"Chapter 1398

The next instant, the man’s tall figure blocked the dark green garbage can, occupying her entire field of vision.

"Worried about ?" He asked outright.

Layla Lowell’s head hung low as she stared at her shoes.

"You’re overthinking things. I ca here to enjoy the show, that’s all." Her voice grew softer and softer.

She heard a sigh of frustration from the man, and then he stepped back, suddenly bent over, and locked eyes with her.

His eyes were as deep as the ocean, and his gaze shone like a moonlit sea, shimring and tender.

"A woman who says one thing but ans another isn’t cute at all," he shook his head slightly, a faint smile curled up at the corners of his lips, as if helpless.

Before Layla Lowell could digest his words, she looked up and saw his face, close as ever.

For a mont, she thought he was going to kiss her.

It was eventually just a misconception.

"Little Girl, want to go drinking with ?" He asked.

It had been a long ti since she had heard that nickna, and Layla Lowell felt a sense of surrealism.

She instinctively declined: "I..."

"There are too many won tonight, I don’t want to deal with them, just help out,"

He cut her off and quickly took her hand, leading her into the bar.

Layla Lowell’s wish to leave was not that strong, and in her subconscious, she was reluctant to return to that hard, cold house. So, she followed him into the bar with only slight resistance.

They entered the largest private room, and as expected, it was bustling inside. Many refined n were there, each with beautiful won by their sides.

Layla Lowell was a regular at the bar and was used to this sight, but she unexplainably felt annoyed.

Her gaze unintentionally landed on his face. Thinking about how he might spend his nights in such surroundings left her feeling stifled.

This was a reason behind their breakup.

It wasn’t because they didn’t love each other, but rather that they were simply not compatible.

She tried to change him, but failed miserably.

He showed no intention of changing for her and lived his life just as before — carefree and unrestrained.

But she was different; she had principles.

Her principle was, no woman could lay a finger on her man.

And he was different: he was accustod to the life of party, of wine and won; he lived as he pleased. To him, ho was a prison.

In plain terms, they were two people from different worlds.

They had fought several tis over this issue.

In the end, she threatened to break up, and he chose to let her go.

Charles Carrington was her first man, and not feeling upset would have been a lie. That feeling, it was truly heart-wrenching.

It felt as though a layer of skin was being relentlessly torn off.

Thinking of this, her eyes suddenly turned misty, and seeing a glass of wine in front of her, she picked it up and gulped it down.

"Wow, so bold! Charlie’s won are surely different," a gentleman nearby joked.

Charles Carrington glanced at her, the corner of his eye slightly curving upward.

With Layla Lowell there, other won backed off and did not dare to approach Charles Carrington. Each of their glances at Layla Lowell was fierce, as if they would explode, only wishing to kick her out.

Layla Lowell paid no attention to these matters, she just wanted to drink and eat.

In the beginning, there was only wine and a few simple snacks but later, sohow, the table was filled with food.

She was tipsy and did not notice the room gradually emptying out, until it was just the two of them remaining.

The man beside her held a wine glass, casually swinging it but not drinking, every now and then he would reach for so food that was too far for her to reach.
