Chapter 125 ‒ Weight of Stone, Weight of Ti

The arena trembled as the Labyrinth Keeper reassembled itself, stone fragnts shooting into place like shards drawn to a magnet. With each layer, it grew taller, thicker — more monstrous than before.

[Enemy Identified: Labyrinth Keeper, Level 160]

Tyler’s arms trembled, sweat dripping from his chin and mixing with the grit caked across his armour. He could barely keep his swords steady, every heartbeat pounding like a hamr inside his skull.

“I can’t let it rise again…”

The Keeper’s eyes glowed brighter than ever, and its voice thundered across the battlefield.

[I devour all things… What am I?]

Tyler’s jaw tightened. He lunged forward.

[Activated Skill: Berserk]

Red lightning arced along his shoulders as he slashed at the Keeper’s leg, sparks exploding on impact. The blade barely scratched the surface.

He snarled, eyes burning with desperation. “Acid!”

[Incorrect.]

The Keeper swung a massive arm downward. Tyler barely rolled aside, the impact creating a crater that swallowed an entire section of the arena floor.

Tyler scrambled up, teeth gritted so hard they threatened to crack. “Darkness!”

[Incorrect.]

He charged again, slamming his swords into the Keeper’s knee. Dust erupted, but the stone only cracked faintly before repairing itself.

“Rust! Erosion!”

[Incorrect.]

Each syllable echoed like a death knell. The Keeper’s arm slamd toward him again. Tyler blocked instinctively, but the force launched him backward. He crashed against the far wall, the breath driven from his lungs in a single, ragged gasp.

He coughed, blood dripping down his lips. It’s useless… I can’t even slow it down…

The Keeper advanced, steps heavy enough to shake the ground beneath Tyler’s prone body.

“Decay!”

[Incorrect.]

Tyler forced himself to his feet, shoulders sagging, every limb screaming in agony. His vision doubled, his arms numb.

“What am I doing…? Why can’t I find the answer…?”

The Keeper raised its arm again, the air splitting with its movent. Tyler braced himself, his voice hoarse.

“I don’t… I don’t have ti for this!!”

The Keeper froze. Its burning eyes narrowed.

A deep, thunderous pause filled the arena. Then —

[Correct.]

The single word slamd into Tyler’s mind like a divine revelation.

“What?!!”

The Keeper lowered its arms, the tension draining from its massive fra. Its glowing eyes dimd slightly, as though it were sighing after a millennia-long vigil.

Slowly, it knelt, the ground groaning under its imnse weight. Its torso bent forward, head bowed low, as though acknowledging Tyler’s perseverance at last.

Stone plates shifted across its chest, grinding and clicking as an ornate gateway began to open. Dust and sand spilled from the widening crevice, revealing a shimring golden passage inside.

Tyler’s sword fell limp at his side. A raw, strangled sound — sowhere between a laugh and a sob — clawed its way out of his throat. Relief and exhaustion crashed over him like a tidal wave.

Tyler staggered forward, eyes wide and unsteady. He could barely comprehend what he saw — the massive Keeper, now motionless, like a colossal temple guardian awaiting a final prayer.

As the gateway expanded fully, Tyler saw the corridor beyond: walls lined with glimring lanterns that flickered with eerie blue and green flas. Shadows danced between the lights, coiling like silent phantoms.

He took a hesitant step. Then another. The sand beneath his boots shifted softly, whispering with each footfall.

The Keeper remained kneeling, its vast golden eyes now watching Tyler with quiet, almost reverent stillness. Tyler glanced up one last ti, feeling that sa suffocating weight lift from his chest — but only slightly.

I answered it… but what was the correct answer?

He stepped past the threshold.

The mont he crossed, the world shifted. The air grew denser, colder, as if he had stepped underwater. His ears rang with an echo that wasn’t quite sound — like the lingering mory of a funeral bell.

The corridor stretched before him, lined with countless coffins arranged in symtrical rows. Each coffin was carved from pale sandstone, etched with hieroglyphic markings that pulsed faintly. Many of the lids were sealed tight, but a few sat slightly ajar, hinting at a presence within.

Tyler shivered. “What kind of place… is this?”

As he pressed deeper, a cold, heavy aura pressed against his skin. Every step felt harder, his muscles locking and unlocking as though so invisible force fought to keep him from moving forward.

Finally, the corridor widened, revealing a vast underground hall.

A sea of fine sand covered the floor, undisturbed and smooth as a shroud. Enormous pillars rose up on all sides, each inscribed with shifting, swirling patterns that seed to move when he wasn’t looking directly at them. Shattered ceremonial weapons and tarnished shields lay scattered across the periter, relics of battles lost long before Tyler was even born.

At the far end of the hall, atop a stepped dais of black sandstone, sat a towering throne.

And upon that throne sat a figure.

The creature’s silhouette alone radiated an aura of imperial authority. His body was a fusion of a towering human warrior and a Great Dane, reminiscent of ancient jackal-headed gods. Broad shoulders, muscular arms lined with ridged scars, and a powerful chest that seed carved from living obsidian. His elongated canine snout held an air of grim dignity, while massive, upright ears twitched as if catching every hidden echo.

Two fangs jutted from his upper jaw, gleaming in the pale light, and his molten gold eyes burned with the patience of centuries. In his clawed right hand, he held a long sceptre of black stone fused with bone — at its tip, a crescent blade shimred faintly, as if breathing in the darkness around it.

[Enemy Identified: Thamutekh, Sovereign of the Shifting Sands] [Level 250]

A heavy silence blanketed the room. Tyler’s breath slowed, his heart thrumd painfully inside his ribs. He tried to speak but found his throat dry as sun-baked rock.

Thamutekh shifted slightly on the throne, the movent deliberate and smooth, like an ancient king inspecting a supplicant. His eyes narrowed, assessing every broken line across Tyler’s armour, every tremor in his exhausted fra.

Then, in a voice as deep as a canyon and as dry as a desert wind, Thamutekh finally spoke.

“So… you have finally arrived.”

The words rolled out slowly, every syllable soaked in ancient weight and cold amusent.

“I have watched you from afar, through the echoing sands and the shifting halls of this labyrinth. I have seen your fury, your despair… your struggle to answer a question that was always within you.”

Tyler trembled, sweat sliding down his brow and mixing with blood still dripping from reopened wounds. His fingers clenched unconsciously around his hilts, knuckles whitening.

Thamutekh leaned forward slightly, golden eyes blazing.

“You, who fight to nd what was broken, only to break more. You, who carry guilt heavier than any sword or armour. You wanderer, cursed to carve your path through illusions and regrets alike.”

He paused, a slow, echoing breath vibrating the very sand beneath Tyler’s feet.

“Do you truly think yourself worthy of the essence of the gods? Do you think yourself ready to face the final storm that awaits beyond this labyrinth?”

Tyler tried to raise his voice, but all that erged was a strained, breathless rasp. His mind spun in loops, each thought crashing against another like waves in a storm.

Thamutekh straightened on his throne, gripping his sceptre tightly. The air around the tip of the crescent blade shimred with a sickly, ghostly light.

“I have waited countless centuries for a challenger to step into this sanctum. Soone not driven solely by vengeance, nor guided only by blind righteousness… but soone who carries true conflict within his soul. You are no hero. You are no villain. You are a mirror of this broken world.”

A thin, predatory smile twisted across his long snout, revealing every jagged fang beneath.

“Now… show the truth of your resolve. Prove to whether your ti ends here, swallowed by these sands — or whether you are destined to grasp the keys and face the judgnt that awaits beyond.”

Tyler’s knees shook, every cell in his body screaming to collapse. But sothing deep within — that fragile, defiant spark — refused to extinguish.

Forward… only forward…

He tightened his grip on his blades. Even as terror gnawed at the edges of his mind, he took one staggering step forward, then another.

Thamutekh’s grin widened, and he lifted his sceptre, its ghostly light intensifying.

“Good… you still stand. Let us see if you can do more than that, [Player].”

The sand around the throne began to writhe, snaking across the floor like living rivers. The air grew thicker, almost suffocating, every breath scraping down Tyler’s throat.

Tyler’s heart roared inside him, the echoes of Milo, Miho, and every fallen comrade ringing in his head.

This was it. This was the final threshold of the labyrinth — the edge of the storm he’d been chasing and fleeing all at once.

No illusions. No mirages. Only forward.
