Watching Rivers’s deanor, Monty ng couldn’t help but curse internally.
He was anxious; he needed to go and support his lord. However, without defeating Rivers, he couldn’t leave. This only fueled his impatience.
He had fought countless battles, large and small, but this was the first ti he had faced an opponent like this. Rivers was as slippery as an eel, refusing to engage directly. It felt like Monty ng was punching cotton.
While kiting Monty ng around, Rivers surveyed the battlefield. The situation remained relatively even. All the major forces—the Arican wizards, the French, the Germans, and the other nations—were concentrated here. Though outnumbered by Monty ng’s army, their magical strength was roughly equal.
All Rivers needed to do was stall.
So, no matter what Monty ng shouted, Rivers ignored him. Achieving his objective was all that mattered!
The two circled each other, wasting precious ti. Finally, Monty ng roared, "Damn it, are all the Cavendish family mbers like this? Your master is a coward, so he raised a cowardly subordinate!"
To Monty ng’s surprise, Rivers suddenly stopped.
His face turned cold. "You dare insult the Cavendish family? You dare insult my master?"
Monty ng was stunned. It seed he had underestimated the loyalty of this burly man.
Rivers’s pupils dilated, turning a faint red. A killing intent rose around him as he walked toward Monty ng.
"You can call a coward. But you shouldn’t speak ill of my master. What right do you have? Your era is over. The current era belongs to Lord Erwin! Even the Dark Lord is like starlight before the moon in comparison!"
With every word, Rivers’s aura surged. His eyes were now bloodshot, like a demon crawling from hell. Monty ng had touched Rivers’s true weakness.
Monty ng watched him approach, brow furrowing. The burly man seed to be undergoing a transformation.
On the sea, far from the battlefield, Erwin and Emperor Zheng Qin observed the scene. Emperor Zheng Qin looked at Erwin.
"It seems I underestimated your control over your family. Your subordinates are very loyal."
Erwin looked at Rivers. Yes, he was. Erwin had never doubted that.
Emperor Zheng Qin didn’t mind Erwin ignoring him. In fact, he hadn’t expected a reply. He understood the burly man’s current state: Rivers was overdrawing his magical energy. He intended to use his life to defend the Cavendish honor.
Rivers was no match for Monty ng in a direct confrontation, so he concentrated all his magic—along with the power Erwin had bestowed upon him—into a short, violent burst. It placed an imnse burden on his body and had no sustainability, but it was his only chance.
On the battlefield, Rivers and Monty ng began their duel. It seed out of place amidst the chaos, as the two were engaged in hand-to-hand combat.
Rivers appeared simple and honest, but he was incredibly experienced. His physique had always been strong, and Erwin had taught him the body-strengthening thods of the West. While he couldn’t match Monty ng physically, he was far stronger than the average wizard.
In addition to his fists, Rivers attacked Monty ng with silent, non-verbal spells. For a mont, he actually managed to suppress Monty ng, forcing him to passively defend.
However, with his rich combat experience, Monty ng quickly discovered Rivers’s weakness.
On the sea, Emperor Zheng Qin saw it too.
"So, he’s burning his energy for a burst?" Emperor Zheng Qin mused. "But how long can it last? Monty ng isn’t a mindless brute. Erwin, it seems you chose the wrong opponent."
Erwin remained silent, watching Rivers with a complex expression.
Monty ng remained unhurried, simply defending and silently counting the seconds. He was calculating the exact mont Rivers’s energy would run out.
Rivers seed unaware, continuing his all-out attack. Punch after punch landed, but Monty ng dodged swiftly. After a hundred moves, Monty ng noticed the attacks weakening.
A glint flashed in his eyes.
Ti’s up.
Monty ng stomped his foot. Instead of defending, he charged. He took a step forward, and the longsword he had tossed aside flew automatically into his hand.
He thrust the sword directly at Rivers.
Rivers reacted quickly, conjuring a Shield Charm with a wave of his hand. The longsword struck the magical shield, producing a sharp clang.
Then, the shield shattered instantly.
Rivers staggered back.
"Your burst of power has passed," Monty ng said, his hands moving without pause. "I thought you had so strategy, but you’re just a reckless brute. You used everything you had right from the start."
His longsword slashed repeatedly at Rivers. The roles of offense and defense reversed; Rivers was now on the defensive. Monty ng wasn’t rushing. He thrust his sword rhythmically, like slowly boiling a frog, gradually wearing down Rivers’s last bit of strength.
