Chapter 40: Chapter 15: Hermitage Holy Hall (Part 2)

Only he could get away from here.

Duncan’s riding skill was the strongest. Even if the other side cheated, their galloping speed was still no match for his. The world’s magic wasn’t as powerful as he initially thought. At least the people he’d encountered so far, even the Crow Queen-Triss, seed to be restricted by so kind of law.

They couldn’t perform the many miracle-like feats of the witches from the Mythical Era.

Anya’s anxious voice rang out, "I can’t affect their warhorses."

She seed to have a similar thod, but it was no longer effective.

Communicating with animals.

Provoking animals into a frenzy, making them aggressive, and so on.

The Crow Queen-Triss was still chanting softly. What she was preparing now should be real magic.

Because she had ntioned before that after the fire of Olympus was extinguished, all supernatural abilities of the priests were significantly weakened. The Romans abandoned their divine spirits, and the gods of the Polytheism also abandoned the priests. These days, ordinary witches were no different from common people, possessing just a bit of magic power, capable of so trick-like magic.

True magic required ritual blessings, and special casting tools were needed. The Crow Queen-Triss was now holding a sacrificial stone while chanting, preparing magic, significantly slowing down her horse.

At this rate, she was likely to be the first one caught by the enemy.

"We can’t escape like this!"

Duncan made a quick decision, "Circle around the forest ahead, get ready for battle."

After saying that, he tugged on the reins and fell to the back.

The Crow Queen-Triss gave him a deep glance, still whispering chants with the sacrificial stone in hand.

When they faced the Hun eagle shooters before, the Crow Queen-Triss hadn’t left him behind to withdraw first. At this mont, Duncan wouldn’t leave first, leaving her to face the enemy alone at the back.

Severus decisively raised his shield and followed.

This Druid looked at the church people with eyes full of hatred, whether there was so old feud or maybe his faith had been desecrated as well.

There was no right or wrong in a conflict of faith.

Back then, Christians were also persecuted by Roman priests. Now, it’s just the Inquisition Court trying to annihilate.

History is never new.

"You all go help too."

Anya turned her head toward her three bodyguard riders. The Sarmatian foreign riders imdiately turned their horses around. They were extrely loyal rcenaries in the empire, often joining noble private armies. The other two quickly followed. However, the imperial Forbidden Guard knight hesitated slightly, his gaze fixed on Anya, with the affectionate look of a devoted admirer.

"Damn it."

"At a ti like this, still thinking about love affairs?"

"After this skirmish,"

"We’ll give you the space for a private tryst in the wild!"

In the Dinsion Space, Duncan almost swore.

But Anya didn’t even glance at the imperial Forbidden Guard knight. She also began to whisper sothing, with invisible magic power flowing around her, preparing magic together with the Crow Queen-Triss.

Who would have thought that this lady, who initially panicked, had quite an impressive ability to adapt?

"Follow !"

Duncan was unceremonious, with an omniscient vantage point, knowing where the terrain in this area provided an advantage for his group.

Five riders at the rear.

Duncan raised the Northern Land war bow, aiming at the enemy, and test-fired an arrow, targeting the two-star silver-grey Hermitage Holy Hall guard.

Clang!

The next scene widened his eyes.

Sparks flew.

The Holy Hall guard instantly drew a sword and deflected Duncan’s arrow.

"Is this still a human?" Duncan’s expression changed.

He had seen so pretty exaggerated videos in his past life, like modern archery experts catching arrows with their bare hands and returning the shot or hitting an enemy’s incoming arrow with their own. There might be so staging involved, but it was his first ti witnessing soone using a weapon to deflect an arrow.

This insane reaction speed, are you playing Assassin’s Creed with ?

This guy gave Duncan more pressure than the eagle shooters, being top-tier among mortals.

"People can hardly win by themselves."

"We can only rely on the Crow Queen-Triss’s magic!"

After passing the forest ahead, the five riders gradually slowed down. The Sarmatian foreign rider took out a short bow, but his mounted archery skills were average, just up to standard bow cavalry level. The other two were ard with a sword and a long sword with a shield, ready for combat.

Thankfully, the enemy had no ranged combatants, only the Witch Hunter equipped with a crossbow, while the others were lee units.

Severus guarded Duncan’s right side, evidently regarding him as the mainstay.

The battle was about to erupt!

The Hermitage people directly charged at Duncan. The Witch Hunter raised a crossbow aiming at the two knights. Duncan had just shot an arrow at the Hermitage cultist, who was close, and a scream was heard not far away.

The Hermitage cultist, with armor under his robe, grunted but showed no signs of slowing down.

Divine Concealnt Assault Assassin.

This one-star silver-grey marked enemy suddenly sped up on horseback, catching up with the Sarmatian rider. His figure maneuvered atop the horse, seemingly anticipating and dodging the rider’s arrow while closing in at close range. With a re two or three ters between them, the Sarmatian rider hurriedly took out a short weapon, a one-handed hamr. Before he could swing it, the assassin pounced, and the short blade pierced his throat, throwing the corpse off the horse. The assassin clung to the enemy’s horse back like a monkey.
