Zara pressed her back against the jagged wooden wall, her breaths slow and asured. The air was thick with the scent of decay, the rotting remnants of a long-abandoned structure surrounding her. She peeked through a crack, her sharp eyes scanning the dimly lit corridor ahead. Faint footsteps echoed, each one deliberate, thodical.

Her instincts scread danger. Whoever was approaching was no mindless drone or shambling zombie. This was a hunter—intelligent, calculated, and lethal.

Zara gripped her silenced pistol, its weight reassuring in her hand. She adjusted the strap of her red dress, which now clung to her like a second skin, dirtied from the day's relentless battles. She couldn't afford to make noise or leave any trace of her presence.

The footsteps grew louder. Zara shifted her position, slipping silently into the shadows of a splintered doorway. The figure erged into view—a tall, armored rcenary wielding a high-powered rifle. His visor glowed faintly green, scanning the environnt with thermal precision.

Zara's heartbeat slowed, her training kicking in. She counted his steps, timing her move perfectly. Just as he passed her hiding spot, she struck.

Her blade sliced through the air, aiming for the joint in his armor. The rcenary reacted with uncanny speed, twisting to block her strike. The clang of tal against tal reverberated through the narrow corridor.

"Impressive," the rcenary said, his voice distorted by his helt. "But you're outmatched."

Zara smirked. "We'll see about that."

She ducked under his swing, her movents fluid and precise. Her pistol barked twice, the silenced shots aid at his exposed neck. He stumbled, the impact staggering him, but his armor absorbed most of the damage.

He lunged at her, his gauntleted fist smashing through the wall as Zara dodged. The force of the blow sent debris flying, but she used the chaos to her advantage. Sliding behind him, she drove her knife into the power pack on his back. Sparks erupted as the rcenary roared, his systems faltering.

"You've got guts," he snarled, spinning around and grabbing her wrist. Zara gritted her teeth as his grip tightened, threatening to snap the bones.

But she was faster. Using her free hand, she yanked a flashbang from her belt and activated it. The small device detonated with a blinding light and deafening bang, disorienting him. Stay updated through My Virtual Library Empire

Zara wasted no ti. She flipped over him, landing with feline grace, and delivered a powerful kick to the back of his knee. He collapsed, his rifle clattering to the floor. In one swift motion, she retrieved it and aid it at his head.

"Who sent you?" she demanded, her voice cold and unyielding.

The rcenary chuckled, even as blood trickled from the corner of his mouth. "You think you've won? This is just the beginning."

Before Zara could respond, he bit down on sothing—a cyanide capsule. His body went limp, the glow of his visor fading.

Zara cursed under her breath, lowering the rifle. Whoever had sent this man was serious. She glanced at the insignia on his armor—a symbol she didn't recognize but knew she would have to uncover.

"Ga on," she muttered, disappearing back into the shadows of the ruins.
