Chapter 1621
Today, the fiery sun was half-devoured by the mountain, the sky awash with rosy light as the earth donned a colorful garnt of gossar.
Chloe Collins was just like every other day, sitting at the East Wing Gate reading a book to pass the ti.
Before long, she had turned to the last page of her book. Looking across the road, no cars were coming.
"Chlo-Chlo," Evelyn Thompson ca out.
"Your dad called earlier; he said they won’t be back for dinner tonight, so let’s eat first."
Chloe let out an "Oh," sensing that sothing wasn’t quite right.
"Did sothing happen?"
Evelyn entwined her hand with Chloe’s and led her slowly inside, laughing, "What major event could it be? The company is recovering so well, there’s a lot to deal with, and they are busy managing everything. There’s nothing to worry about."
As she spoke, she continued, "The thing is, Cain, that kid, he always hesitates over the phone when he calls, and these past two days there’s been no word from him. I’ll have to give him a call later."
Chloe’s mind wasn’t diverted by her conversation. After a mont of thought, she took out her phone and sent a ssage to Alexander Foster.
No reply.
She made a call, but the phone was switched off.
"Mom, I’m going out for a bit."
"Hey hey hey—dinner is just served, where are you planning to go?" Evelyn gripped her hand tightly, stopping her from leaving.
Chloe looked at Evelyn silently, not raising her voice. After two seconds, calmly and earnestly, she asked, "Mom, sothing has definitely happened, hasn’t it?"
Evelyn furrowed her brow for a mont, then smiled again, "Not at all."
"I don’t get scared easily, and neither does my child. Don’t worry, if there’s a problem, just tell . Maybe I can solve it."
Perhaps it was her composed deanor that cald Evelyn’s heart. In a short while, Evelyn sighed and said, "It’s not such a big deal, really. It’s just that ever since our vaccine started selling well, as you know, there are people in the country who support it and others who oppose it."
Chloe was indeed aware of this.
Although the vaccine’s sales were rising day by day, so conspiracy theorists claid that it wasn’t as good as the Whites’ and fabricated all sorts of rumors, but they had refuted each one, and no major chaos had erupted.
"Could it be those who oppose the vaccine have caused trouble?" she asked.
Evelyn sighed, "That’s right. Today Alex and your grandfather were inspecting the workshop; when they ca out, they were attacked by a dozen n. In the chaos, the phone got crushed, so now they’re still over there dealing with the situation and can’t make it back in ti.
But there’s nothing to worry about; they’re both fine."
"Why would they attack us?" Chloe frowned.
"It seems it’s because those dozen n are employees of White Enterprises Pharmaceutical Plant. Due to our influence, the Whites had to shut down several factories, causing them to lose their jobs. Moreover, they’re also among those who don’t trust our vaccine. Hearing that Alex was going to inspect the workshop, they just lashed out without thinking."
She ladled a bowl of soup for Chloe, saying, "Don’t worry, I have just confird by video that both father and son are fine; they’ll be back shortly."
Chloe was sowhat distracted, "I’m not worried about his personal safety, it’s just..."
Her eyes were filled with a myriad of thoughts.
Evelyn leaned in, "Yes? It’s just what?"
"It’s just that I’m worried there will be a situation where supply can’t et demand soon. If that happens and our factories are not enough, and the hospital can’t get supplies, there will be plenty who seize the opportunity to profit. Perhaps there will even be counterfeit products."
Evelyn nodded, "Actually, they have been considering this issue as well. In fact, if we go by the past, the Collinses had nurous partnerships with us, and we shouldn’t worry about this aspect at all..."
