Arissa found it difficult to continue the joinery to the hospital. Her mind had been filled with a vague but powerful dread for the future.

It caused her palm to be sweaty and her skin more pale than it ought to be. Her heart kept on pounding loudly with dread and she felt anxiety all over her.

Diego’s presence before her did nothing. She did not even notice his presence anymore even though he drove her. Her thoughts provided company, perhaps too much company.

Diego glanced at Arissa from the front mirror. He found her constantly rubbing on her palm and it made him lift his brows in question.

Not only that, she looked sick and he hated seeing her that way. Whenever she becos so pale, the feeling of downgrading himself always covers him because he feels like he isn’t doing his job so well.

"Are you alright?" he inquired anxiously, his eyes fixed on her face which was filled with loneliness and fear.

"I’m not," Arissa replied honestly with a low sigh.

Ever since Diego beca her second shadow whenever she heeds out, he has done nothing but care for her and she appreciates him for that.

At this point in her life, she fixs him into Richard’s position which makes it understandable that she can be so open with him.

But most tis, she naturally felt like a younger sibling to him because of his kind acts.

Diego humd at her reply and slowed the car speed down a little, "What bothers you?" he asked.

He tried to peer into Arissa’s face from the front mirror and when he did, Arissa’s face twisted and he saw it.

Realizing he might have gone overboard with his employer’s wife, he cleared his throat and said, "Forget I asked that."

Arissa turned away from the glass window and started at Diego’s back for a mont. She tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear and asked, "Are you happy whenever you have to follow around?"

Diego who was taken aback by the fact she parted her lips to reply to a casual conversation with him, felt starstruck when she asked him what she asked rather than replying to him.

He nodded, "I do," he replied.

Arissa thinned her lips and relaxed her back on her seat. She reached for her white Balenciaga purse beside her and asked again, "And do you report every down thing I do to your boss as you have been ordered to?"

Diego’s left brow twisted, "I do." he replied, and then he added, "I report everything to him and unless it would hurt you or threaten your marriage, I won’t until you repeat the act. Not to worry, you haven’t done sothing of that nature at this mont."

He tilted his head a little to catch a glimpse of her face, "Why do you ask, Mrs. Wyatt?" he pronounced the title, ’Mrs. Wyatt’, so outstandingly and epically with more respect added to it.

He felt there was more to her question. Perhaps she felt threatened or frustrated that she lacked her husband’s trust.

Arissa’s eyes lit up and the sides of her lips raised into a grateful smile when she t Diego’s eyes. From his eyes, she saw he tried to brighten her mood, which he successfully did.

Diego caught wind of what was bothering her when she smiled. "Let guess, you’re scared about sothing concerning your marriage?" he went on when she was finally able to smile and this ti, he switched over to his casual side.

Arissa nodded lightly, "I am," she confessed, "I fear the higher-ups would have to co in," and then, she released a deep sigh that almost sounded like one done out of relief.

Diego nodded in understanding. He might not be his boss’s right-hand man but he knows a few things about his boss’s marriage to his wife and he also knows a few underground information through his boss or sotis, Daniel and to be honest, the case of the higher-ups disturbed him when he watched the news.

The news disturbed him because of Arissa. He has seen it a lot in her eyes that she has fallen in love with her husband. He first saw it in her eyes the day Nicklaus ordered him to call a woman. It disturbed him because he put her in the position of a younger sibling after seeing the real her.

She tried to stay strong that day but he saw it and he knew that if she had the power to, which she has, she would know that woman and go after her, and yet, she decided to stay quiet and acknowledge the fact that Nicklaus had all rights and that she was also at fault and that increased his respect for her.

He focused ahead, "The higher-ups would only interfere if you want them to," he assured her, believing Nicklaus would have sothing laid out if things went south.

Arissa frowned lightly, "Don’t they have all powers?" she asked, her voice sounding more interested as she sat up.

Diego cracked his knuckles with the help of the steering wheels, "They do. They have all powers but this is reality and we give control to what we want to control us. The higher-ups would only interfere if given a chance to and when given none, they’ll have no choice but to step miles away,"

He paused and started at the front mirror. When he did, Arissa was also staring. Their gaze connected, and he said, "If I do not know my boss, at least I know him for his possessiveness, and sorry to say this but my boss wouldn’t waste his ti caring about things that concern you if you don’t an sothing more than a wife he would let the higher-ups take away from him when they feel like. He cares because you are more than that contract wife,"

Arissa was dazed after listening to Diego.

Diego went on after a short pause, "Forgive him if he shows slow signs of the things your heart wants but if I should judge from his experience with people over the ti I’ve been around him, I would undoubtedly assure you that you an sothing more to him and for his own, he turns possessive and protects them. One thing is for sure, he would not let you go so easily. I want you to have that in mind. Once again, I’m sorry if I overstepped."

Arissa had moisture on her lips with her tongue and rubbed her sweaty palm nervously, "That’s okay, you haven’t overstepped. Thanks for your words,"

"No worries, I was only being honest with you," he took a glance at her again and said, "You’ll have to step out for a while to balance your emotions before we arrive at the hospital. You can’t go there looking so uneasy," he advised

Arissa nodded in agreent and rubbed her sweaty palm on her forehead which was about to run a higher temperature than the rest of her body.

"Take to a mall," she said, taking her hand off her forehead and relaxing into her seat in deep thoughts.
