"Tell where he is, and I will leave her alone!!."

Eva scread at the parents, making them even tenser than they already were, hoping they would clack and finally spit out any information they had.

But it was useless.

The parents said nothing, they hesitated a little but didn’t let the pain overtake their feelings. So they tried with their might to control themselves , even though they could clearly see what was happening to their daughter as flas burned across her tiny body.

The child’s continuous screams tore through the room, splitting the silence in half. Clearly, the pain caused by the furnace-like heat of the flas was unbearable for her. But she couldn’t jump away or even fight back, because she was still just a child. Her only choice was to keep crying until soone helped her.

But in this case, no one dared to.

From his hiding spot, Jamie looked at Eva with pure anger in his eyes, like he wanted to cut her clean in half. The pain in his body vanished completely, replaced by a predator’s instinct to tear her limb from limb.

Suddenly, the baby stopped crying. Not because she feeling better but because the little life she had was finally squeezed out of her.

Eva threw the baby to the floor like she was so useless object you disposed of after using however you pleased.

They must be telling the truth

But no bother.

I’m not stopping until I find Jamie and get my revenge for killing Greg.

Eva wondered that to herself as if she hadn’t just burned a baby alive a second ago. It was outright inhuman behavior, the kind that made you question whether she still had any instincts left... or any morals at all.

Revenge had completely clouded the way she made decisions.

From a girl who once cared... to a psychopath.

"Alright then, I have to continue my search for him... but let make myself clear. If he cos to you searching for help, you should tell imdiately, or else your baby will not be the only one I’ll be burning."

And with that threat, she opened the door and left the shop.

She did not leave it the sa way she found it.

Because now, death had settled inside it.

Shira’s mother rushed to her corpse, carried her burnt and wounded body into her arms, then hugged her tightly as if she were still alive.

Next to her, Shira’s father kept crying. He tried to hold it in so he could look like he wasn’t crying, because he was a man and still had that kind of mindset, but the tears were just too heavy to keep down.

Jamie finally ca out of hiding.

Unlike the two of them, he wasn’t feeling sorrow.

He was feeling bloodlust.

It covered every part of his soul.

But deep beneath all that burning anger, he knew he was the cause of Shira’s death. If he hadn’t been inside their ho, Shira might not have been killed.

And that guilt piled itself on top of all the other guilty things he had buried deep in his soul.

"I know you think it’s your fault, but it’s not... they were destined to co to us anyway."

The shopkeeper spoke as if he had just read Jamie’s mind.

But no matter how much he wanted Jamie to believe it, Jamie couldn’t accept it.

The guilt was too heavy for words to fix.

Have to do sothing to help... I can’t just leave them like this.

His mind scrambled through different ways to change the situation.

He would’ve used a revival injection, but it only worked on demons.

He would’ve healed her, but healing didn’t work on dead people.

For the first ti in years, he felt cornered again, like the world was teasing him... mocking him.

He had been given the power to help those who needed his assistance, yet right now, he couldn’t do anything about it.

That realization hit him the hardest.

It made him feel small.

As small as an ant.

I can’t really save her... can I?

Suddenly—

Thump!!

A heartbeat.

Not the one people were used to.

Another one.

It sounded deeper.

Heavier.

More ancient.

Thump!!

Red lines began drawing themselves across his skin, his demon form appearing once more.

The sa demon form that, according to past events, always showed up whenever soone was about to be killed... or horribly injured.

But this ti, sothing was different.

The form felt calr now.

Cooler.

As if he was controlling it.

For once, it didn’t feel like the demon form wanted to take over his body.

It felt like it wanted to work together with him.

The experience was wild and instinctive, but Jamie didn’t want to dwell on it, so he brushed it aside like a fly passing over food.

Save the child.

Save the child.

The voice called into his soul.

Every muscle in his body scread the exact sa thing.

The unity of body and soul.

He rushed toward Shira’s mother, who was still sobbing while holding her child.

Their eyes t first.

Then, after Jamie gave her a small nod, she understood what he ant.

He wanted to carry Shira.

She carefully placed the little girl into his hands, and all eyes turned toward Jamie as he held her.

They thought he wanted one last look at her burnt body.

Or maybe he wanted to cry for her too.

But the red lines on his face proved otherwise.

Suddenly, strings of light began appearing around Shira’s body, wrapping around her like a basket woven from light itself. Sweet illusions of beautiful flowers covered her body, and a heavenly glow illuminated Jamie and Shira at the sa ti.

The scene didn’t look like sothing a demon would ever create.

But after a few minutes, the burnt skin began to restore itself.

Her cute face returned.

Even cuter than before.

The burnt blanket around her ca back too, looking even cleaner than it had originally been.

Sohow...

Jamie had revived the baby they all thought was gone.

And now she looked like she was in a deep sleep, as if she hadn’t been crying uncontrollably just a few seconds ago.

"My darling..."

Shira’s mother carried her back into her arms while her husband leaned closer, staring at her with a trembling smile on his face.

"Thank you, Jamie... honestly."

"You don’t need to thank . This is the best I could do after the greatest thing you did for ."

As he replied, a nostalgic feeling hung in his consciousness.

This wasn’t really the best thing he could do for them.

He could send them back to the world of the living.

If he attacked and destroyed the Grid Lions HQ, it would be easy for them to trace him back to this family, which would only drag them into even more danger.

Sothing he never wanted.

At first, he hesitated for a second.

But then he forced himself to speak.

"I’m going to give you a device. Use it to go back to the world of the living and start a new life. Take anyone too who doesn’t want to join this fight. I’m going to try my best to divert their attention so they don’t find out about you."

The heavy words fell on them like rain.

They had just been offered a chance to return to the world of the living after all.

Refusing was out of the question.

Jamie stretched out his hand, and the teleportation device appeared in his palm.

"Take this... it’s the best I can do after everything you did for ."

"Are you really sure you want to leave right now? You haven’t fully recovered yet."

"No matter... how hard could it be to infiltrate the Grid Lions HQ?"

"You’re going to the HQ? What are you thinking? They’ll kill you if they catch you!"

"Let’s just say the payoff is way greater than the risk."

Jamie stretched his body a little as he prepared to leave the shop.

Shira’s mother stood up with Shira still in her arms, hugging her even tighter.

"Please be safe."

"Got it."

Jamie nodded back, then quietly rushed out of the shop.

Heading straight for the Grid Lions HQ.

To destroy the soul orb that powered all of Midworld.
