Chapter 13- Promise

Rein looked to the side as he saw a woman running toward him. She was ridiculously beautiful, so much so that even in the panicked state the soldiers were in, they could only stop to stare at her in admiration. She had an aura around her that seed to captivate the eyes of people naturally.

She had beautiful auburn hair that dropped below her shoulders, two green eyes that seed to flicker with light. Her face was breathtaking and perfect, while her body was simply seductive beyond reason.

"Rein!"

Rein turned to face her just as she opened her arms and threw herself at him, wrapping her arms around his back as she hugged him tightly.

"Rein... Thank God you’re fine... Thank God..." She muttered as she gripped his shirt tightly and buried her face into his clothes.

Rein looked down at her before he tapped her back. "It’s good you’re fine too."

"I was so worried... I thought I would never be able to see you again..." Violet’s voice wavered as she spoke to him. Her eyes slowly looked up at him, teary and filled with worry.

"As you can see, I’m intact. For the most part." He said. "You shouldn’t worry yourself."

"How can I not?! I really..." As Violet was about to say sothing, she seed to realize sothing before she pursed her lips and just looked away. "You’re an idiot."

"Hm?" Rein humd as he looked around him. "So this is the base, huh? How did you find your way here?"

"Ehh, I ca with the rest of the agents who were at the headquarters. We were able to find a path that led us to here."

"Hmm, how many agents?"

"3..." Violet said. "We have all discovered what you told about, Rein. That weird system. I still don’t understand what it is. When I killed those Undead, it made stronger."

"It seems that’s what it does. I still don’t understand it fully yet, but so far, it is the best tool we have to face the mutated creatures outside."

"Mutated creatures... How many did you face, Rein?" Violet asked as she stared at her companion. Rein looked subtly different, almost as if he were stronger.

"Hmmm, a deer double the size of my car, a bald eagle that could take down a fighter jet and... A spider as big as . Not to ntion the dozens and dozens of Undead, of course." He replied.

"What?!" Violet blurted out before she put her hand on her mouth. "How did you..."

"I was able to survive and kill them all," Rein replied. "They made considerably stronger and gave supernatural abilities."

"You need to tell everything."

"Later. For now..."

"Miss Violet!"

At that mont, the two were cut off by the voice of an excited man who rushed toward them.

"Teo!" Violet smiled as she saw the short man. "You’re alive."

"Yes! Thanks to Mr. X." He said. "He found and brought with him."

"Good job, Mr. X." Violet said as she tapped his shoulder with a wink. "You’re really kind."

Rein shrugged and started walking with Violet. His eyes examined the base they were in. It was rather a makeshift base through and through, made out of tents and barricades all around it to protect it from the outside.

The tens were no more than a few dozen, and they were all bustling with movent.

’Hmm, not bad for sothing they made in less than an hour.’ Rein thought to himself. ’It could be a useful place for now.’

"Co here, Rein. This is the tent where I’m resting." Violet said as she led them to one of the tents in a corner, a bit far from the rest. Inside, there were seats, a table, so supplies, and other tools.

"Pretty neat."

"Right?"

"The fact that you have a tent for yourself. Did your dad make so calls?" Rein asked.

"Haha, yeah, he has been swamped with calls since earlier, but he’s fine... My mother is also fine." She said with a tired smile on her face.

"Good to know," Rein said as he walked to one of the chairs and sat down, only to suddenly wince in pain as he felt pressure on his wound.

"Are you ok, Rein?" Violet asked as she looked at him with worry.

"Yeah, I’m fine... Just a small scratch." He said. "Don’t wor-"

"Let see." Violet cut him off with a stern look on her face as she glared at him.

"... It’s really."

"Show. ." She said coldly.

’M-Miss Violet is scary...’ Teo thought to himself as he watched the woman turn one of the most dangerous hitn in the world into an obedient boy with a few words. Even Rein himself can’t face her when she’s that angry.

Sighing, he lifted his shirt, revealing the grueso injury underneath.

"...!!" Violet’s eyes widened. "Rein! Oh my God! That is not a scratch! You’re still bleeding!"

Turning around, she rushed to the corner of the tent, picked a first-aid kit, and ran to Rein.

"Stay still! I will clean the injury for you!" She said as she crouched down and pulled the tools she needed.

"It’s really not necessary, Violet."

"Absolutely not! That injury could beco worse if we don’t treat it! I don’t want to hear a single word."

Rein rolled his eyes and looked at Teo. The latter seed quite shocked by the scene. ’Your boss is stubborn as hell.’ Rein said with his eyes.

Teo could only shrug.

"Ouch." Rein squinted when he felt the stinging dicine being rubbed on his injury.

"How did you even get this injured?!"

"I fell on a piece of broken tal, and it got lodged into my side." He said. "That was while facing a mutated Golden Retrieve- Ouch, ouch, ouch." Rein made pained sounds as he saw Violet press the injury a little as she smiled dangerously at him. "Aaaah, so there was also a dog. Mhm, mhm, what else?"

"Hey, it’s not in my hand. I had to fight to survive." Rein replied. "Unless you want to let them eat alive."

"No... Well, you’re right, but... Please be careful, Rein." Violet said as she continued treating the injury. "Just thinking about you dying... It makes my heart suffocate."

"..." Seeing the sad, scared look on her face, Rein’s expression changed a bit. He knew that Violet cared about him, and the two were considered very good friends. He had known her for years now, and the two shared countless missions together, so their bond was strong.

"I won’t die. Not yet." Rein replied. "It would be very anticlimactic if I die so soo- Ouch! Ouch! Ok, geez. I won’t die."

"Promise ." She said as she looked straight into his eyes.

"I can’t promise you that. I don’t know the future."

"Promise you will do your best to survive." She said. "And that includes not throwing yourself in deadly situations."

"..." Rein pursed his lips before he sighed. "I promise. I will try not to do that."

"... Good. Then I’m happy." She smiled and continued treating his wound. Then, she wrapped bandages around it. "And that should be good. You need to not move around much and let it heal. It should take a few weeks to fully heal."

"Hmmm, no, give it a day or two, and it should be good enough for to move as normal again."

"Huh? How?"

"Well..."

’I have 21 free points I can use however I want. Surely putting so of them into regeneration helps?’
