"Even if we manage to enter the magnate’s mansion through the seabed, dodging countless dangers, the other side of the exit also has traps. Why must we take this path through the sea? It’s too risky," Jing Shu gestured in the water. If it ca down to it, I could disguise myself as a nun to sneak in. Damn it, why choose such a dangerous thod of entry?
But Yang Yang signaled her to calm down; if he weren’t sure of himself, why would he have rashly dived into the water?
As expected of the Underwater World built by the magnate, it was vast—very vast—virtually indistinguishable from the ordinary seabed. The difference was that this wealthy man had moved an entire underwater ecosystem right beneath his own feet. The rich certainly have peculiar hobbies.
Jing Shu followed closely behind Hao Yunlai. First, there was a long underwater passage. After they had swum for several hundred ters, the view suddenly widened. This next area must be the Underwater World developed beneath the magnate’s feet, Jing Shu realized.
The seawater was a bit icy, and a GURGLING sound echoed in her ears—the effect of underwater pressure. The murky water sowhat affected Jing Shu’s vision, yet she could still make out so details. For instance, a hunting shark opened its huge, bloody maw, continuously sucking in surrounding fish and creatures, while other fish, in turn, incessantly nibbled at its flesh. They were eating each other.
Jing Shu slowly opened her mouth, exhaling oxygen bubbles. This underwater shark is rotting all over! Its flesh is turning green and white in patches... this familiar appearance... it’s clearly contracted the Zombie disease and beco one of the Undead Creatures! It’s not just terrestrial creatures that have been widely infected by this virus; even those in the sea aren’t spared anymore!
The three of them successfully swam around the shark. However, Hao Yunlai suddenly began to tremble violently, as if drained of strength, and sank to the bottom of the Underwater World, which was about a dozen ters deep here. Jing Shu and Yang Yang followed him down.
Just then, a large school of fish, each several dozen centiters long, swam overhead, passing right over the area where the shark lingered. In a matter of re seconds, the three-to-four-ter-long shark was devoured by this massive school, leaving behind only its white bones!
Upon closer inspection, these fish had mouths full of sharp teeth and looked extrely ferocious!
"They’re piranhas! Holy shit, that was close!"
Jing Shu felt beads of sweat form on her forehead. Hao Yunlai’s timing was perfect.
No wonder no one has ever made it through here underwater alive. No matter how many weapons they brought, it would likely be useless.
Jing Shu felt sothing prick her foot. Looking down, she saw coral and so peculiar-looking crabs. The mont she landed, this large group of crabs instantly stirred, launching an attack on the three of them!
But just then, the shark’s white bones drifted down. The crabs imdiately shifted their target, and a CRUNCHING, CRACKING sound arose. Their claws, made of so unknown material, actually crushed and devoured the bones! Horrifying!
"Quick, let’s go!"
Jing Shu’s heart pounded furiously. Entrusting my life to fate is just too unreliable, isn’t it?
They successfully evaded these bizarre creatures, but Jing Shu hadn’t anticipated that even more perilous beings awaited them.
"We can’t go this way." Hao Yunlai’s brow furrowed in pain; he sensed a danger so intense it made his scalp tingle. He stopped, clutching his shoulders and shivering. "It’s very dangerous. I can feel it’s very dangerous!"
What’s wrong? Is sothing terrible about to happen?! Jing Shu’s heart also began to race. This is too unreliable! So, what do we do next? The so-called Perceiver of danger has stopped moving. But wouldn’t staying put be even more dangerous?!
Just as Jing Shu was growing frantic, unable to think of a solution and preparing to unleash her ultimate ability, Hao Yunlai suddenly seized his own neck with both hands. He began to twist it with all his might in a bizarre, contorted manner, as if desperately trying to end his own life.
"What the hell is this?" Jing Shu’s eyes widened as she watched the eerie scene. Is he so certain the danger is inescapable that he’s trying to kill himself first?
Yang Yang pulled Jing Shu a bit farther away. They then saw Hao Yunlai struggling desperately, his legs kicking continuously in the water, his face turning a deep, suffocated red. His hands gripped his own neck even tighter. However, upon closer inspection, it seed as if soone else was controlling Hao Yunlai’s hands, forcing them to strangle him, while he himself was resisting in agony.
I don’t get it. I just don’t understand. Is this so form of self-harm? Suicide by this thod seems pretty unreliable.
After more than thirty seconds, Hao Yunlai finally coughed, spewing bubbles and frothy blood into his oxygen tank. His face was pallid as he resud swimming in a specific direction. The atmosphere beca incredibly eerie!
But Hao Yunlai was far from normal at this mont! His eyes were a frightening, bloodshot red, and veins bulged all over his body, making him look as if he might explode at any second.
Usually, Hao Yunlai was a very Zen-like man. He always hid among crowds, silent and unobtrusive—even more so than a Monk. His favorite activity was sleeping. Even though we’re all teammates from Wu City, I really don’t know much about Hao Yunlai, Jing Shu thought. I’ve never worked with Hao Yunlai before; it’s as if fate, or so unseen design, had always arranged for us to perfectly miss each other... until today.
"Let’s go," Yang Yang said, then followed Hao Yunlai, no longer seeming worried about any further danger.
Jing Shu’s mind reeled with questions. Didn’t Hao Yunlai just say it was very dangerous? How could it suddenly be safe now? Did the danger disappear just because he choked himself? What kind of logic is that?
Though full of doubts, Jing Shu cautiously followed Yang Yang. I need to calculate the combat capabilities of these underwater creatures and my own. I’ve already co up with at least three escape plans. When the ti cos, I won’t hesitate to reveal my abilities. Soone like , who has died once before, cherishes her life all the more.
However, what happened next truly made Jing Shu’s eyes widen in disbelief. If the Hao Yunlai from before had been focused on evading these troubles, the current Hao Yunlai seed like a completely different person. His gaze was fiercer, more rciless, even cold like a machine. It was as if everywhere he passed, his surroundings were cursed by a plague-bearing demon.
Yes! That’s the only word to describe him: Plague-Bearer!
Wherever he swam, any living creature in his path t with misfortune. They were either eaten by sothing else or died mysteriously. There were even more bizarre forms of death. In any case, all sorts of accidents constantly occurred, leaving Jing Shu utterly astonished.
Hao Yunlai? Is this good fortune, or is he actually the Son of Misfortune?!
