“Ah, this weather just begs for an ice-cold beer~”
Ling Ning took a satisfied sip of the golden, bubbly liquid in her glass. The familiar flavor made her reluctant to stop.
“Mom, don’t drink too much!”
Ling Ye watched her Mom curiously. She couldn’t understand why Ling Ning enjoyed this strange-slling drink that made her dizzy afterward. Didn’t it feel uncomfortable?
“Don’t worry. Your Mom knows her limits!” Ling Ning replied casually.
Ling Ye rolled her eyes. Knowing her Mom’s “limits” ant nothing when it ca to alcohol. Even if Ling Ning claid to know when to stop, her restraint always disappeared when she started drinking.
Ling Ye didn’t particularly enjoy sharing a bed with her drunken Mom, who had a tendency to get handsy in her sleep, wearing an oddly mischievous expression—like the one Ling Ye had when watching her “study materials.”
Of course, if Ling Ning passed out completely, that was another story.
Xia You glanced at the empty bottles piling up on the table and quietly said, “Ling Ning, you’ve probably had enough. If you keep drinking, you’ll get drunk for sure.”
“Eh!?”
Ling Ning blinked, looking at the remaining beer. She knew she was at her limit but still wanted to drink more. Why was her alcohol tolerance so bad? It was frustrating.
With a longing glance at the leftover beer, Ling Ning sighed and put the bottles in the fridge for later.
As she returned to clean up the table, Ling Ning noticed the pile of empty cans. Only two were hers; the rest were Xia You’s doing.
Turning to Xia You, she asked curiously, “Xia You, how can you drink so much and not get drunk?”
Xia You shook her head lightly. “I don’t know. For so reason, I just don’t get drunk.”
She had only drunk so much because of the stifling heat. To Xia You, the beer was no different from soda—aside from a slight bloated feeling, she felt nothing.
“Is that so~? Well, getting drunk is part of the fun of drinking, even if it’s a bit uncomfortable~”
“Is that how it works?”
Ling Ning laughed, then turned her attention to Ling Ye, who was trying to sneak away. “Ye Ye, aren’t you forgetting sothing?”
Ling Ye froze in her tracks and turned around, feigning innocence. “What? Forgetting sothing? I don’t know what you’re talking about, Mom~”
“Before dinner, who said they’d help wash the dishes? Wasn’t it you, Ye Ye?”
“Eh-heh, did I really say that?” Ling Ye blinked and then darted into her room without another word. She had only ntioned washing dishes on a whim—she hated dealing with greasy things.
Watching her daughter flee, Ling Ning called out angrily, “Ling Ye! You’re slacking off again!”
“Only dogs slack off!”
Technically, Ling Ye hadn’t even started writing her daily quota yet. Could you call that slacking?
Xia You chuckled at their antics and said, “Ling Ning, are you coming to my place to record videos tonight?”
“Recording? Sure, I’ll co over after my bath. But I’m not staying the night!”
“Why not?”
“Because Ye Ye wants to sleep with tonight.”
“Oh, I see. That can’t be helped, then~”
Disappointnt flashed in Xia You’s eyes. She had hoped to spend the night alone with Ling Ning, discussing life and maybe practicing so wrestling moves. But that plan was clearly out.
“You head back first. I’ll take care of things here.”
“Okay.”
After Xia You left, Ling Ning swiftly cleaned up the table and kitchen, then went to check on Ling Ye. She instinctively turned the doorknob but was surprised to find it locked.
Ling Ye never locked her door at ho. Was she up to sothing she didn’t want anyone to see? Or maybe she was watching sothing… unusual?
“Ye Ye, are you in there?” Ling Ning asked while knocking.
“I-I’m here! Wait a second, I’ll open the door!”
Ling Ye’s slightly panicked voice ca from inside, accompanied by the sound of hurried movents.
This only made Ling Ning more suspicious.
Just as Ling Ning was about to knock again, the door opened, reveaLing Ye with a sheen of sweat on her forehead.
“What were you doing in there? Why are you so sweaty?”
Ling Ning asked, stepping into the room. She looked around and nodded in approval. The room was as tidy as ever. It wasn’t just neat—it was almost too neat, giving it an oddly satisfying appearance.
“I was just tidying up. See how clean it is?” Ling Ye puffed out her chest proudly.
“It does look clean. But what about your wardrobe and drawers? You’re not hiding a pile of junk that’ll spill out when opened, are you?”
“O-of course not! My wardrobe is perfectly organized. You can check it yourself, Mom!” Ling Ye replied with feigned confidence, inwardly praying her Mom wouldn’t actually check.
“Forget it. This is your room. As long as it’s clean, I’m satisfied. Go grab your change of clothes—it’s bath ti.”
“Okay, I’ll be right out!”
After Ling Ning left, Ling Ye let out a deep breath of relief. She quickly shut and locked the door again.
Turning to her wardrobe, she cautiously opened it. A pile of items tumbled out, including her “collection”—her Mom’s underwear.
She had been organizing her room and sorting her collection when Ling Ning knocked, startling her into shoving everything into the wardrobe. Thankfully, her Mom hadn’t checked inside. Otherwise, she’d have been dood.
“I’ve accumulated quite a collection without even realizing it…” Ling Ye muttered to herself, looking at the assortnt of items with a mix of pride and embarrassnt.
