side also rolled down the window, indeed, soldiers of the multinational force in desert camouflage.
The soldier gestured, shouting, "Stop! Stop!"
Leng Kai wasn’t foolish enough to actually stop the vehicle but also shouted, "We are from the Council!"
"What?!" the soldier yelled.
"We are the Council Army! We have docunts!" Leng Kai asserted.
The soldier froze for a mont, then, after a few glances, began conferring with his fellow passenger.
"Look, they know we are from the Council; they won’t act rashly," Leng Kai said.
"You’re thinking too much... Look at the rearview mirror," Wang Ye said.
Leng Kai looked and saw a truck about ten ters behind them; a soldier hauled a rocket launcher, half his body sticking out, preparing to aim.
At this mont, another truck on the other side of the pickup caught up, and the three vehicles were now sandwiching Leng Kai’s pickup from three directions.
"We are from the Council! Didn’t you understand?" Wang Mingxue shouted toward the truck outside the window.
The soldier in the passenger seat leered out, acting like a lecher, slapping the door while cackling madly, "Woman! A woman!! There’s a woman in the pickup!!! Hahaha!"
"Bang, bang, bang!"
Gunfire reached Wang Mingxue’s ears. She turned to see Wang Ye had shattered the rear window glass and fired a three-round burst at the chasing truck. The soldier holding the rocket launcher trembled, fell to the sandy ground clutching the rocket launcher, and then got run over by the rear wheels of the truck, which bounced slightly as if it had run over a rock.
"Fire! Fire!!!" soldiers on the opposite truck yelled, half their bodies extending from the cargo bed, firing ICR rifles at the pickup.
"Damn!" Leng Kai cursed, yanking the steering wheel to ram to the right.
With a thud, the pickup collided with the truck, while its other side was battered by bullets pinging against it.
He imdiately slowed down, and the side mirror got scraped off. Their pickup wasn’t an armored vehicle by any ans, so rifle bullets could easily penetrate the side doors.
Wang Mingxue quickly reclined her seat, lay down, and shifted to the back seat, almost crushing Wang Ye, who said, "You’re squashing ."
"Pull your legs in!" Wang Mingxue flipped over and stuck her rifle out the rear window, blindly firing toward the truck on the other side.
By then, Leng Kai had swerved to the other side of the right-hand truck, and the one behind them had already changed lanes due to Wang Ye’s shooting. At the very least, they had escaped the fate of being trapped.
"There are more of them than us; stopping now ans certain death!" Wang Mingxue declared.
"Doesn’t need saying!" Leng Kai said.
Then, the wheel burst, and the pickup truck sank a bit toward the rear left.
Wang Ye swapped out his magazine, pulling three full ones from his bag and sliding one into the magazine well, pulling back the bolt.
"These fucking bastards don’t care whether we’re pilgrims or not. Once you’re in this place, anything goes wrong, they can bla ’Him’. You heard them just now—it’s all about fucking won!" Wang Ye said.
"Damn, those are three truck loads of big-headed soldiers! Too many want a go at !" Wang Mingxue complained.
"Don’t worry, with here, I won’t let anyone fuck you," replied Leng Kai, glancing back.
"Watch the road! The road!" Wang Mingxue exclaid in a panic.
Wang Ye emptied another magazine and reloaded, grabbing his backpack to search for grenades.
"We can’t penetrate their armor! The military trucks are bulletproof, and so are their windows!" Wang Mingxue realized as well.
Wang Ye pulled the pin off the grenade, counted to four, and threw it toward the truck behind them.
The grenade exploded under the chassis of the truck, sparks flying, but it didn’t slow the truck at all. The truck’s undercarriage was bombproof, and standard fragntation grenades were useless against it.
Their pickup truck’s rear wheel had burst. The damaged tire ran forcibly for so ti before flying off. The truck was briefly airborne, then its bare rim hit the red sandy terrain, throwing sparks as it skidded.
"We’re losing speed!" Wang Mingxue said.
"I know, we’re down a wheel!" Leng Kai said.
Suddenly, the truck on the right accelerated and slamd into them. Leveraging its weight, the smaller pickup shuddered wildly from the impact. It took Leng Kai’s utmost effort to regain control.
anwhile, another truck overtook them and positioned itself ahead. About twenty soldiers in the cargo area raised their guns, preparing to fire at the cab.
Leng Kai instinctively raised his hand to shield himself.
Just then, a golden beam of light descended from the sky, enveloping the truck ahead.
Next, a teorite smashed down.
The truck’s front end buried into the soil. Then, the whole vehicle flipped over. The soldiers were tossed from the cargo hold like fried rice being flipped by a street vendor, flying into the air before plunging into the earth.
Unable to swerve in ti, the wheels of Leng Kai’s truck ran over a couple of the unlucky ones. He then made a sharp turn, bringing the vehicle to a halt.
The three of them quickly got out, took rifles, and took cover behind the truck. They then saw more silver-gray teorites... No, not teorites, but iron-gray figures falling from the sky.
Golden beams burst from a golden source above, and these people, curled up, erged from the light and plumted down.
The truck ahead tried to flee but was capsized by the falling figures.
Leng Kai heard continuous thudding impacts around him. Holding his breath, he peeked from behind the hood toward the distance.
Sparse gunfire ca from a few hundred ters away as he saw the figures rise—towering, iron-gray, muscular, bald n—standing much taller than the soldiers, roughly 3 ters tall by his estimate.
They were unphased by bullets, advancing into gunfire and effortlessly flinging soldiers 20 ters away with a swipe of their hands.
"Pseudo-God’s soldiers?" Wang Ye asked.
"Don’t shoot, Wang Ye, for the love of God, don’t shoot this ti," Leng Kai said.
