"When I return, I’ll take you to the southern forest to play for a few days." Looking at Katrina who handed him a briefcase, Zheng Yichen hugged the girl, "I’ll prepare a suitable gun for you then."
"Mm, co back early." After kissing Zheng Yichen on the face, Katrina said sowhat reluctantly.
"That will depend on what happens, but it won’t take too long." Zheng Yichen said, carrying the briefcase as he left ho.
On his way, he took the opportunity to contact Ahn Qi.
"Is it urgent? If not, you can wait for for a while."
Upon receiving Zheng Yichen’s response, Ahn Qi contacted Ahn Ke.
By the ti he arrived at the Dusk Cathedral, Zheng Yichen’s car had two boxes in it, one briefcase containing props given by the witch, and the other box filled with modern weapons and equipnt, including biochemical weapons, not for mass destruction, but still incredibly dangerous.
"Let’s go."
Tia led Zheng Yichen to a room he had been to many tis, and Zheng Yichen asked, "What happens if I open this door?"
Tia stepped aside without hesitation, "Then you open it."
"..." Fine, there didn’t seem to be anything special. Zheng Yichen thought as he put his hand on the doorknob and, under Tia’s watchful gaze, turned it, the dark room suddenly brightened.
After leaving the room, he looked at the architectural style of the place, similar to that of a cathedral, and needless to say, the color was the usual hue of Dusk. The energy level was higher than in Chiang Wei’s world, but what was higher still was the intensity level.
It was the highest he had encountered in any world.
Under these conditions, everything was enhanced, and he felt like he could punch apart the Dusk Cathedral with a single blow... Wasn’t that thought a bit blasphemous?
The Dusk Cathedral was empty, with no locals or Dusk rcenaries to be seen, only one native Dusk nun.
Just one??
Zheng Yichen’s eyes widened; in that place, the number of Dusk nuns was like ’supplies,’ the higher the difficulty, the fewer the supplies. Now, only one Dusk nun stood alone here—was this world close to ruin?
Looking out through a window, he saw a swath of red outside.
It wasn’t the red mist that blooms from a Demon Flower, but the background itself had turned red. The sky’s sun showed a dark red hue, with an unusually distinct black outline, and just looking at it made Zheng Yichen’s eyes ache and his brain buzz.
This was a world that had beco flesh. If the Demon Flower’s chaotic ti only caused severe anomalies in creatures and the environnt was rely enveloped in red mist, it paled in comparison to the current scene.
"How much ti do I have?"
The sole native Dusk nun said, "A lot of ti."
Zheng Yichen was dissatisfied with this response, "I need a specific ti."
"More than ten years."
"...What on earth has happened to this world?" Zheng Yichen widened his eyes in disbelief. If it was a world nearing its end, shouldn’t there be less ti? Hadn’t the last event already exceeded six months?
They were always very urgent situations, and now a very special case had arisen. Zheng Yichen involuntarily looked at Tia, wanting a precise answer from the Dusk nun.
"Cancerous change," Tia calmly stated, "This world is heading towards its end, so you will need to destroy it."
Zheng Yichen doubted he heard correctly, "Destroy this world? Is this sothing a person does?"
"Since you were assigned here, it ans you can achieve it."
"I want to know exactly what happened to this world and what will be the outco if it’s not dealt with?"
He felt that those apocalyptic worlds he had experienced were bad enough, but now he had encountered sothing even worse?
The native Dusk nun explained to Zheng Yichen, "This world was once dominated by the Devouring Faction. The Devouring Faction, Boundary Breaking Faction, and Equilibrium Faction had a conflict, which led to this world’s ’cancerous change.’ An uncleaned cancerous world can draw other worlds into being affected."
"So where is the local Devouring Faction?"
"They fled."
Zheng Yichen inwardly cursed, "So you’re saying there are no local forces left to wrap things up??"
"Correct, otherwise you wouldn’t be here."
```
Fine, his grudge with the Equilibrium Faction had deepened. The local Devouring Faction had fled, and those troublemakers from the Equilibrium Faction probably ran away too. And now this huge ss was left here without anyone to solve it, so it fell to him to take care of it... A three-way battle, the world suffers, what in hell was this situation?
"Shouldn’t there be Proxy Agents more powerful than ?"
Tia nodded, "There are, but they’re not as special as you. The success rate of solving this world’s problems would be even lower without you, and if this world remains unsolved, the harm it will cause will be much more severe."
"Whether it’s the Boundary Breaking Faction or the Equilibrium Faction, it’s all a disease, but this here is cancer."
Zheng Yichen took a deep breath, "If it’s cancer, then before this cancer cell nad ’world’ spreads, we must destroy it. The world won’t just destroy itself, will it?"
The local Dusk nun brought out a laptop, "No, it will only beco more active."
Going with the flow, he handed his phone over to the local nun, "Give a map, and please don’t tell I need to get a spaceship to deal with that thing in the sky."
Zheng Yichen was referring to the sun, which bore a dark red hue frad by a very distinct black edge.
While acquiring the map, Zheng Yichen went to the storage lockers to write several letters. He had wanted to take a few photos, but being unfamiliar with the world’s cancerous changes, he held back the idea. Just looking at the sun made him feel uneasy, and the photos might be affected too.
He took so items out of the locker, including enough compressed rations. So were provided by wealthy lady Ahn, others were from the world of Chiang Wei. With the water issue resolved, a suitcase container could ensure he had enough to last more than three months in the wilderness.
The taste of supplies wasn’t a concern.
"If I hadn’t enhanced my equipnt, would I co here?" After repacking his belongings, Zheng Yichen asked Tia.
"No."
Her straightforward answer made the corner of Zheng Yichen’s mouth twitch slightly, "Is this self-inflicted? Should I not rely too much on equipnt from now on?"
"Without the enhanced equipnt, there are Proxy Agents with higher success rates than you."
Zheng Yichen raised an eyebrow. So he was still special, huh?
The local Dusk nun ca over and handed him the phone. He checked the map on it and nodded, "Wait for my good news!"
Riding out of the Dusk Cathedral garage, Zheng Yichen imdiately coughed twice after encountering the air outside. It was perated with an indescribable scent, not one of rot, but similar to blood.
However, this air was different from the one affected by the Demon Flower; aside from being slightly irritating, it seed to have no other effect.
He took out a pair of shades, "Start recording."
"Received." The hologram of the artificial intelligence Lilith sat on Zheng Yichen’s shoulder, with several projection screens surrounding him, displaying the distant vistas that were out of his line of sight.
Zheng Yichen used his thermal vision while advancing. Everything within sight glowed red—not due to the environnt’s temperature, but because the temperature of everything here was high!
He conjured a long spear in his hand and stirred the ground with it, raising a chunk of soil that looked like a mix of bloodied flesh and dirt, with vein-like structures visible within.
Zheng Yichen glanced back at the Dusk Cathedral, the only structure that looked normal in this land of flesh. From his bag, he took out a seed and tossed it into the gouged hole.
"First, we need to find so normal living creatures."
"Target one has been updated," Lilith imdiately said. Zheng Yichen put on the shades, started the motorbike, and rode across the ground of flesh, with the feedback of slight vibration not feeling as if he was advancing on solid ground but rather atop a corpse...
A world ravaged by cancer.
What had the Equilibrium Faction and the Devouring Faction done to turn the world into this state? Zheng Yichen was curious, but obviously, the ti wasn’t right to figure that out.
There wasn’t just one Devouring Faction, and the Equilibrium Faction operated by breaking down into smaller units.
Over ten years of ti ant Zheng Yichen felt no relief walking upon this land of flesh. The surrounding sea of red constantly stimulated the nerves, and staying in such an environnt for long could drive soone mad, right?
Passing a small orchard, Zheng Yichen looked at this forest of flesh trees, hesitated for a mont, and then started to move around it. This area used to be a local orchard, and nearby, he found a small house with electrical wires pulled over.
The house’s surface was covered with a dense layer of ’creepers.’ Using his black spear, Zheng Yichen picked at it, revealing structure similar to veins from which blood flowed when snapped.
He touched it with a finger and instantly flung the blood from his digit in disgust. The taste was more revolting than when he faced that highly toxic Alien Phenonon creature, with an indescribable ’earthy fishy’ odor to it. Fortunately, the quantity was small, so the nausea wasn’t too strong.
But it was still as uncomfortable as eating a spoiled almond.
"Damn these people!" Zheng Yichen cursed, his mouth agape, as he smashed open the tightly closed door with his black spear. A rush of a blood stench spilled out. The house’s interior was filled with veins pulsating gently, more robust than those outside.
Moreover, Zheng Yichen heard a strong heartbeat. Influenced by the sound, his own heart seed to speed up a bit, but the overall effect was minimal. He moved toward the source of the heartbeat, where a person once lived.
