Yang Yang nodded angrily. At first, he too thought it was just a small village abruptly cut off by tectonic plates. Who would have thought that the ruffians in the village would dare attack ? It was my own carelessness!

This was simply a disaster scene. Jing Shu had initially thought the robbers would be so kind of organization, but unexpectedly, it turned out to be a village. But what about those eggs they ntioned? Setting aside the black liquid, Jing Shu was also interested in these eggs. Because her perspective was different this ti, the Jing Shu of this life had experienced many things her previous life had not.

It made sense. Back then, I couldn’t even get enough to eat, so how could I have cared about other things? Just like these people, I only wanted to survive. But what for? What was the aning of it all? I didn’t know. I just felt numb towards life.

"What a pity... Many people must have died, right? How many of you are left now?"

"Only this Northwest corner of our village wasn’t compressed. See, just these ten or so households remain. So died along the way for various reasons, so now there are only a few dozen of us left." Guo Tou pointed towards so dimly visible, dilapidated tile-roofed houses. From their vantage point, they could faintly see several families peering suspiciously through their windows.

The entire village had been squeezed together by mountains from all directions. Most of the inhabitants had died; it was an incredibly horrific scene.

Jing Shu couldn’t help but shudder at these unsettling gazes. They were so cold and dreary, it felt like being in a ghost film. She dispatched many of her insects to scout ahead but found they weren’t very obedient, subtly trembling as if in fear of sothing.

Jing Shu beca even more alert. Even though I can see the entire village and the villagers behind the windows watching us warily, where are the monsters they ntioned? Where are they?

"You couldn’t contact the outside world before, but now that we’re here, do you want to leave these mountains with us and find the governnt? The situation outside is also harsh, but it’s still a bit better than what you have here. Staying in this place, you’re always at risk of being crushed by the mountains."

Guo Tou scratched his head. "I can’t make the decision. I listen to Xiao Wei."

Yang Yang rolled his eyes behind Guo Tou. Can’t they remove these eggs from first? I feel like sothing in my neck is about to hatch! If this takes any longer, am I going to end up as nourishnt too?

"Xiao Wei? Who’s that? Your leader?" Jun Bao asked curiously. That definitely sounds like a girl’s na.

At the ntion of Xiao Wei, Guo Tou’s face lit up. "That’s right! She’s our leader! She’s the village chief’s daughter, our village beauty. She’s smart and kind, and we all survived thanks to Xiao Wei."

"Guo Tou!" Wen Jun tugged at Guo Tou’s clothes, clearly displeased.

Guo Tou pouted. "Alright, alright! What’s wrong with saying that? Xiao Wei *is* truly amazing."

Jing Shu noticed Yang Yang looked unwell and asked, "These eggs in our companion... how are they removed? Is there sothing we need to do? Do we need to cut them out with a knife?" If it requires surgery, I’ll need to prepare so alcohol beforehand.

"Hey, it’s not that troubleso! Just co with us to find Xiao Wei. She’s the only one in the village who can remove eggs implanted inside soone," Guo Tou said, leading the group towards the front of a mountain.

Here, a tile-roofed house was half-exposed, the rest seemingly swallowed by the massive mountain. Through crevices in the mountainside, they could faintly see other houses crushed flat as pancakes. If anyone had been sleeping inside then, they would have beco human pancakes too, I suppose.

Jun Bao’s eyes lit up again. "The village chief’s daughter? So this is the village chief’s house, right?"

Wen Jun’s voice was somber. "The village chief’s entire family died. Their ho was buried in the mountain too. Only Xiao Wei survived... When we found her..." He seed to recall sothing, his expression becoming unreadable. Taking a deep breath, he continued, "Her legs were crippled. When you go inside later, please, don’t say or ask anything inappropriate, and don’t stare."

The group nodded. They understood the basic courtesy of not probing painful subjects. Then, they entered the house.

The house still retained so pre-apocalypse furnishings. It was a typical rural main room, with a wooden table and an iron stove. Unfortunately, the stove had long been cold. How could they light it without Fuel? After six months of consumption, everything flammable must have been burned.

The house was very cold; even Jing Shu felt the chill.

In one corner stood a large bed. The wall behind it was the mountain itself. A pale-faced girl, perhaps fifteen or sixteen years old, was half-sitting up in the bed. She was covered with a large, thick quilt that looked warm, and it bulged slightly in places.

Xiao Wei, from her corner, looked towards Wen Jun. Wen Jun gave a subtle nod and brought out a box and a half of Compressed Biscuits from behind him. "This should last us for a while," Wen Jun said.

Guo Tou imdiately grabbed a biscuit, tore open the packaging, and handed it to Xiao Wei. "Try this. It’s got sugar in it. I hear just one of these can fill you up..."

The girl on the bed pointed at Yang Yang. "I’ll remove the eggs first. It will be a little painful, so please bear with it."

Yang Yang quietly signaled to Jing Shu and Jun Bao. Once these eggs are out, should we fight back, or what? How can we just let this go? , a perfectly dignified... kidnapped and extorted by a bunch of vile villagers! Can this really be overlooked?

Jun Bao wasn’t interested in Yang Yang at all. He didn’t even glance at him, his attention entirely on Xiao Wei on the bed.

The thod of extracting the eggs was surprisingly simple. Yang Yang crouched down. Xiao Wei slowly extended her hand, and a transparent, fist-sized egg erged from the back of Yang Yang’s neck. The egg was alive, pulsating continuously.

"A ’little painful’? Are you kidding ? This is worse than having water pumped into your body!"

Large beads of sweat stread down Yang Yang’s forehead as he clenched his teeth and persevered. Although I’m a bit of a sadist, I’ve also endured a lot of torture. How else would I have learned how to make people feel the most pain?

Pain is usually like a daily al to , but this kind of pain... it’s clearly pushing to my absolute limit.

He fainted from the pain as soon as the egg was removed. Jing Shu quickly stepped forward to check on him and found no serious injuries.

"Hey, Yang Yang, wake up! We need to go!"

This is awkward. Yang Yang has completely fainted. Should I carry him back? He was just thinking about retaliating... but sohow, this robbery feels different from the others. As for taking back the Compressed Biscuits... I’m a bit torn. They aren’t mine, so strictly speaking, it has nothing to do with .

But those Compressed Biscuits are ultimately for the rescue team mbers, ant to rescue my Seeds. So, it does relate to in a way. Jing Shu looked at Jun Bao. Why am I agonizing over this decision anyway? Isn’t Jun Bao the leader this ti?

Jun Bao was already chatting with the young girl again...
