“No way~”

Ling Ye rejected the little boy’s confession without a second thought. When he’d asked her to stay after school, she’d assud he wanted to challenge her to a fight or sothing. She hadn’t expected such a boring reason—it left her thoroughly disappointed.

What a waste of ti! Oh, right—Mom was coming to pick her up today. Why should she stick around here any longer?

“Wh-why?” the boy stamred, shocked by the outright rejection. He’d spent so much ti preparing himself, imagining Ling Ye would accept his confession shyly. But what he got was the exact opposite!

Watching the scene unfold, Ling Ning felt a surge of relief. Her daughter had dismissed the confession with such confidence and authority—no wonder she was her daughter!

“I already like soone else, that’s all there is to it. Goodbye!” Ling Ye declared, hopping off the desk, slinging her little backpack over her shoulder, and striding out, leaving the heartbroken boy standing in stunned silence.

As her daughter exited the classroom, Ling Ning quickly walked over and pretended she’d just arrived, giving a small smile as if she’d only been looking around for her daughter. But all she could think about was Ling Ye’s words: My daughter has soone she likes… My daughter has soone she likes…

“Huh?! Mom, what are you doing here?” Ling Ye exclaid, surprised to see her mother waiting right outside the classroom door.

Ling Ning smiled, though it took so effort to keep her expression neutral. “I waited for a while, but you didn’t co out, so I thought I’d check if sothing was up. Everything okay?”

Ling Ye shook her head and hugged her mother’s arm. “Nothing happened. Just a classmate who wanted to talk.”

“Um… Ye Ye, do you really have soone you like?” Ling Ning asked, struggling to keep her tone casual.

“Yup!” Ling Ye replied without hesitation.

Ling Ning’s heart skipped a beat. So my daughter really does like soone… Who could it be? What sort of depraved, shaless fool dared to win over her heart? If I find out, I’ll make them pay!

“Mom’s the person I like best in the world~” Ling Ye added with a smile.

Ling Ning blinked, caught off guard, before asking cautiously, “Um… anyone besides Mom?”

“Nope! I only like Mom, now and forever,” Ling Ye replied with the utmost seriousness.

Hearing her daughter’s response, Ling Ning felt a sense of relief wash over her. Perhaps she’d been overthinking things. After all, at her daughter’s age, could she even understand what love really was? Still, she made a ntal note to keep an eye on such matters in the future.

“Alright, then! You can have whatever you want for dinner tonight. Mom will cook up a feast!”

Ling Ye, a little surprised by her mother’s sudden generosity, didn’t hesitate to list all her favorite dishes. During the past few weeks, her mother had been focused on her college entrance exams, so als had been simple. Now was her chance to indulge!

“Got it~” Ling Ning replied cheerfully, noting down every dish. She knew they wouldn’t be able to finish everything, but she figured they could invite Xia You or her disciple, who was known for their bottomless appetite, to help out. With her disciple around, nothing would go to waste!

“Mom, help dry my hair~”

Ling Ye handed her mother a towel, snuggling into her arms. During exam season, she’d learned to dry her own hair so as not to bother her mom, but now that exams were over, she saw no need to continue. Besides, having her mother do it was way more comfortable—and the perfect excuse to snuggle up close.

“Didn’t you just learn to do it yourself? You’re old enough now—are you planning to make Mom do this for the rest of your life?” Ling Ning teased, though she was already drying Ling Ye’s hair with gentle strokes. She had to admit that drying her daughter’s hair was rather relaxing.

“I do want Mom to do it for the rest of my life~” Ling Ye mumbled softly.

“What was that? You’re mumbling so quietly that Mom can’t hear you,” Ling Ning teased.

“Nothing~” Ling Ye replied, resting her head against her mother’s chest as her hair was gently dried.

“All done. Once your hair dries, it’s bedti—school’s waiting for you in the morning,” Ling Ning said, smiling at her daughter’s freshly dried hair.

“Yes, yes. Mom, you’re such a nag~” Ling Ye replied, though she said it with a hint of affection.

Ling Ning chuckled, shaking her head. She’d heard that sa complaint countless tis by now. The first ti her daughter had called her “naggy,” Ling Ning had felt a pang of sadness, worried that the rebellious phase had co early.

What if my daughter does hit that rebellious phase? she wondered. Having no prior parenting experience, she had no idea how to handle it. And what about the infamous “cringe phase,” when teens start saying all those embarrassingly dramatic things? Just the thought made her cringe herself—though, technically, she didn’t even have the anatomy to cringe.

Ling Ning smiled, shaking away the thought. As long as she kept her daughter away from negative influences—especially that troublemaker Luo Xiaoning—everything would be fine.

Thinking of her morning plans to take Li Si to the café, Ling Ning decided to get so sleep.

She checked on her daughter’s room first but found it empty. Seeing that her daughter’s pillow was also missing, she imdiately knew where Ling Ye had gone.

Sure enough, when she opened her own bedroom door, Ling Ye was lying on her bed, gazing up at her expectantly.

“What are you doing here?”

“Because I want to sleep with Mom… Is that okay?” Ling Ye asked, her eyes sparkling with hope.

With a sigh, Ling Ning climbed into bed beside her daughter. As she felt the cozy warmth of the blankets, she realized that having her daughter sleep with her every night actually didn’t sound so bad—even if it was sumr.

“You know, you’re so clingy with Mom now. What will you do when you grow up?”

“When I grow up? When I grow up, I’ll still sleep with Mom, of course!” Ling Ye replied confidently.

Ling Ning chuckled and said, “Alright, alright. Now go to sleep. If you can’t wake up tomorrow, Mom’s going to have to smack that little butt of yours~”

“Oh, please! Mom would never do that. I’m Mom’s good little girl~”

“Yes, yes, Ye Ye is the best little girl~”
