Wang Dan’s mouth hung wide open. His tongue seed frozen stiff, unable to straighten, and he couldn’t utter a sound for a long ti. You’d think in the apocalypse, who hadn’t seen a dead person? Especially those in their positions, who often dealt with bodies. But they had never witnessed a death so brutal.

The cries of agony grew weaker. Within just a few minutes, they had gradually lost their last vestiges of consciousness. It was evident that there had been fierce resistance, but what did that matter now? The chicken, like a devil, had pecked out several people’s eyes in an instant. One individual lost consciousness before he could even scream. He was unlucky; the chicken had pecked his head open, revealing a large hole from which a gory ss oozed out.

The villagers backed away a few more steps. They hadn’t seen clearly at first, but now they realized they were standing in blood!

Li Dayou saw Jing Shu approaching so calmly and beca even more anxious, stuttering, "It—it—it killed people! It can actually... kill people? But it’s just a chicken!"

How could a chicken be so ferocious? Was this really just a chicken? Could a chicken kill people? The events that just unfolded... My God, what had he just experienced? Was this all a dream?

Jing Shu snapped her fingers. The terrifying fighting chicken, after dealing with the last person who hadn’t quite succumbed, wiped its beak and its noble claws on the man’s back. Then, it waddled towards her, its plump butt twisting. It knew its master preferred cleanliness and disliked bloodiness, especially the thought of it eating these filthy humans. Thus, it obediently followed behind Jing Shu, even raising its head as if seeking praise.

"Well done," Jing Shu said with a smile, then turned to Li Dayou and asked, "Otherwise, how do you think a chicken like this has survived until now?"

Li Dayou swallowed hard, as if sothing were stuck in his throat, rendering him speechless.

Seeing such a ferocious chicken and having witnessed how it had just killed all five people, the villagers moved even further away. They had thought the chicken was a delicious al, but who knew it was actually a damn fiend! Who would dare eat it now?

"That’s Ergazi, right? Ergazi is completely dead."

"The village chief... the one with his head pecked open, that’s the village chief, isn’t it? Poor man, how could he just die like that?"

"What in the world is going on? How can they let a chicken kill people? Could it kill us too?"

Quiet murmurs spread through the crowd.

Just then, Aunt Wang spoke up from the crowd, "Are you all brainless? If they wanted to kill you, wouldn’t it be easy? Why bother giving you food, making porridge, and providing eggs? To fatten you up as rations? Pah! It must be because the village chief and those n were scoundrels! Rember those children from Ga Mountain Valley last year who mysteriously died and disappeared? Do you really know nothing about that?"

"What are you talking about? How would we know?"

"Exactly! We’re also curious. What did the village chief and the others do to end up dead like this? We’re... we’re scared too. What if the chicken goes on a rampage and kills indiscriminately?"

"Quiet down!" Jing Shu ordered. The villagers imdiately fell silent, subdued by the fat chicken’s intimidating presence. Jing Shu then asked, "Captain Li, what exactly happened just now?"

Li Dayou paused for a mont before speaking. "The village chief of Ga Mountain Valley brought those n onto the boat. They ca to the kitchen to steal food. When they opened the door and found inside, two of them restrained while the others went to steal the chicken and grab the boxes. My gun was in my room, and I hadn’t brought it with , so I was subdued. Afterwards..." A strange light flickered in Li Dayou’s eyes. "I didn’t see clearly what happened, but this chicken killed all of them. You all arrived then. That’s the gist of it. The village chief and his n were planning to steal all the food to control you. When the rescue team arrives, who knows, they might even have used us as hostages. People like that deserved to die!"

Li Dayou had seen it all, very clearly. It was too bloody; he simply couldn’t speak about it, nor did he dare. Forget it. Let it remain a secret locked in his heart forever. He didn’t want to inflict psychological scars on others.

This was no chicken. This was a wolf in sheep’s clothing.

Jing Shu smiled faintly. "Did everyone hear that? My chicken never kills without cause. Today, when so many of you tried to catch it, it only ran and didn’t peck you, right? So, as long as you don’t harbor any ill intentions, it won’t bother you. Otherwise, these n are an example of the consequences. Even if this matter were reported to the governnt, we’ve done nothing wrong. So, let’s all disperse. Wang Dan, find soone to take care of the bodies."

She handled the situation so lightly, and the villagers didn’t dare say much more. Stealing food was a common occurrence. They had even tried to steal Seeds from the boat before but failed, getting caught and rely beaten before being let go. The boat team hadn’t treated them harshly.

But this ti, when the village chief brought n to steal food again, they ended up dead, and so miserably. They had survived so much, only to die just as they were about to be rescued from this dark, forsaken place.

What they had tried to steal wasn’t a chicken; it was their own lives.

Previously, so villagers had casually considered targeting the Little Aunt. She was beautiful, extrely rich, had plenty of food, and even a chicken. Who wouldn’t be envious? Now, they had all dismissed such thoughts. Even when dinner—dry, thin, baked clay biscuits—was served, there were no complaints. They ate obediently and returned to their work.

The frigid atmosphere on the boat didn’t last long. Instead, shortly thereafter, all the crew mbers beca incredibly excited, shouting in unison:

"Eleven!"

"Twelve!"

Every half hour or so, such a shout would erupt, leaving the villagers below very puzzled. What was happening on the boat to cause such excitent and exhilaration? Hadn’t the chicken left them traumatized?

These shouts continued late into the night, making it difficult for the villagers to sleep.

Jing Shu yawned, cleared a clean space, laid out a moisture-proof pad, set up her personal luxury tent with a warm blanket, and put in earplugs. Let those idiots count eggs if they want to, she thought. What a bunch of country bumpkins.

It turned out that no amount of lingering fear or how ferocious a chicken was could compare to the practical benefit of it laying eggs. The group that had been terrified of the fat chicken monts before, especially Li Dayou, completely changed their tune after Wang Dan exclaid, "Hey, didn’t it just lay an egg? How did it lay another one already?"

At that mont, Li Dayou personally took charge of giving the fat chicken water and finding it food. Afraid the chicken might get cold, he even built a fire for it. Wang Dan personally gave the fat chicken a massage. The people around weren’t idle either: so stroked its feathers, others trimd its claws, and so even told it jokes, treating it almost like a living Buddha.
