Chapter 1656
Orlando, the next day.
The news of the failed assassination attempt first reached Valleys.
It was dayti in Beraenia, while it had just beco night here.
Raine Nolan knelt at Valleys’ feet, massaging his legs.
On the screen, a Mutated Person was delivering a report on the follow-up to the assassination attempt on Chloe Collins, all nodding and bowing, clearly indicating the operation’s failure.
Raine could not bear it and glanced at Valleys next to her, expecting him to explode with anger.
But she saw him say indifferently, "If it failed, it failed; just relay the original ssage back to the Whites."
He didn’t seem to care at all.
The screen went dark, and Raine offered him so Black Tea.
After thinking for a mont, she asked, "Boss, if Chloe Collins is so capable and we don’t eliminate her, she might beco a major threat in the future."
"Do you hate her that much?" A faint voice ca from his mouth.
Raine bowed her head, not daring to speak rashly, fearing a fist might co swinging at her if she said sothing wrong.
Unpredictable moods were characteristic of this man.
Working by his side, she was always on tenterhooks every day.
She pondered for a while before saying, "I’m just worried she’s too arrogant and might threaten our grand plan in the future."
Valleys humd indifferently, "Killing a useful person is not always the best way to deal with them. Winning her heartfelt allegiance—that is true strength."
Raine inwardly despised his arrogance, as she couldn’t stand people like that.
For those not in the sa camp, simply ending their lives with a quick stab was the best thod. What was this nonsense about winning allegiance?
She changed the subject: "The police have been looking for you. Should we move sowhere else to avoid their disturbance?"
"No need, they’re just small fry, let them make a fuss."
Hearing this, Raine felt anxious. She hoped Valleys would move to a different location so she could use the opportunity to search for Joy Taylor’s whereabouts.
These days, she had been fumbling around here without a clue.
Her mother had already urged her.
"Boss, about Joy Taylor..."
"Hm?!" Valleys’ voice suddenly turned sharp.
Raine instantly shrank back in fright, quickly bowing her head and saying, "I was just curious—she seems to really be alive. I heard it from Tristan Collins, her husband. His information must be correct."
Valleys’ long, white fingers stretched over to her, brushed her face, then suddenly gripped her chin, demanding, "Do you think a re Joy Taylor poses any threat to ?"
"I didn’t an that at all, absolutely no such intention!" She was in a panic.
But it was too late; Valleys was furious. With a casual flick, he threw her across the room.
The objects on the counter clattered down on her, causing pain but she dared not make a sound.
"Get out!" Valleys shouted angrily.
Raine fled in disarray, and alone, she wept in the next room while applying ointnt to her wounds.
After a while, she called her mother to report these events.
Rosalind Taylor was doubtful: "Could it be that Joy Taylor isn’t with him after all?"
"Mom, it can’t be. I think his reaction seed more like an admission. Every ti Joy Taylor is ntioned he gets angry, inexplicably angry. I think she must have offended him and that’s why he’s got her locked up!"
Rosalind Taylor pondered this and refuted her daughter’s reasoning: "No, it’s not necessarily because she offended him. It could be a vulnerability. Joy Taylor probably knows his vulnerability, but at the sa ti, she might be of great use to him, so he has locked her up. This seems very likely. Raine, you must keep looking."
Raine frowned: "Mom, I don’t understand. Why must you find her?"
