Zhao Ling pulled the car up in front of those n, and even through the windshield, their dejected faces were clearly visible.
Both exited the car, and at this mont, Wei Tianyang noticed that Zhao Ling’s tone and deanor had completely changed; she had beco cruel and cold, exuding an aura that instilled fear in those around her.
The n kneeling on the ground didn’t dare to look at her, heads bowed as if even breathing was a sin in her presence.
The suited n around her all patted their sleeves and then lowered their heads.
But Zhao Ling raised her hand to stop them, saying, "Forget it."
Then, surveying the kneeling n, she asked, "Are all the people here?"
A suited man approached Zhao Ling and respectfully said, "Everyone is here."
"So few?" Zhao Ling looked displeased.
"Only these five n are the casino owners and shareholders; another died of cancer..." the suited man said nervously.
"What am I hearing... is this how Elder Gu’s people handle things?" Zhao Ling grew even more displeased.
The suited man didn’t speak, instead dropping to his knees with a thud.
"Get up, have so dignity," Zhao Ling shook her head.
The suited man didn’t dare get up, pleading, "Please... forgive ..."
Wei Tianyang stood by, silent.
Zhao Ling’s eyes shone nacingly as she turned toward the five kneeling n and scolded, "When will this cycle of vengeance end... That’s why you should uproot the problem! Why didn’t you arrest everyone in the casino? What’s the use of capturing just the five leaders?"
"...It’s been sixteen years... The staff turnover in the casino is very high... Most people are no longer connected to what happened back then..." the suited man answered trembling.
"Are you teaching how to do my job? Running an illegal casino, breaking the law! Everyone involved should be held accountable, understand?" Zhao Ling laughed.
Hearing this, the suited man rapidly bowed his head three tis and exclaid, "Elder Gu has been good to !!! It’s who ssed it up!!! I am willing to accept the punishnt!!!"
"What position do you hold?" Zhao Ling disdainfully asked.
"I... I am a senior inspector for the Dragon Court Special Affairs Bureau..." the suited man said from the ground, nervous.
"Starting tomorrow, report to the Qingchuan County Civil Affairs Departnt, start working from street patrols," Zhao Ling ordered.
"Yes!!! Sob sob sob..." the suited man said loudly.
Wei Tianyang didn’t understand Yin Country’s bureaucratic system, but being demoted from a senior inspector at whatever bureau to a county must be quite the downfall, right?
"Get up, don’t block the way," Zhao Ling said.
The suited man quickly stood up and rejoined his comrades, who all looked at him with relieved expressions.
Zhao Ling pulled out a large silver handgun from sowhere, loaded it, and handed the handle to Wei Tianyang.
"Do what you want to do, Wei Tianyang. Don’t say Yin Country has treated you poorly," Zhao Ling said with a smile.
Wei Tianyang took the gun but didn’t plan on using it; he looked at the five kneeling n.
These people looked even more decrepit than in the photos, with belly-sized stomachs, thick necks adorned with gold chains, shaved heads, and faces full of fierce flesh, appearing extrely ferocious just by their looks.
But at this mont, they were as ek as kittens not yet weaned, trembling in fear as they knelt together.
"You destroyed my family, forced my parents to flee abroad, yet you have been able to live in Fengrao City, safe and wealthy until today. That doesn’t seem fair," Wei Tianyang said.
The five people didn’t dare to respond; they just trembled as they knelt.
"Get on with it, don’t waste words on scum," Zhao Ling said.
Wei Tianyang didn’t use a gun; his right hand transford into a seven-ter-long Bone Knife and with a gentle swing, he sliced the five n into a ssy heap of flesh and bones, with intestines and scraps stuck between his fingers, slimy, warm, and nauseating.
The n in suits present could hardly bear to watch; it was the first ti they had seen a human body so arbitrarily dismbered. So felt nauseous and repeatedly turned away.
Zhao Ling, however, seed sowhat excited, a cruel smile spreading across her face, showing great approval of Wei Tianyang.
"Not bad, very decisive and straightforward," she complinted. Then, she pulled out a silk handkerchief from her jacket pocket and handed it to Wei Tianyang.
After Wei Tianyang’s hand returned to normal, it had been soaked red with blood. He took the handkerchief and wiped it carelessly, feeling only the cold. The blood quickly coagulated, forming a thin scab on the skin.
The two got back into the car, Zhao Ling started the vehicle and headed toward the highway tollgate.
"Rest well when we get back. I’ll handle the following matters. The staff at the casino won’t survive tonight," she said softly to Wei Tianyang.
"Your power is quite substantial. I heard the elders at the three Institutes say that they are beneath only the Emperor, above tens of thousands," Wei Tianyang said.
"They’re not wrong," Zhao Ling laughed.
"I feel like you rank even higher than them," Wei Tianyang shook his head.
"I am close to the Emperor. Even though I don’t hold a position as high as theirs, being near the Emperor lends a certain prestige. To them, seeing is akin to seeing the Emperor; they naturally have to humble themselves," Zhao Ling explained.
"If you can just order the death of so many people, why is Tiantai Pharmaceutical even undergoing a trial? Why not capture everyone involved and kill them?" Wei Tianyang asked.
"It’s not that simple. Tiantai Pharmaceutical is a foreign company, involving Westerners. Killing Westerners indiscriminately could negatively impact investnt and trade, and international relations. You’re still young; you don’t fully understand these things," Zhao Ling explained.
"That casino has been in Fengrao City for sixteen years, harming countless people. Why only deal with it today?" Wei Tianyang asked again.
"The lower classes have their own way of living. Gambling violates the law, but it’s just the common people who suffer. Step back and think—if you don’t gamble, they can’t hurt you, can they?" Zhao Ling said with a laugh.
Wei Tianyang shook his head, "Murder is because they commit evil. It’s not about who their evil targets... I think your way is not fair."
"Heh," Zhao Ling laughed lightly, "The fairest thing in the world is that everyone endures injustice. We uphold laws to control people, not to control ourselves."
"This is not right!" Wei Tianyang exclaid angrily.
Zhao Ling hissed, a displeased expression crossing her face, but it was fleeting. She cald herself and said, "In this world, there is no right and wrong, only the strong and the weak. Wei Tianyang, you talk of fairness and righteousness because Yin Country took notice of you after you obliterated Wuliang City and let you join, allowing those five casino operators to kneel there at your rcy."
She turned the car into the flyover.
"If you didn’t have the ability, you wouldn’t even be able to enter the borders," she said with a smile.
Silence filled the car as it returned to the parking lot of Jade Pavilion.
Zhao Ling accompanied Wei Tianyang to his room door, leaning against it, she asked with a smile, "Do you really not want to co in tonight?"
"No need, I don’t like older won," Wei Tianyang shook his head.
He entered the room and closed the door, leaving Zhao Ling standing rigid outside.
"Older won? This little brat called an older woman?! Am I not firm enough? Not charming enough?! To be rejected by a teenager?! Just wait until I trick you into bed one day, I’ll drain you dry..." Zhao Ling raged inwardly, fuming as she left Jade Pavilion.
