Chapter 149: Chapter 149: Mysterious Fragrance in the Late Night
Chapter 149: Midnight Fragrance
Chloe Collins went downstairs and imdiately opened the fridge to drink more than half a bottle of ice water.
As she slowly screwed the cap back on, her eyes stared blankly at a certain spot, sowhat dazed.
When it ca to rejecting people, she had done it plenty of tis.
But what she said just now was a first.
Without even thinking, the words just leaped out of her mouth, bypassing her brain entirely.
Albert Green’s advice kept echoing in her ears. Even though she didn’t take it into consideration at all, she couldn’t forget it. In fact, it beca even clearer in her mind when she woke up from a midnight dream, imprinted word by word.
Thinking about this, she loosened the cap with a flick of her thumb and gulped down the remaining water in the bottle.
Feeling her body calm down slowly in the cold, she went back to her room, opened her drawer, took out her notebook and pen, and occasionally thought for a mont before quickly writing down a few characters.
[Wood fragrance and cloves, 2.5 grams each; whiteweed and Basil, half a gram each; Areca Nut, Fragrant Aconite, White Peony, 1.5 grams each; Osmanthus...]
Just as she was about to finish writing the character "桂," her pen suddenly halted. With a soft sigh, she let the pen fall onto the table with a loud smack.
It was just a simple formula for making Fragrance of Dragon’s Saliva, but at this mont, she couldn’t complete it.
Her old thods weren’t working either.
Since she was young, she would use this thod to calm herself when she was upset, casually writing various fragrance formulas on paper. Gradually, her frustration would fade away as the words fell onto the paper, and her heart would beco quiet.
But this ti, even her tried-and-true technique didn’t work.
Putting down the pen and paper, she absentmindedly picked up a comic book and began reading it by the bed.
Unconsciously, she soon fell asleep.
At midnight, she was awoken by a cool breeze. Turning her head, she realized she hadn’t closed the window.
She was on the first floor, and just outside was a three-ter tall maple tree, its leaves rustling and falling as the night wind blew in.
She took the comic book off her stomach, got up and went to close the window.
As it was halfway closed, her drowsy eyes suddenly cleared, and she froze in place for three seconds.
In the air, apart from the scent of seasonal flowers from the courtyard, there was also a faint, unusual fragrance.
If her sense of sll wasn’t extraordinary, she wouldn’t have been able to discern it from the courtyard’s floral scent.
But now, she was certain that there was an artificially concocted scent mixed in with the familiar sll, a very complex dicinal scent. At a glance, she could only catch a whiff of the refreshing scent of mint, but upon closer inspection, she surprisingly detected a few hints of milky freshness as well. And these two scents weren’t even the main notes, which had been perfectly masked by the combination of the two.
This scent reminded her of the man upstairs.
He always carried a faint milky mint scent on him, very subtle, but impossible to ignore.
Thinking about Albert Green’s probing words earlier, Chloe suddenly wanted to go outside and see if he was actually using a dicinal bath.
If he really was, then it would explain the constant presence of the unusual scent on him.
She picked up her Hearing Aid and quickly determined that Alexander Foster wasn’t in his bedroom - more likely, he was in the basent.
No wonder the scent was so faint that an ordinary person’s sense of sll wouldn’t be able to detect it at all.
Typically, only people with health problems used dicinal baths for extended periods, slowly adjusting their bodies.
But he seed very healthy, with no signs of illness at all.
Could it be just a hobby?
Standing in the courtyard, she thought deeply about the situation.
A suspicion quickly took shape in her head, giving her a plan for her next move.
But at the sa ti, her heart felt inexplicably... heavy.
