Chapter 697: Chapter 667: The Assistant Sent by the Ministry of Magic (2)

"In fact," she continued, "these two are the Aurors sent by the Ministry of Magic to teach you Defence Against the Dark Arts, your new professors."

"Assist... Professor McGonagall, we’re just assisting Mrs. Umbridge, we’re not really professors," Tonks emphasized. It was clear that she didn’t want to take on the title of professor.

But Professor McGonagall didn’t say anything, just nodded her head.

"I know what you’re all thinking." At this mont, Tonks went on, "My Disguise class is not going to take up your weekends; it’ll be held during your regular Defense Against the Dark Arts class. I’m just here on behalf of the Ministry of Magic to deliver so things to Hogwarts, and thought I’d take the chance to et you all."

Upon hearing that the Disguise class wouldn’t take up their weekends, a few people imdiately breathed sighs of relief and greeted Tonks with enthusiasm.

I have to say, for an Auror who only just graduated, Tonks really understood these students... almost as well as she knew herself.

Tonks looked around at the people in front of her, and finally her eyes settled on Kael. She winked at him—he was the only one she was familiar with here.

Next, Teckros continued to speak.

"So of you may know that Apparition is not normally allowed at Hogwarts. But in order for you to learn this magic, Headmaster Dumbledore has temporarily lifted the restriction for one hour—but only within this auditorium.

"I must remind everyone, absolutely do not try to move outside the walls or you’ll be in big trouble.

"Now I need everyone to stand in place and leave at least five feet clear in front of you."

Everyone sprang into action imdiately.

Once everyone was in place, Teckros waved his wand and a vintage wooden hoop appeared on the floor in front of each student.

"This is your target." He began to explain in detail what to watch out for when learning Apparition.

Kael listened for a while and found it was pretty much the sa as what Chris had taught him... but that made sense—maybe Chris had learned it from Teckros, of course it was similar.

Since it was the first lesson, Teckros explained everything very thoroughly. He spent nearly half an hour going over all the things they needed to rember and asked everyone to keep them in mind.

Then, he gave a demonstration.

Just as Kael had expected, Teckros’s Apparition was almost completely silent. He simply disappeared, then reappeared naturally inside a wooden hoop five feet away.

If other people’s Apparition was like throwing a stone into water, his was like a falling leaf—no matter how far it dropped, you couldn’t hear a sound.

"Just like that—did everyone see clearly?"

Teckros shouted, "Now, just do as I did... If you really don’t know how to enter the void state, just spin in place."

"Now, everyone give it a try."

The students in the auditorium started spinning around in circles.

Teckros walked among their ranks. "That’s it, just like that. You need to relax. Rember what I said... Co on, give it a try, aim for the hoop in front of you.

"Now, listen for my command... Begin!"

The auditorium was instantly filled with the sound of things clattering and crashing.

Of course, these weren’t the sounds of Apparition—they were the sounds of bodies hitting the floor.

A lot of people spun for too long, lost their balance, and fell down.

"Ha! I did it!" Suddenly, an excited shout ca from the crowd.

There was Mikel, standing in a wooden hoop, bouncing and waving his arms. "Look, Professor! I don’t even know how, but I ended up in the hoop! I must have learned Apparition!"

"No, you didn’t... Get out of there," Teckros said expressionlessly.

Mikel had no idea what had happened. Teckros saw it all perfectly clearly—the kid had just spun himself dizzy and stumbled into a wooden hoop... and it wasn’t even his hoop.

Didn’t he notice he was a little off target?

Aside from Mikel, everyone else inside a hoop had basically just jumped in.

"It’s fine, it’s fine, everyone back to your places, let’s try again," he said dryly.

Everyone got their hoops back and returned to their spots.

"Don’t be discouraged! Apparition really isn’t an easy magic—you’re not going to learn it in a day or two. My expectation is three lessons."

He held up three fingers and said, "If all goes well, the most gifted among you should be able to truly master this spell by the third lesson.

"As for those just a little less talented, it’ll take longer... I’ve seen plenty of people who, by the end of twelve weeks of lessons, still can’t move themselves even an inch, so of course they can’t pass the test."

"That’s not necessarily true..." Mikel muttered. "What if soone manages it today?"

He still believed he’d Apparated earlier; he just hadn’t gotten his direction right.

"Then I’ll buy them a year’s worth of candy," Teckros laughed, utterly unconcerned. "Alright, now, everyone, try to recall how you felt just now..."

"Pop!"

He hadn’t even finished speaking when a crisp sound rang out in the auditorium.

Teckros stiffly turned his head and saw soone standing steadily inside their hoop.

"You... you must not have gone back to your spot earlier, right?" he asked, testing him.

Kael smiled but said nothing.
