Charlotte lightly pressed her red lips together, looking at the man’s eyes that had turned cold, and bowed her head gently saying, "Can’t I have my own personal space?"
"I see you’re becoming more and more presumptuous."
His tone worsened.
Even this rare small rebellion was hard for this man to tolerate.
Charlotte didn’t know what his expression would be if she refused his advances in the future.
But she knew they would eventually reach this step. Separation was just the beginning; she needed an independent personality, and not just to be a dodder vine relying on him to survive.
Charlotte bowed her head, "I want to have my own room, my own hobbies, and my own friends."
"..."
"I don’t want my life to be left with just you."
As soon as she finished speaking, Robert Stephens pushed her away.
Charlotte fell onto the sofa beside her, watching as Robert Stephens picked up a bathrobe and put it on. The man didn’t say anything, but Charlotte could feel the invisible anger emanating from him.
When Robert Stephens left the room, Charlotte moved her lips but still didn’t call out to him.
Sitting alone on the quiet room’s sofa, she glanced at the hairdryer not yet put away in the drawer and let out a gentle sigh.
She didn’t want to repeat the sa mistakes. If making Robert Stephens angry could end her life at the Stephens family sooner, it wouldn’t be a bad thing.
She spent the first quiet and lonely evening of her life.
Early the next day, when Charlotte woke up, Robert Stephens had already left.
This was sothing that rarely happened.
So when she went downstairs for breakfast, the maids quietly ca over to persuade her.
"Miss Smith, don’t make the young master angry, okay? We’ll help you bring the quilt back."
"Yes, yes, the young master didn’t even have breakfast this morning."
"What if he gets a stomach illness?"
"Yes, why don’t you take breakfast to the young master after you’ve eaten?"
"We’ll prepare a lunchbox for you!"
"Let’s do that!"
...
Charlotte, quite annoyed, pushed them away: "Stop it!"
She frowned, looking a bit displeased. The maids exchanged glances and then dispersed quietly, exercising restraint.
It still made her sigh a little to hear that Robert Stephens had left without even having breakfast.
Why is this man being so childish now, causing trouble without needing to harm himself?
*
A long-lasting cold war unfolded between Robert Stephens and Charlotte.
He used to co back to the Stephens house every night, but now he rarely returned to his residence. Occasionally, if he ca back and bumped into her, he ignored her, took off his suit under the care of the maids, and then went upstairs directly.
Completely treating her as if she were invisible.
Gradually, the maids at ho also realized she had fallen out of favor. Rumors even spread outside, saying that Robert Stephens had t a beautiful lady, and the parties he attended these days were accompanied by this lady as his partner.
After trying several tis to persuade Charlotte with no response, the maids could only give up, gathering together to shake their heads and sigh — their Miss Smith was not soone who fought for affection.
How n love the new and hate the old, never seen soone pushing their own man away.
The maids didn’t expect that not only did Charlotte not realize her mistake, but she even began looking for work.
Unable to enroll in school because Robert Stephens wouldn’t let her, she found a part-ti job at a flower shop in a mall half an hour’s drive from the Stephens family, planning to be self-reliant for a while.
She didn’t want to be left without a survival skill after Robert Stephens kicked her out.
