Zara's boots crunched against the cold stone floor as she slipped free from the Reapers' clutches. She'd done it—escaped. A bloody ss of guards lay sprawled behind her, their weapons stripped and useless in her wake. The fortress was alive with alarms now, red lights flashing like angry warnings. Zara barely flinched as the sirens wailed.

Your next journey awaits at My Virtual Library Empire

She moved like a shadow through the corridors, her fitted red sweater dress and leather harnesses hugging her fra as she crouched low, pistol in hand. Her sharp black hair frad her face, an edge of determination glinting in her eyes. Every breath she took was calm, steady—Zara Kincaid was back in control.

The Warden thought he could break her.

He couldn't have been more wrong.

A shout echoed down the hallway. "She's in the south wing! Lock it down!"

Zara ducked into a side alcove just as a patrol stord past. Her tactical holster grazed her thigh as she checked her ammunition. Two clips left. Not ideal, but it would do.

She exhaled and leaned out from her cover, eyes narrowing. The path to the compound's main gate was blocked. Guards clustered at every choke point, weapons raised. They were expecting her to break.

Instead, she smiled faintly.

They didn't know her at all.

With swift precision, Zara darted into the open, her boots a blur as she sprinted low across the corridor. A Reaper saw her just too late. Zara's handgun barked twice—two perfect shots—and the Reaper dropped like a stone. The others scrambled, firing wildly, bullets ricocheting off stone walls. Zara dove behind a fallen crate, adrenaline burning through her veins.

Think. Plan. Execute.

She spotted a maintenance hatch to her left, partially hidden behind debris. Wasting no ti, Zara shot out the lock and kicked it open. She slid through the narrow space, landing hard in a hidden underground tunnel. The darkness swallowed her whole, but it didn't matter. Zara knew how to navigate shadows.

The tunnel stretched ahead, lit faintly by leaking moonlight from rusted vents. Sowhere above, she heard muffled voices. The Warden was probably furious, barking orders. She could imagine his expression—cold, angry, afraid. Good.

As Zara reloaded her weapon, her mind whirred with thoughts of the prisoners she'd seen earlier. Hollow-eyed survivors—her people. This wasn't just about her anymore. The Reapers had crossed a line.

And Zara was going to burn it all down.

Climbing through a final vent, she erged in the compound's outer courtyard. Guards patrolled with floodlights sweeping the snow-covered ground, but Zara was already moving. Silently, she took one down, then another, like a ghost in the night.

When she finally reached the edge of the electrified fence, Zara set a small explosive charge from her belt.

"Ti to light up the night," she muttered, pressing the detonator.

The explosion ripped through the compound with a thunderous roar, cutting power and plunging everything into chaos. Zara slipped through the breach, the icy wind biting her skin as she disappeared into the dark forest beyond.

The Reapers would hunt her.

Let them try.

Zara Kincaid was free—and she was just getting started.
