Zhang San touched the bandages covering his face. Thinking about that kid yesterday who’d thrown a brick at him (out of nowhere!), he couldn’t help but feel like punching sothing. He’d been so close to getting away with it, only for a ddleso hero to show up at the last second.

Not only had his face ended up disfigured, but he hadn’t gotten any money either. Luckily, he’d managed to run off in ti—otherwise, if the cops had been called, he’d have been sitting in a cell for sure.

"Better hope I never see that brat again, or I swear I'll make her regret it," Zhang San muttered as he walked along the street. His disheveled appearance made other pedestrians instinctively move away from him. Just as he was about to select a new target, he caught sight of a familiar figure. Wasn’t that the sa brat with the brick? There was no mistaking it.

She seed preoccupied with the little girl next to her and hadn’t noticed him. Even if she had, she wouldn’t have recognized him—Zhang San's face was still wrapped in bandages, after all.

He began trailing them. There were still too many people around for him to make a move; he’d wait until they were in a quieter area. No sense in risking a random do-gooder getting in his way again.

"That kid's pretty good-looking, much better than Xiao Hong," Zhang San muttered as he stared at Ling Ning. Xiao Hong was one of the lowest-tier workers from the nearby red-light district, her figure long past its pri.

Ling Ning strolled along the street, enjoying the breeze. She felt a strange sense of contentnt. With her job situation resolved for now, she couldn't help but let her lips curve upward slightly.

Ling Ye was skipping along ahead, glancing back every so often to make sure Ling Ning was still keeping up, her face glowing with a bright smile.

Seeing Ling Ye’s cheerful expression, Ling Ning's smile widened a bit more. As she looked at the unfamiliar surroundings, she had a curious sense of déjà vu—like she’d seen it all countless tis before, despite it being her first ti here.

Originally, they had planned to take the bus ho, but Ling Ye had suddenly insisted on walking. Ling Ning couldn’t say no to her, so she agreed to the walk. Fortunately, their ho wasn't too far from Qin Qing’s neighborhood. It might be four bus stops away, but there was a shorter route they could walk.

This information ca to her mind as she saw the surrounding landmarks. She led Ling Ye down a secluded alley; from there, it would only be a short walk ho.

Once they got back, she could enjoy a nice hot bath, relax in bed, watch so TV, or maybe write a bit of her novel—then go to sleep later. Since the café didn't open until ten, she didn’t have to worry about being late.

As they turned into the alley, Zhang San's eyes lit up. He’d been following for so long, almost giving up hope of finding an opportunity, but here it was. He quickened his pace and followed them into the alley.

"Stop right there!"

Hearing the shout behind her, Ling Ning turned around. What she saw was an unsettling figure: an old-fashioned wide-brimd hat, face wrapped in bandages, and a pair of bloodshot eyes glaring at her. In his hand was a tal pipe, likely sothing he’d picked up off the side of the road. With a trench coat, he’d look exactly like a resident of old Yharnam.

"Um, can I help you with sothing?" Ling Ning asked. As she spoke, she subtly moved Ling Ye behind her. If things went south, Ling Ye could at least get away. Ling Ye seed to sense sothing was wrong and obediently stayed behind Ling Ning, peeking out curiously.

"You don’t rember , brat? Yesterday? I’m the guy whose head you busted with a brick!" Zhang San yelled in rage.

Small world. Ling Ning hadn’t expected to run into him here. She quickly took stock of her surroundings. The alley was cramped, filled with random junk and garbage. She might have had a chance to escape alone, but with Ling Ye here, running wasn’t an option. It seed she’d have to buy so ti for Ling Ye to escape and then find a way out herself.

She casually picked up a brick from the ground and hurled it at Zhang San. The brick flew in a perfect arc—only to smash into pieces on the ground in front of him.

"Seriously?!" Ling Ning cursed, realizing she’d overestimated her current body’s strength.

Zhang San looked down at the shattered brick in front of him, then laughed loudly. "Did you really think the sa trick would work on twice?"

"Are you a Saint Seiya or sothing?" Ling Ning muttered. She wanted to keep up her banter, but seeing Zhang San charge at her with the tal pipe, she had no choice but to backpedal quickly. As for Ling Ye—she’d already taken off the mont Ling Ning threw the brick.

Ling Ning's small fra was no match for Zhang San’s burly build. Fortunately, her body was flexible, and she managed to dodge most of his swings. But her stamina was fading fast—her legs felt like they were filled with lead. If it weren’t for sheer determination, she’d have been hit already.

"Can’t we just sit down and talk this out? Why do we have to hurt each other?" Ling Ning said while struggling to dodge Zhang San's swings.

"There’s nothing left to talk about!" Zhang San panted, leaning on his tal pipe. This brat was annoyingly good at dodging—he hadn’t landed a single hit.

"Can I at least say one last thing?"

"What?"

Ling Ning smiled faintly. "There’s soone behind you."

Zhang San hesitated for a mont but didn’t turn around. He wasn’t going to fall for that old trick—it was way too outdated... Wait—what?!

Zhang San slowly crumpled to the ground, and Ling Ning sighed, spreading her hands helplessly. "I told you, there’s soone behind you, but you just wouldn’t believe ."
