Kenley didn't care what Darren said. The mont he saw the chocolate in Darren's hand, his eyes lit up. He lunged forward, snatched it, and stuffed it into his mouth.
A rare treat, he thought.
But as soon as he bit down, sothing felt off.
Why did it taste… floral? And earthy?
He froze.
Wait. Had this thing fallen on the ground?
"Yuck!" Kenley gagged and spat it out. "Darren, you bastard! You gave dirt to eat! I'll kill you!"
Kenley's gang rushed at him, fists clenched.
Darren blinked. If this guy actually hits that hard, I might go flying.
But seriously—was Kenley that stupid? Did he really think Darren was just going to stand there?
Of course not. Darren was ready to dodge—until he noticed soone standing just behind him.
A man. Tall, pale, dressed all in black, with a cold, pained expression—as if he didn't quite belong in this world.
Oh, co on, Darren groaned internally. Of all the spots in the garden, he had to stand right behind ?
If he dodged now, Kenley would slam straight into the guy.
Darren hesitated.
Then sighed. Well… sorry, random stranger. Every man for himself.
[Ding! System has detected a Holy Father opportunity nearby.]
[Temporary Task: Close your eyes, cover your face, and shout in a frightened tone—"Sir, look out! Be careful!"]
[Reward: Half-Ford Obscurus (controlled with Holy Father Points). Accept task?]
"Accept!" Darren said imdiately.
An Obscurus! That was a rare and deadly form of dark magic—raw, unstable energy that destroyed its host from within. Normally, anyone possessed by it wouldn't live past ten.
But the System wouldn't kill him right?. Probably.
Even a half-ford Obscurus was a life-saving trump card. In the Harry Potter world, danger was everywhere—this was practically free insurance.
Taking a deep breath, Darren did as the system instructed.
He closed his eyes, put his hands in front of his face, and shouted, voice trembling dramatically,
"Sir! Get out of the way! Kenley's coming—be careful!"
[Ding! Task complete. Reward acquired: Half-Ford Obscurus.]
[The Half-Ford Obscurus may be summoned using Holy Father Points. One thousand points = one minute of control.]
[The full Obscurus form can be obtained through later missions.]
A thousand Father Points?! Darren gawked. He didn't even have one yet.
Still, it was sothing to look forward to. And one minute was plenty to kill—or save—soone if it ca to that.
anwhile, Kenley was charging full-speed at them. Darren froze, pretending to be terrified, standing protectively in front of the man.
Snape—though Darren didn't yet know his na—was montarily stunned. In his eyes, for just a second, that red-haired boy in front of him overlapped with soone else.
A girl
Strong, brave, and kind.
The one he had loved all his life.
"No…" Snape whispered hoarsely. "No, I won't let anyone hurt you again!"
He whipped out his wand, his face twisted in anguish, and shouted an incantation.
A blinding light flashed—Kenley was lifted off the ground and thrown several ters back, hitting the dirt with a sickening thud.
Darren opened his eyes just in ti to see Kenley lying motionless, blood slowly pooling beneath his head.
"...Shit."
He barely heard the man behind him mutter a curse before a blur of black swept past. Snape knelt beside Kenley, wand in hand, moving with controlled panic.
Then a bright, silvery figure burst from his wand—a Patronus.
A stag, glowing and ethereal, filled the garden with calm light.
Darren stared, wide-eyed. He'd only seen this in movies before.
"Patronus Charm…" he murmured.
Snape was speaking quickly, his voice tight.
"Dumbledore… Darren… Muggle injured… St. Mungo's…"
Darren didn't catch the rest, but he understood enough.
So the man was a wizard. Not just any wizard—that wizard.
Professor Severus Snape.
The double agent.
The man who could glare soone into losing house points from across the corridor.
Darren's brain scrambled to process it all. He'd just t a major character—and apparently saved him, too.
Well… kind of.
He rembered hearing Snape shout sothing about "not letting her get hurt again."
Her.
Wait a minute. Did Snape just mistake him for Lily?
Darren blinked. "But… I'm a guy."
Still, if Snape's trauma was that deep, maybe the man just saw what he wanted to see.
Darren decided not to comnt.
The last thing he needed was an angry Snape throwing an Avada Kedavra out of misplaced emotion.
[Ding! New Holy Father opportunity detected.]
[Temporary Task: Approach Kenley and ask anxiously, "Sir, will Kenley be all right?"]
[Reward: 100 Holy Father Points. Accept task?]
"Accept," Darren said quickly.
A hundred points were a hundred points.
He blinked twice, activating the Heart of the Shadow Emperor. His eyes reddened as if from tears. Then he rushed forward, kneeling beside Kenley's unconscious body.
His voice trembled. "Sir, is Kenley going to be okay?"
[Ding! Task complete. Reward: 100 Holy Father Points.]
Snape looked down at him—this pale, worried boy who had every reason to be relieved instead of afraid.
There was no trace of mockery or satisfaction in Darren's eyes. Only genuine worry.
For a mont, Snape's breath caught.
So much like her.
"He'll be fine," Snape said quietly.
