"Why not just keep this thing? I think the cat you’ve turned into looks much better than ," Zheng Yichen stroked the white cat’s head.
"I have no use for this thing here. You’d better keep it," the white cat spoke.
Zheng Yichen didn’t refuse and continued walking forward while holding the cat that was Katrina, strolling by the lake. There were quite a few people walking around here at night, and the area around North Lake was much safer compared to the southern forest, even though swimming was prohibited at night. Still, people are alive, and there will always be so who don’t believe in superstitions and want to take the challenge.
His vision was good, and he could see a huge shadow in the lake, but judging by its size, it obviously wouldn’t co to shore because it would certainly run aground.
During the two’s ti, Zheng Yichen’s phone rang—it was a text ssage, not a call. He didn’t pay it much attention, and only looked at the content after getting back. He yawned, "Another task to do, and it hasn’t even been a month yet?"
Tossing his phone onto the bedside table, Zheng Yichen beckoned to Katrina, "Let’s not worry about this right now, it’s ti to sleep."
The call from Dusk would have to wait until tomorrow, as it wouldn’t affect what was going to happen tonight.
The next day, Zheng Yichen gave a call to the wealthy lady Ahn, telling her he had to go on another business trip... Ahn Qi had grown accustod to this and didn’t find it odd—so long as Zheng Yichen ca back with good things.
This ti, what Zheng Yichen brought back was of great help to the Ahn family, who placed a high value on technological power. The item wouldn’t have too much impact in any world it was placed in.
If they could truly develop technology capable of God-slaying, then in a world in a higher environnt, even if they didn’t get a very strong cultivation thod on their side, they could quickly root themselves and stand firm.
Not to ntion anything else, the projection technology alone brought great convenience to their side. This technology was just a beginning, and as it developed, they could achieve global communication. Moreover, this technology was very handy in worlds stuck in more primitive tis.
And let’s not even start on the new operating systems and electronic devices—the electronic invisibility glasses significantly improved the equipnt of combat troops, greatly enhancing their concealnt and noticeably boosting their combat capabilities. Military-use electronic invisibility glasses actually gave an additional crosshair in the wearer’s vision.
Almost like directing where to hit.
"Stay safe," Ahn Qi said over the phone in the end.
Zheng Yichen had already been restocked with the small-scale resources he had used up before, like ergency dicines, upon his return.
"No problem."
At the entrance of Dusk Cathedral, Zheng Yichen gently touched Katrina’s face, then turned and walked into the cathedral. As usual, he passed on the business trip information through a storage locker.
He then found Prioress Tia, "Let’s see what world it is this ti!"
Tia, as usual, with her usual deanor, led Zheng Yichen into the room. With the closing and opening of a door, the "transmigration" was completed. Zheng Yichen couldn’t wait to exit the room, and as soon as he stepped out, he shivered, "Is it winter in this world? It’s so cold?"
He wasn’t particularly afraid of the cold anymore, but he could still feel it.
"It’s not winter; this world is currently in sumr," said Tia from behind him, with minor changes to her clothing though the style didn’t suggest this world was of the martial arts genre.
"If it’s like this in sumr, wouldn’t winter freeze you on the spot?" mumbled Zheng Yichen as he arrived at the central courtyard of Dusk Territory. The style here was also that of a cathedral, and he felt noticeably warr once inside.
Outside the cathedral entrance, the environnt wasn’t full of swirling snowflakes; the sun was even shining, and judging by the sky, it was noon. However, once Zheng Yichen extended his hand, all he felt from the sunlight was cold.
The sun didn’t bring much warmth, behaving more like a cold light bulb that simply emits light.
From the architectural style and the visible vehicles, it seed this world was in a state similar to Earth’s 1980s.
It wasn’t a high-tech world. As for the environntal level, Zheng Yichen felt it was quite balanced, but significantly better than Hazy City—possibly what was referred to as a double Level 3 environnt?
There were no surveillance caras or anything of the sort visible around. Zheng Yichen exhaled and watched his breath turn to fog, then he went back inside Dusk Cathedral. There were ordinary people here too, around a dozen or so, mostly older individuals over sixty.
The number of Dusk nuns was seven, which was a moderate amount, and the world’s population shouldn’t be too small either.
"There are no other Dusk rcenaries here?"
"There are, but they’re not here," Tia replied, extending her hand to Zheng Yichen. He handed her a phone, following the old routine. Of course, he could choose not to do this, but then she would hand him a paper map, making him figure things out on his own.
That was a dreadful experience compared to an electronic offline map.
A local Dusk nun took Zheng Yichen’s phone from Tia and ca back after not going too far, having updated its map software. Opening it, Zheng Yichen looked conflicted, "Is it because I have a better mode of transportation now that all the places I need to go are far away?"
"It largely depends on your ability to move," Tia explained.
"Since when could I teleport across space, and do I also have to engage in interstellar warfare?"
She shook her head, "Teleportation won’t necessarily allow you to reach your destination imdiately, even locally."
"Then the place you’re talking about must be quite extraordinary," Zheng Yichen put away his phone, went to the garage of Dusk Cathedral, parked the vehicle at the entrance of Dusk Cathedral, and did not set off right away. Instead, he went to the storage area to check for any new replies that had co in.
After responding to each ssage, he casually took out a cara that could automatically wash photos, took so pictures, and then departed.
In Hazy City, Katrina looked at the selfie sent back by Zheng Yichen and smiled but then her expression turned to worry: "You must co back early."
She glanced at the Dusk nun. She wanted to try becoming a Dusk rcenary too, but Zheng Yichen didn’t seem to approve of the idea. After thinking it over, she decided she would discuss it thoroughly with him when he returned.
"Brother Chang Qing has gone to another world again," Qi Xiangyun said, holding a photo, while Lin Yaoyao looked at another next to her.
"The place he’s gone this ti seems similar to the last one, but it seems a bit more... backward?"
Given that their era was ancient, the sight of these modern photographs inevitably made them feel sowhat ’face-blind.’
"It’s much less advanced, just judging by the structure of these vehicles," Qi Xiangyun stated with certainty. It was just the two of them here; Liu Hongzhao wasn’t present, not because she had gone to accept a new commission as a Dusk rcenary, but because she was truly in seclusion.
Especially after she had learned so information about the Demonic Abyss Seven Kills.
As for combat strength, the gap between the three of them had beco even more apparent; Liu Hongzhao was unequivocally the strongest. Qi Xiangyun needed to study chanical Techniques in addition, and Lin Yaoyao was researching dical practices. She still practiced martial arts, but she wasn’t as much of a ’fighting fanatic’ as Liu Hongzhao.
"Shall we take a few photos as well?" Lin Yaoyao took out a cara from the storage locker — naturally, it was a gift from Zheng Yichen. The two girls huddled together, took so photos, and then she continued, "But about that matter, do you really not plan to tell Brother Chang Qing?"
After a brief hesitation, Qi Xiangyun shook her head: "No need to ntion it anymore. The dynasty is in decline, yet they can’t let go of their pride... they’ve gone too far, maybe they shouldn’t exist anymore?"
"Okay, I’ll support you when it cos to it," Lin Yaoyao didn’t bring up the subject again, which was rely about the local world’s dynasty having designs on them.
Or to be specific, designs on Qi Xiangyun, with Lin Yaoyao included as an afterthought.
The royal suitor the dynasty had put forward indeed thought this. Though they were young in age, they had experienced a lot in such an environnt. Qi Xiangyun didn’t have to guess to know what those people were thinking; they valued the chanical Techniques of the Qi family highly, now that many in this world had died.
chanical Techniques could produce a large number of chanical soldiers, having her assistance would be a huge advantage in the fight for domination of the world once again.
The envoy they sent at that ti expressed how great an honor it was.
What face did a declining dynasty have to offer such things? Did they really think they were naive girls? Not to ntion anything else, the books and magazines Zheng Yichen casually sent over had greatly broadened their horizons, exposing them to a culture very different from their own era.
At the ti, Qi Xiangyun did not consider it much and directly refused, reasoning that in this world, everyone’s starting point was roughly the sa. No matter the designs they harbored, at most they would resort to thods that were sowhat less dignified.
As for combat power, they were not lacking. Or rather, if Liu Hongzhao had been present when those envoys visited Qi Family Town, none of them would have made it back.
Since then, Qi Family Town had seen an influx of unfamiliar faces. Qi Xiangyun felt this world had too few people and had little desire to deal with them, but the newcors mistook her reluctance for weakness.
Just two days before, Qi Family Town had gone through a purge, and after stabilizing the situation, she and Lin Yaoyao ca to rest in the Dusk Territory.
In these tumultuous tis, the Dusk Territory was the one true place where one could relax.
Now she found herself missing the old days; at least back then, she didn’t have to worry about anything. With her family’s care, life was carefree. After the cataclysmic change, she t Zheng Yichen and had been in a protected state.
But now, everything depended on her own thought and resolution of problems...
Qi Xiangyun said, "By the way, ask Brother Chang Qing if he needs anything."
Lin Yaoyao brought out her dicine kit: "It would be great if we could send ourselves over."
That comnt made Qi Xiangyun roll her eyes inwardly. She wished that were possible too.
