She was no match for that man. Even though she knew he was the one responsible for her family’s downfall, she couldn’t harm a hair on his head.

Edward Stephens’s return ti was unpredictable. Daisy Ginger lingered upstairs for half an hour and still didn’t hear the sound of his car. It wasn’t until Charlotte Smith ca to knock on the door personally that she had to go open it.

"If you’re waiting for the second young master to return, you might be disappointed," Charlotte said, looking at her. "The second young master has a eting tonight; he might return very late."

Daisy heard the underlying ssage and couldn’t help but smile, "It seems your master really wants to see today."

Otherwise, he wouldn’t deliberately delay Edward’s return.

"Please," Charlotte didn’t explain, only stepped aside to motion for Daisy to leave with her.

This ti, Daisy found no excuse, smiled, and followed her out the door.

Robert Stephens’s residence was quite far from where Daisy lived.

Charlotte hadn’t driven over either. The two of them walked for over half an hour before seeing Robert Stephens’s patch of lush bamboo forest.

It was Daisy’s first ti visiting his ho.

Robert Stephens’s residence was not luxurious; in fact, it was sowhat rustic, yet it was very serene. As she walked there, she saw barely any servants, which contrasted with his reportedly extravagant appearance.

"The master doesn’t like noise. When you go over, don’t argue with him, just listen carefully to his teachings,"

Charlotte walked briskly. As they trod the cobbled path surrounded by dense bamboo, her voice grew softer, almost out of habit.

"Why do you call him ’Master’? Isn’t he your fiancé? Is that so kind of interest between you two?"

Charlotte paused, turned to glance at Daisy, and explained in a calm, unruffled tone, "He is my teacher. He’s taught a lot about how to conduct myself in life."

Daisy smiled, actually not very interested. Looking at the corner of a small house erging in the distance, she felt a slight tension and couldn’t help but find sothing to say.

Her lips curled up, but there was no smile in her eyes. Charlotte seed to notice her mood and softly said, "The master wants to see you today regarding the second young master and your marriage. Just speak honestly, there’s no need to be nervous."

Daisy looked at the villa not far away and softly asked, "Do you think he would really agree to Edward and I having a wedding ceremony?"

Robert Stephens didn’t think much of her; otherwise, he wouldn’t have previously let Charlotte co over and try to get her to divorce Edward.

But Edward was too stubborn, forcing Robert to compromise a little.

Now, allowing her to live in the Stephens family without an official status was already Robert’s biggest concession. How could he possibly...

Allow Edward to introduce her to the elders, announcing to the world that she is his wife.

Charlotte looked at her, slowly blinking. Her pupils were a lovely honey color, though they seed a bit dull in the sunlight.

She softly said, "As long as the second young master is willing, he can do anything for you."

Daisy was slightly taken aback.

Charlotte had already looked away. She bowed her head and softly said, "Miss Ginger, the second young master has sacrificed more for you than you can imagine. Please do not let him down."

"He tries hard to get closer to you. This is also his first ti dating in his life. Maybe his approach was wrong at first, but his feelings for you are genuine. If he could, he truly doesn’t want to hurt you."

"If you give up on him, you might never et another man who loves you as much as the second young master does in this lifeti."

...

Daisy was mildly shocked for a mont.

It wasn’t until Charlotte spoke to her, saying, "Let’s go," that she gradually snapped back to reality.

Daisy asked, "Don’t you get jealous of being with him?"

Charlotte walked ahead, her voice gentle, "I am not in a position to."

Not in a position to be jealous, or not in a position to be with him?

Daisy didn’t have ti to voice the question.

Because they had arrived at Robert Stephens’s villa.

The air carried a faint sandalwood scent, the fragrance on Robert Stephens’s clothes. Daisy looked up at the door, lowered her gaze, and followed Charlotte inside.

Her first impression upon entering was that it felt stifling inside.

And hot.

The doors and windows were all closed, the air filled with the scent of rich incense. With no breeze, the sll was pervasive, like a snake slithering into her pores.

The heavy perfu triggered a wave of goosebumps on Daisy’s skin.

This scent wasn’t unpleasant, but associating it with Robert Stephens’s na inevitably brought a chill.

"Master, Miss Ginger is here."

Charlotte walked over to stand by the couch and spoke softly to the man resting there. Her voice was cautious, carrying an involuntary respect and fear.

In the early sumr, Robert Stephens was wrapped in thick blankets. His eyes opened, face pale as porcelain, without a drop of sweat, cold and icy, as if carved from jade.

When he saw her, he smiled faintly, then waved her over.

"Co over. Let’s talk."

The tone was affectionate.

Truth be told, his features were indeed handso. When he smiled, it was as refreshing as a spring breeze, making people feel warm. Even Daisy, who knew his true nature well, found herself a bit entranced by his refined smile, unable to imagine how charming he must have been before he beca disabled.

She silently walked over and sat before Robert Stephens, watching as Charlotte poured tea for both of them, then left the room.

As the large door shut once more, the room beca airtight again, enveloped by the fragrant aroma. The man extended a hand as pale as white jade, took a sip of tea, then softly said, "I hear you’re planning the wedding ceremony with Edward. He hasn’t ntioned anything to , so I had to ask you."

Daisy looked up at the man’s faintly smiling face. Holding a blue porcelain cup, his smile was vague, revealing no deep emotions.

"What does Mr. Stephens an?" Daisy began softly, "Do you wish for Edward and I to have a wedding?"

For so reason, Robert Stephens laughed. Leaning back on the couch, toying with the small cup in his hand, his darkly colored eyes fixated on Daisy.

"If I say no, then to spite , you’d definitely agree to the wedding plans with Edward. And if I say yes," Robert slowly set the teacup down, gazing at Daisy, speaking softly, "you probably wouldn’t believe it."

...

Hearing the word "spite," Daisy’s muscles tensed, and she clenched her hand tightly.
