Joy Taylor laughed, and like Chloe Collins, her smile was charming, "That guy is a good partner, I know he has always been trying to help you, and I need to thank him."
Chloe glanced at her own hand, which had been held by her mother’s hands all along, warm and comforting.
A warmth different from the affection of Alexander Foster spread through her heart.
"Mom."
"Yes?"
"All these years, what has happened to you? Why did the Valleys treat you like that?"
Joy sighed, fell silent for a long ti, then slowly said, "It’s all our fault. If we hadn’t started the BDR project..."
She shook her head and sighed helplessly, "Let’s not talk about these aningless things."
"Actually, the Valleys was originally just a dying patient, who was accidentally saved by Professor Serrano. Thinking to attempt any possible cure, Professor Serrano allowed him to try the newly developed dicine. Subsequently, his disease was cured, but side effects erged. After discussing it, he agreed to cooperate with Professor Serrano and others to continue the research.
Professor Serrano and the others were obsessed with their research and wanted to achieve sothing significant, so they took him into the laboratory to test the drugs on him.
At that ti, only the Whites were secretly supporting Professor Serrano’s research. They initially just wanted to use the power of this research to develop their company.
However, they hadn’t anticipated that the Valleys would soon undergo a genetic mutation and turn into a freak, becoming more powerful but less and less human."
Chloe, puzzled, "But according to my investigation, the mbers of Professor Serrano’s team were dispersed, each hiding with a chemical substance labeled X to avoid the Whites’ pursuers. How could they have collaborated with the Whites?"
Joy replied, "They were indeed separated, but actually, a few of them were always in secret contact, continuing the research. Later, they were found by the Whites’ people, and after negotiations, they decided to cooperate with them."
Chloe asked, "Did Professor Serrano and his team know about the New Human Project initially?"
Joy slowly said, "The New Human Project was originally proposed by the Whites and operated secretly in conjunction with the Alliance.
The project was established the day after our laboratory was disbanded, and at the ti, none of us knew about it.
They had their own research team, but later felt the progress was too slow. Just then, they discovered that so of us never gave up on this research and sent soone to negotiate.
Back then, I was not involved. I had taken Tristan Collins’ advice and stopped participating when the national order to halt the project was issued.
However, just as you have discovered, Professor Serrano and his team continued their research. They hid and evaded, but were still found by the Whites. Initially, the Whites intended to destroy their research, but after negotiations, Professor Serrano’s team, unable to oppose them, joined the Whites’ research team.
At that ti, the officials got wind of sothing amiss and established a team to covertly investigate the BDR matter.
To avoid the officials, they pretended to die in accidents and continued their research year after year. The Valleys among them grew progressively stronger, until eventually becoming independent, formidable in its own right, subtly threatening the Whites’ people, transforming from a patient to a collaborator with the Whites."
She held Chloe’s hand, expressing her feelings, "When all this happened, I was still confused and unaware of the truth. I was so sick I couldn’t get out of bed, but oblivious to the fact that it was because of BDR-2. It wasn’t until Emma told that I ca to know.
At that ti, my only wish was to be able to create an antidote, to save both you and ."
"But before the antidote was developed, Milton ca to tell that he had inadvertently learned of his father’s and the Valley’s secret, ntioning that they had noticed my sickness was related to BDR-2 and wanted to capture for further study.
So, he devised a plan for to fake my death, taking away in hopes of saving my life. I was in a hurry back then, and afraid that you would act rashly, so I didn’t discuss these matters with you. I just hoped you could successfully develop the antidote and, after taking it, live a peaceful life."
In her eyes, there was bitterness.
After a mont, she said, "Milton is a hard-working child. He suffers from dissociative identity disorder, and many tis, he can’t control himself. In the past, he thought those who ca to kill you were sent by his alter ego and was consud by guilt.
It was only after hearing his father’s and the Valleys’ secrets that he realized that those who hunted you down were experint subjects who had escaped from the Whites’ laboratory.
