The sll of decay clung to the air like a heavy fog. The ZETU team stood shoulder-to-shoulder in the middle of an ancient, narrow street. The moon hung low in the night sky, its pale light illuminating an endless swarm of undead pushing forward with grotesque determination. The sound was deafening: groans, gnashing teeth, and the shuffle of rotting limbs on cracked pavent.
"Everyone, hold your ground!" Captain Marcus Kane roared, his voice cutting through the chaos. His shotgun barked again and again, but each zombie that fell was imdiately replaced by two more.
Sergeant Jenna "Blaze" Hart's flathrower roared to life, casting the narrow alley in an orange glow. The front ranks of the horde ignited, filling the air with thick, acrid smoke. "They just keep coming, Cap!" she shouted. "I've never seen a swarm this thick!"
Riley "Quick Shot" Bennett, perched on a rickety second-story balcony, took deep, calculated breaths. Her sniper rifle's retort was a steady rhythm, each shot finding its mark in the skulls of the advancing undead. "I'm running out of ammo here," she called over comms. "And they're moving faster than usual. Sothing's not right."
Below, Detective Lila "Huntress" Navarro sprinted along the edges of the chaos, her twin pistols blazing. She ducked into the shadows of a crumbling doorway, her sharp eyes scanning the street. "It's the sa pattern," she said into her mic. "This isn't just a random swarm. They're being herded... but by what?"
Ethan "Brain" O'Connor's voice buzzed through their earpieces. "I'm running scans now. There's a massive energy surge about fifty ters ahead of you, past the horde. It's off the charts—whatever's controlling them, it's there."
Kane glanced at Derek "Shield" Coleman, who stood like an immovable wall at the front, his reinforced riot shield braced against the press of bodies. "Shield, we need a breach. Blaze, cover him."
"On it," Shield grunted. He lowered his head and surged forward, pushing the undead back with raw strength. Blaze moved alongside him, sweeping arcs of fire that cut through the horde like a scythe.
The team advanced slowly, carving their way toward the source of the disturbance. As they moved, the swarm grew denser, the zombies' movents becoming almost frenzied. The team's breaths ca hard and fast, sweat mixing with ash and blood.
Then, they saw it. At the end of the alley, a pulsating, grotesque mass of flesh and machinery lood. Wires snaked out of it, connecting to the horde like puppet strings. The creature's face—or what passed for one—was split by a jagged grin.
"Target sighted," Kane said grimly. "Quick Shot, give us an opening. Huntress, you're on infiltration."
Quick Shot fired, her bullet severing a critical wire. The mass scread, the sound splitting the night.
As the horde hesitated, Huntress slipped through the chaos. Her goal was clear: destroy the monstrosity and end the tide. The team braced for the fight of their lives.
