Nicklaus stared at Arissa hard and that made her uncomfortable that she had to look away.
Nicklaus pinched her cheek. Not his usual soft pinches but this ti harder as if teaching her a lesson.
Arissa yelped in surprise, "What was that for?" she glared at him.
"For always holding back the things in your mind." he smiled harmlessly at the face of her glare.
Arissa rubbed on the spot he pinched, "I don’t want to say anything," she countered. She refuses to be this open to him.
Nicklaus clicked his tongue, "Lies," he teased her, "It’s written all over your face you have words to say,"
Arissa thinned her lips and before she knew it, she burst into a long laugh, and Nicklaus stayed still smiling at her. He was proud of himself for making it possible for her to laugh this way before him even if he don’t know why she laughs.
"So what do I want to say?" she asked in between her laugh.
"You haven’t said it yet," he divulged to her.
Arissa yawned, "But you said it’s written all over my face. Can’t you read it?" she poked his chest.
She laughed to reduce her anxiety. What she want to talk about was a bit too personal. She would have let it pass but since he has indirectly brought it up, she should talk about it.
Nicklaus smiled, "I can’t read all of it but I know you want to talk about sothing related to what happened at the hospital, am I right?"
Arissa gulped. How accurate!
Nicklaus went on, "I’m sorry I lost control of myself. It_"
Arissa placed her index finger on his lips to seal it, "Let’s not go down that lane. I’ve forgiven you already and I believe it won’t happen again."
Nicklaus kept silent.
"It won’t happen again, right?" she questioned directly.
"It won’t," Nicklaus assured, still ashad of himself.
Arissa smiled at him. She pushed closer and caressed his face tenderly, "Can I ask you a few questions about her?"
"Who?"
"That lady, the one you love,"
Nicklaus left brow shot up. His mother? What does she want to ask?
"Ask," he permitted her.
Arissa pulled her hand off his face, "Was Klaus your nickna from her?" she asked cautiously.
Nicklaus’s heart turned heavy as he turned his face away to his balcony door, "It was,"
Arissa’s mouth ford an inaudible ’oh’ and sothing stirred in her heart. It squeezed her inside and asked her why she never ca into his life earlier.
Jealousy! To be exact, jealousy was the feeling she felt.
"Was that the reason you said I shouldn’t call you Klaus?" she was impatient to know more about the woman who stole his hard heart this way.
Nicklaus glanced at her. He felt almost uneasy with her questions, they ca from sowhere deeper.
However, he took in a deep breath and opened up to her, "Yes. When you call Klaus, you remind of her. She loved that na so much,"
Arissa blinked sadly, for the first ti, she felt love coming from Nicklaus. She could feel the love coming from his words and it tore her heart that love wasn’t directed to her.
"You must have loved her so much," she muttered, "Can I know more about her?"
Nicklaus forced out a chuckle, "There’s nothing about her you should know." he faced Arissa fully, "She was my first love and that’s all," he took in a shaky breath rembring the demoness he once called a mother.
Arissa placed a hand on his hard muscles, "Calm down," she advised. His breathing was too rough. A bit rough than this might shake his temper and she don’t want that.
Nicklaus placed a hand on Arissa’s hand on his chest. He looked down at her hand and t her eyes.
He laughed, a sad one, "She left for her first love," he stared deeply into Arissa’s brown eyes, "I guess I was never good enough for her, or no one. No one deserves to love , it would be pure torture for whoever would love ," he said.
Arissa’s heart dropped at his words, "Is this the reason why you were so brutal, cold, and detached?" she asked softly.
Nicklaus did not reply to that. Rather he said, "You can never compete with first loves,"
Arissa looked down and bit her lower lip. He sounded like the words were ant for her, "I guess," she agreed with a downcasted heart.
"But Geal loves you, your parents also," she listed the few people she can bet on that love him. She would have added herself but she was able to stop herself at the last minute.
Nicklaus lifted her chin with his fingers. He forced her gaze to be on his before asking, "How about you?"
"Huh?" Arissa suddenly felt dumb. What was he asking?
Nicklaus leaned closer to her face and Arissa leaned away. Her heartbeat fastened when Nicklaus did not give up and kept on leaning closer to her.
Finally, her back landed softly on the bed. She tried to roll away but Nicklaus caged her within his arms and brought his face closer, an inch away from hers.
He eyed her lips and searched her eyes, "How about you? Can you love a man like ?"
Arissa gulped.
Her heart forcefully slamd against her ribcage. Was this an innocent question or it ant what she was thinking?
It definitely ant what she was thinking. If not, why would he use the term ’man’? Was he indirectly asking if he was her type? But hold up, this was Nicklaus before her and he feels nothing about her to care if he ets her requirent in a man or not.
Maybe, he needs her reply to soothe his heart that still bleeds over his ex. She gazed deeply into his eyes without blinking.
Parting her lips, Nicklaus waited for what her reply would be. His heart hung, expecting a surprising yes from her or a brutal no.
Arissa shut her eyes and rather than replying, she said, "I feel sleepy," this was the only way she can avoid this heart-damaging question.
Nicklaus blinked in disbelief and then he laughed. Seems he was right when he said he wasn’t ant to be loved.
"I’m sorry I can’t answer that," Arissa said with her eyes still shut. She can’t look into Nicklaus’s eyes at this mont.
Nicklaus folded his lower lips and then he nodded, "I understand,"
He rolled away from her and before Arissa would take in her next breath, he pulled her into his arm and hugged her right from behind, "Sleep, you need so rest," he whispered into her ear.
