Chapter 116: Chapter 105: The Dagger is Revealed (2)

Then ca a loud BANG!

Lin Ye and Zhao Defa turned their heads at the sa ti.

Inside a cell made of special tempered glass, a lynx far larger than its normal size was frantically ramming its body against the glass wall.

The fur all over its body stood on end, its eyes were blood-red, and white saliva dripped from the corners of its mouth. It had clearly lost all reason.

Startled by the sudden commotion, Zhao Defa took half a step back, his face paling slightly.

Lin Ye also put on the perfect act of a terrified high school student, his body jolting as if he had been spooked.

Zhang Qi, however, was unfazed by the sight.

"Everything about your work here is absolutely confidential! Do not reveal a single word to anyone, including your family and friends!"

"Otherwise, you will face a lawsuit from the company and an exorbitant compensation claim. Believe , those are consequences you do not want to bear."

His tone suddenly turned severe.

"In the work area, if you encounter researchers from other departnts, avoid them. Do not engage in any unnecessary conversation. Just do your own job and keep your mouths shut."

"Your wristwatches contain a floor plan of the entire research facility, limited only to the areas you have clearance to enter."

"It’s your first ti here, so you might get lost. You can check the map at any ti, but be warned: absolutely do not attempt to go to any area outside your designated work zone. If you are detected, you will be responsible for the consequences."

"Finally, the work system: three rotating shifts, eight hours a day, five days on, two days off. However, there may be mandatory shifts during special periods. Overti will be paid separately."

"There’s a shuttle bus from the facility’s exit every half hour. That is the only way to return to the city center."

After laying out all the rules, Zhang Qi led them to a utility room and pointed to two high-pressure washers and a row of cleaning tools in the corner.

"Your task for today is to clean Area C on Level B3. The area is marked on your maps. You can start now."

With that said, he turned and left without a mont’s hesitation.

...

「Seven days passed in a flash.」

Lin Ye’s life over these seven days was incredibly routine.

At 9:00 AM, he would take the company shuttle to the underground facility.

He would change into a protective suit and begin eight long hours of tedious cleaning work.

At 5:00 PM, he would clock out on ti.

He would first head back to school and, without fail, engage in combat practice with Chen ng in the training room.

These seven days of high-intensity training had made Lin Ye’s spearmanship more skillful, and his Body Technique had also advanced to a whole new level.

From not being able to last three minutes against Chen ng at the beginning, he could now hold on for five or six minutes without being defeated.

「When night fell.」

Lin Ye would once again sneak into the ruined city to kill the Fusion Monsters and raise his level.

The job at Dawn Creatures was easy, the pay was extrely high, and he still had plenty of ti after work to cultivate and improve himself.

An absurd thought even crossed Lin Ye’s mind.

’If he didn’t know what this company was really up to, he might have considered working here for the rest of his life.’

That afternoon, Lin Ye had just finished his hand-off and was about to clock out.

However, Wu Weiping contacted him via the internal comms and told him to co to his office.

Pushing the door open, he saw Wu Weiping sitting behind his desk.

He took a thick manila envelope from a drawer, placed it on the desk, and pushed it over.

"This is your salary for the week. Go ahead and count it."

Lin Ye walked up and took the envelope.

It felt extrely heavy in his hand.

He opened the envelope. Inside was a thick stack of brand-new, 5,000-denomination Alliance currency bills.

Lin Ye quickly counted the money.

There were forty bills in total.

Two hundred thousand!

Lin Ye looked up, a look of shock appearing on his face at just the right mont.

"Mr. Wu, didn’t the contract say the weekly salary was one hundred thousand?"

Wu Weiping leaned back in his chair and smiled. "You worked very hard this week."

"This was the Doctor’s idea. The extra hundred thousand is a bonus for you. Take it. You’ve earned it."

’The Doctor...’

A thought stirred in Lin Ye’s mind.

"The Doctor is...?"

"He is the founder of our entire company and the supre leader of this laboratory."

Wu Weiping explained, his tone laced with a hint of awe.

"His past is a mystery. We don’t even know his real na. He himself almost never leaves the core laboratory on Level B6. We just respectfully call him ’the Doctor.’"

"The Doctor is very interested in you. He said he wants to et you."

’It’s finally happening.’

For the past seven days, Lin Ye had felt that Dawn Creatures was taking too long to unroll its map.

Now, it was finally ti for the dagger to be revealed.

"The coordinates have been sent to your watch. The relevant access permissions have also been temporarily granted to you."

"You should head over there now."

Maintaining an excited expression, Lin Ye nodded emphatically.

"Yes, Mr. Wu!"

Leaving Wu Weiping’s office, Lin Ye expertly made his way to the elevator.

Over the past week, besides working and cultivating, he had used nearly all his free ti to explore this massive underground facility.

The entire underground facility, as far as was known, was divided into six levels.

Level B1 was the underground parking garage and changing area they used to enter and exit.

Level B2 was a massive transitional level.

It housed the armory, the dical bay, and large-scale disinfection and decontamination tunnels.

All security personnel had to return their equipnt and undergo full-body disinfection there after their shifts before they could take the shuttle bus to leave.

His main work area was currently Level B3 and the level below it, B4, both of which were labeled on the map as "General Experintation Zone."

The creatures kept on these two levels were still just ordinary animals used for pharmaceutical testing that had not yet been deeply modified, or individuals in the preliminary stages of mutation.

After all, Dawn Creatures was publicly a genetic pharmaceutical company, so having an animal testing area was perfectly normal.

Because of this, most of the low-level employees like Zhao Defa—even if they sensed sothing was off—kept their mouths shut, lured by the high salary and bound by the terrifying confidentiality agreent.

Or perhaps, those who couldn’t keep their mouths shut had most likely already disappeared from the face of the earth.

But from Level B5 downward, the map was completely black. Lin Ye had never been there.

Below B5, there was another, separate area—B6.

Lin Ye pressed the button for B4.

This elevator could only go as far as Level B4.

The elevator doors opened on Level B4.

Without looking to either side, Lin Ye headed straight for another elevator located in the deepest part of Level B4, as marked on his map.

In front of the elevator stood two exceptionally burly n.

They weren’t wearing protective suits but black, tight-fitting combat fatigues. Their bodies radiated a fluctuation of Qi and Blood as solid as iron.

Both were Martial Artists of the Vein Opening Realm.

"Halt!"

One of them reached out an arm to block Lin Ye, his voice icy.

Lin Ye said nothing, simply holding out his wristwatch.

The large man scanned it with his own watch. After confirming the access permission, he retracted his arm and stepped aside.

"Go on."

The other large man followed Lin Ye directly into the elevator.

The elevator began its descent.

When the red number for B5 lit up, the elevator doors slowly slid open.

The mont the doors opened, an overpowering stench of blood, so thick it was almost tangible, mixed with the acrid sll of energy radiation, frantically assaulted Lin Ye’s nostrils!

At the sa ti, a chaotic dley of bestial roars, filled with frenzy and despair, washed over him like a tsunami!

"Move it! Whatever you see or hear here, you’d best act like it never happened and forget all of it!"

Lin Ye just kept his head down and walked forward.

But out of the corner of his eye, he was rapidly scanning his surroundings.

Lining both sides of the wide alloy corridor were massive cages constructed from ultra-high-strength alloy bars.

Inside the cages were all sorts of horrifyingly twisted and mutated beasts!

Without exception, they all had nurical codes branded onto their bodies.

A thought flashed through Lin Ye’s mind.

’He was now one hundred percent certain.’

’The mutated beasts roaming the ruined city ca from here!’

However, based on his observations over the past few days, the entire underground facility’s security was incredibly tight. Escaping from a place like this should be an impossible task.

’He leaned toward another possibility.’

’Soone was deliberately releasing these mutated beasts periodically into the massive testing ground that was the ruined city.’
