Chapter 1146
After a period of musical transition, the tune gradually heightened. Mane York started to sing with emotion, reaching the high note within a second.
The atmosphere on-site reached its peak.
Suddenly——
"She’s lowering the pitch, isn’t she? The original singer didn’t sing it that low."
"That’s not a big deal, after all, the original singer has a trendous lung capacity. It’s okay for her to sing at a lower pitch. But I want to point out, it seems she mixed up the lyrics, weren’t those lines from the second verse?"
"You’re right, she missed a few words and tried to cover it up with humming."
"Oh man, she’s made too many mistakes tonight."
Suddenly, enthusiastic cheers erupted from the crowd.
Everyone turned to look, only to find Tony Marshal had taken the stage.
He made his entrance with rap verses, his deep voice eliciting a fan-girl frenzy.
A smile of satisfaction spread across Mane York’s face as she made her way to him in alluring strides. Their hands t, and with fluid twists of her waist, she slowly lowered herself in a seductive S-like move.
Most of this song involved speaking rhythmically, apart from three sung lines in the middle. The remainder of the piece was pure instruntal music, accompanied by a provocative dance.
With Tony Marshal’s participation, the atmosphere heated up, and everything seed to be going smoothly.
Not long after, everyone gasped in unison.
During their dance battle, Mane York exerted too much force and accidently knocked off her earpiece which flung straight into Tony Marshal’s eye, knocking off his cap in the process.
Both their faces changed montarily, but quick-acting backup dancers moved forward to cover for them, continuing the energetic dance routine, trying to make it seem more natural.
Soon, the dancers fell back, and the duo resud their performance.
The audience wasn’t exactly pleased though, and Mane York’s expression visibly cooled down; her initial smile of enthusiasm now gone.
The last segnt was a solo dance.
In this segnt, Tony Marshal took care of the rap while the backup dancers lined up, performing simple rhythmic movents. The spotlight was on Mane York in the center of the stage.
As the final lody fell, everyone took their last pose and ended the performance.
The host appeared on stage amidst applause, and the audience expressed mix reactions.
"As for Mane York... to be honest, apart from her final solo which was decent, she made too many minor errors."
"She even read the lyrics wrong and was off key."
"Even hit a few sour notes earlier."
"Compared to her previous performances, this one had too many flaws."
"Mostly, her gaze seed odd to — constantly drifting in one direction. She reminded of students sneaking a glance at the invigilator during exams."
"You’re overthinking, why so harsh? I think she was good. I liked the song choice and everyone’s lively dancing. I prefer this kind of energy over Chloe Collins’s style."
"Are you sure?"
Backstage.
"Manie, don’t feel down like this." Mane York was surrounded by people trying to comfort her.
She hung her head in silence.
Tony Marshal sighs out of breath and tells everyone to take a rest, then turns to Mane York: "It’s okay, you gave it your all."
Mane York, looking upset, responded: "I just don’t understand how I could’ve made such mistakes after rehearsing so many tis!"
"You put too much pressure on yourself and your vocal condition tonight wasn’t the best."
"Pressure..."
Mane York responded dejectedly: "Indeed, I did feel trendous pressure, it even made it hard for to breathe."
Tony Marshal sighed: "If only I knew..."
He didn’t finish his sentence, instead choosing to keep the thought to himself; if only he knew, he would’ve suggested not being on stage at all and letting soone else replace her.
