Chapter 41- I’m Sorry

Rein aid his sword at Virgo. "Release them now, and I might consider sparing your life." He said coldly.

"..." Virgo stared at him with a dark expression. Rein had made sure to corner him where he couldn’t escape easily. anwhile, both could hear the ruckus outside and even several bullet shots.

’Violet. Don’t do anything stupid.’ Rein thought to himself as he hid the frown on his face. He knew that Violet was very smart and could handle herself, but it was still not easy to deal with experienced agents, even if you were stronger than they were.

However, Rein trusted her, and he simply focused on the matter at hand. Dealing with Virgo was the most important step for him.

"You’re underestimating how far I would go, Rein," Virgo said. "You think I wouldn’t dare to crush them? You could kill . But would you really want your dear Violet to grieve the death of all her family mbers? Would you really bear the death of a small child?"

His question hit a string that Rein didn’t like as the image of Emily appeared in his head. He didn’t even need to think twice to know that Virgo would commit such a heinous cri without thinking twice. He didn’t care if it was an innocent child or anyone else; if that ant achieving his goal, then he was simply going to do it.

For a second, Rein stared blankly at Virgo.

Then, he sighed and dropped the sword down as he looked at Virgo. "Don’t hurt her."

For a second, a hint of realisation appeared in Virgo’s eyes as he fought the urge to smile.

Then, as he was about to take over the conversation, he blinked. That was it. He simply blinked. Yet, the next second he opened them, all he saw was a blade descending upon his head as if it was about to deliver judgnt.

It all happened in a split second. Virgo couldn’t even see it... Rein was simply so fast that he couldn’t follow him with his eyes properly. All that reacted to that sword was his body and a small glimpse of the cold, deadly eyes of his enemy in the darkness.

’Die.’ Rein thought to himself. All he needed was for Virgo to lose focus for a split second, sothing that should’ve usually not caused a problem for anyone. But Rein was no normal human... He was a freak of nature. A monster far beyond an average human’s capabilities.

All he needed was the blink of an eye to make the man lose his life. He thought he got him; there was simply no way of dodging that attack, not with normal ans. One slice and Virgo was dead; there was no escape. It was a foolproof plan.

However, in all of that, Rein had forgotten one detail that was rather small but extrely crucial... One detail that could easily make his plan completely nullified.

Rein was simply... not the only person who can use Skills.

*CLING*

That realization only ca to him when he saw his sword clash against an invisible wall. Then, the blade slid to the side, passing beside Virgo’s face as he fell back, slamming against the wall.

’An invisible barrier?!’ Rein’s eyes widened.

At the sa ti, he heard several footsteps rush up the stairs as several guns pointed at him.

"Shoot him! SHOOT HIM NOW!!!" Virgo yelled, still in shock as his heart raced loudly.

"Tsk!" Rein quickly turned around and dashed out of the way as the trail of bullets followed him in the darkness. Without hesitation, he leaped through a glass window, breaking it with his body as he leaped into the air.

The n rushed to the window as they looked down. Rein landed on the lawn as he rolled a few tis and then started running.

*BANG* *BANG* *BANG*

The bullets chased him all the way as he tried to reach the gates.

"Where are they?!" Virgo yelled as he grabbed one of his n by the collar.

"We... We put them in the car and drove away, sir! They’re now far from here! He won’t be able to get to them."

"Good. Don’t kill them. Not yet." Virgo said as he walked to the window and stared at the silhouette running in the distance. "He will co to us soon. Let’s go..."

With that, Virgo turned around and started walking toward the stairs. In his n’s eyes, he looked calm and collected... They didn’t see the subtle shaking in his hand as he hid it in his pocket.

’I will make you suffer the worst hell imaginable, Rein Silversoul. You won’t see the light of day ever again.’

***

"Violet? Where are you?" Rein asked as he put his hand against his ear.

"They took them! Rein! They put my family in the car and took them away!"

"Where are you?"

"I’m outside. They tried to chase , but I’m hiding..." She replied with a disturbed tone.

"I’m coming to you. Stay put."

Rein reached the gates as he jumped over them. and looked behind him. ’How many n did that bastard gather? They infiltrated every spot in the villa so quickly...’

He clenched his teeth before he jumped down and left the area. His eyes were dead cold and angry... ’What was that ability he used... The fact that it could even stop my sword... I was so close to killing that bastard.’

He cursed. Now, he was at a huge risk of Virgo potentially harming Violet’s family. If that happens, it would be a disaster. Rein had gambled, and his gambling failed; now he has to deal with the possible consequences.

’No, knowing that bastard. He won’t kill them yet. He wants to lure in before he does that.’ He thought to himself.

If he truly wanted to kill them, he wouldn’t really take them away in a car. That only ant that he wanted to get Rein to co to him, wherever he is.

After walking for a few minutes, he eventually found Violet as she erged from her hiding spot.

"Rein!" She rushed toward him and hugged him. "My family... Rein... They took my family! I tried to stop them... But... But... Hick..." She fought the tears as she clung to his clothes.

Rein looked down at her with a sad look on his face. It was his mistake... And a very grave one at that. He felt imnse guilt fill his mind. Slowly, he wrapped his arm around Violet.

"We will get them back safe and sound... I promise." He said. "He won’t touch a single hair on their bodies. I will make sure of that."

Violet nodded her head as she buried her face in his chest.

"It was good that you didn’t try to risk your life. We will find them." He said. "They should not have gone far."

’There are only so many places where they could be.’

"I’m sorry, Violet." He said.

"Why are you apologizing?" She asked as she sniffed subtly. "You didn’t do anything wrong."

"If I could’ve killed him at that mont... Your parents and sister would be safe and sound." He said. "It’s my fault... I’m really sorry."
