Xiang Nan found a mobile phone on the man's body.
From the "recent contacts" list he dialed the number that appeared most frequently—
no one answered.
"As expected… they've abandoned him."
That was no surprise.
He pocketed both the phone and the wallet, then turned to leave.
Behind him, the KOF player lay on the ground with a scalpel buried in his forehead; not far away the van still burned fiercely, and the shop-owner and staff inside stared at him in terror.
Because these were native KOF players, they knew South Town's layout well.
Even though the combat zone defined by the system was less than two kiloters across, it was a dense downtown district—buildings packed close, crowds thick.
So, even with descriptions of the last two enemies, tracking them down within forty-eight hours would not be easy.
"KOF players have to expel or kill us, but we only have to last forty-eight hours… they should be the anxious ones."
He headed back the way he'd co to rejoin Beishi, all the while watching the blasted skyscraper that stood right on the edge of their battlefield—obviously adjoining another zone.
How many different worlds' players have invaded South Town for this dinsional placent match?
From the driver's confession he now knew there were over 800 players in the KOF world right now, about 200 at Extinction 5 or higher—far more, proportionally, than in Hunter × Hunter.
That was natural: environnt and resources shape player strength.
But cross-world power levels aren't directly comparable.
The launch of the KOF plot was effectively an "open beta"—the formal server opening. Xiang Nan's team, and the others here, were probably the first wave of inter-dinsional intruders.
Judging by the number of enemy squads they'd t, the system had matched at least six or seven teams against KOF natives—hence six or seven battlefields in South Town, each with its own outsiders.
Suddenly a deafening ROAR ripped through the city.
So huge creature was bellowing—far enough away that the sound reached him weakened, yet still oppressive.
Xiang Nan snapped his head toward it, eyes narrowing.
In the distance, between the high-rises, he saw a tiny black speck scuttling and leaping like a gecko. With the Nen technique Gyo he focused aura into his eyes—magnifying the view.
The speck revealed the outline of a human torso—but colossal.
A giant, and it was fleeing.
Boom—boom—boom—
Explosions blossod wherever it landed: soone was shelling it.
"Seventeen!" Beishi, covered in blood, raced up. Police sirens were now wailing; cruisers appeared on the streets.
"Not a place to chat—move."
The two vanished.
…
Thirty minutes later
All four Hunter players gathered on the roof of a sealed-off building.
South Town's authorities were deploying in force; from this height they could see streets clogged with patrol cars and ard officers. Their own battlefield was now cordoned off.
Distant quarters of the city still flashed with artillery fire. South Town had beco a giant war zone.
Xiang Nan shared the intel he'd collected.
"KOF tech is quite advanced—clones, energy weapons. Even we can die under military fire," Beishi said grimly.
They confird at least three hotspots:
1. their original zone;
2. the frozen skyscraper area;
3. the sector where the giant was under bombardnt.
Two other battlefields likely held intruders as well.
"Our dangers are threefold," Xiang Nan sumd up.
"First, native KOF players; second, story characters; third, official military hardware."
Civilian crowds had been cleared; the building they were on had already been searched, then sealed, so for the mont they were safe.
Still, finding the last two enemy players would be hard: the zone was big and full of hiding spots.
"Doesn't matter," Xiang Nan said. "They have the deadline problem; we just survive forty-eight hours."
Beishi added more intel:
In KOF, martial arts schools are everywhere—like their own Heaven's Arena. Many players start by apprenticing to a dojo; entry is easy.
The ice-wielding intruders' origin world was unclear; giants, though, were rarer.
The two quieter teammates offered guesses—One Piece, Attack on Titan, Seven Deadly Sins, Valkyrie Drive—but Xiang Nan cut them off. Too many possibilities, especially if "giant" was rely a technique.
"Those last two enemies are no real threat," he said. "Their tactic is to involve story characters and the army on us. Surviving alone isn't enough; we also need to damage this world and harvest resources, or we won't earn dinsion coins. So waiting it out is pointless."
"Coin farming is optional," he told them. "If you just want to pass the placent, hide till the tir ends. If you want coins—those police down there are walking points. But be warned: once we show ourselves we'll draw not only gunfire but possibly canon characters."
With that, Xiang Nan vaulted off the roof toward another building. Beishi followed instantly.
One teammate hesitated, then chased after them; the last stayed put, choosing caution.
Gliding over rooftops like two night-born phantoms, Xiang Nan and Beishi reconnoitered the police deploynt.
"As intruders our role is to disrupt," Xiang Nan said. "The KOF players have surrendered that job, so we can make a scene. I'm sure others think the sa."
From the neighboring battlefield a chilly mist drifted—evidence of ice powers at work.
"Not just killing—we need to wreck the city itself. The greater the impact, the better. This isn't our world. KOF is our enemy; the more chaos here, the harder its players will grow. Soday they might invade Hunter—better to hobble them now."
He turned icy eyes on the streets below.
"You handle the ground troops. I'll collect their munitions—we'll need them to demolish these buildings later."
"Understood."
The two figures split and lted into the dark.
