The mont their bodies leapt out of the window, the black sky collapsed. They were swallowed by a black sea. They tried to swim upwards until they broke the surface. Gao Ming opened his eyes, and a sharp jolt of pain ca from the back of his neck. He scratched his neck.
“He’s awake?!”
“The main protection target is awake!”
“His vitals are stable! The brain connection is stabilising!”
“Don’t move! We’ll help you!”
Many voices entered Gao Ming’s ears. Soon, the helt and the safety vehicles he wore were removed. Gao Ming saw Tang Qing’s annoying face. Tang Qing was already in his research uniform. With his glasses, he appeared even more annoying.
“I knew sothing was wrong with you!” Gao Ming resisted the urge to punch him. He looked around and realised he was still in the car. The brain ga started the mont they got in the car.
“Congratulations on passing the test. You’re now official beta testers for Immortal Pharma’s brain realm ga,” Tang Qing and the workers around him smiled. However, it didn’t cover the shock in their eyes.
Xu Deyi, beside Gao Ming, also removed the helt. He still hadn’t woken up. This showed how different Gao Ming was. Most people needed at least an hour to assimilate into real life after leaving the ga. However, Gao Ming’s ability to adapt to different worlds was astonishing.
“What about the testers who died in the nightmare?” Gao Ming stared at Tang Qing coldly. This man was a jerk and a liar.
“They are still recovering.” Tang Qing pointed out the window. “We’ll use our thods to make them forget everything that happened to them in the nightmare.”
“That is quite shaless.” Gao Ming’s comnt froze the smile on Tang Qing’s face. However, he quickly brushed it away. After all, they had done much worse to the testers.
“In any case, welco to the group.” Tang Qing helped support Gao Ming in getting out of the car.
The underground lab was split into different zones. A lot of workers and AI robots were milling about. Gao Ming saw the other testers. They were lying on the beds. They wore different kinds of tallic helts. Their brains were connected to a large jar with a brain inside.
“What is that?”
“The brain of a death-row inmate.” Tang Qing waved around to show the number and information on the jar, “A lot of prisons donate the brains of their inmates to us to help in our research.”
“Is it a moral donation?” Gao Ming didn’t believe Tang Qing. The nightmare he just experienced belonged to a young girl. Therefore, the brain in the jar probably didn’t co from a prisoner but from an innocent girl.
“Everything is for the sake of humanity’s future.”
After Xu Deyi ca to his senses, Tang Qing led the two to an isolated room. There were two new black bands and two new uniforms on the table. “You better keep the bands on. They have your ID. If you encounter any issues in Xin Lu, you can contact us through the bands. Immortal Pharma only needs one thing from you. Do not reveal any information about the tests! Once we discover that you’ve violated that rule, you will not only face a lot of serious legal issues but we’ll also be given the freedom to operate on your brains. This clause is written in the contracts you signed before you started the test.”
Gao Ming and Xu Deyi’s faces darkened. They didn’t read the small print of the contract, which was 17 pages long.
“We have a lot of tests in Xin Lu. They are categorised along to confidentiality levels. Since you two just ca out of a middle-layer nightmare, you have higher clearance than most newbies. You can join brain realm tests that are under level three.” Tang Qing smiled, “Don’t look so sad. Check your bank accounts. Immortal Pharma treats its employees very well.”
“2000? I almost died in there, and you gave 2000?!” Xu Deyi grabbed Tang Qing by his collar.
“The calculation of the photon supercomputer is very accurate. Since you only got 2000, it ans you are only worth 2000.” Tang Qing was confused too. Normally, one would get more than ten thousand once they exited a middle-layer nightmare.
Tang Qing’s band vibrated. Tang Qing’s face changed after he checked it. He led Gao Ming and Xu Deyi to another room. There was a nutrient tank in the other room. The silly brother Gao Ming saw in the nightmare was lying inside. His head was also connected to the jar of the brain.
“How is he awake too?” Tang Qing was confused.
“What happened to him and his little sister?” Gao Ming demanded to know.
“Didn’t you find out in the nightmare? The adoptive parent’s house burned down. His little sister died in the fire. When the cook rescued the silly brother, he was already unconscious. To save him, we injected his consciousness into the cook’s brain realm.” Tang Qing shook Gao Ming off. “This shows that our treatnt is effective. You can see the results in yourself.”
The silly man had no na. Everyone who participated in his treatnt called him Silly. Eventually, that beca his na. The workers busied themselves around Silly. Gao Ming walked silently from the side. Soon, his eyes were grabbed by a large monitor.
The monitor played a strange scene. Rows of nutrient tanks were subrged in a black lake. Everyone in the tanks was punctured with pipes.
Gao Ming slowly approached the monitor. His gaze was fixed on one tank. He stared at the face. It had appeared in his nightmare before!
“That is our level five secret lab. Every tester who participates in it is humanity’s hero.” A worker who was over 50 suddenly appeared behind Gao Ming.
“What is that man’s na?” Gao Ming didn’t turn back as he stared dumbly at the man inside the tank.
“His na is Wan Jie. He’s the first hero to enter the deep layer nightmare from Xin Lu Immortal Pharma Brain Realm Developnt Departnt. He is also the first hero to send a ssage back from the deep layer nightmare.” The old man rubbed his glasses like he was reminded of so sad things. “But he hasn’t awakened in a long ti already.”
