Arissa watched Jocelyn eat as she tried to compose how to bring the topic up without being upsetting or hurtful.
She wants to talk about that nurse. She had tried to convince herself countless tis about the nurse being legal but she could not help the suspicious feeling in her heart.
She did not even catch a glimpse of the nurse’s face when she ca in as her mind was all occupied then but she did not miss the out-of-line aura she felt from the nurse.
Taking in a deep breath, she turned her head to Adele and back to Jocelyn. With a low breath that did not escape Jocelyn’s curious eyes as her friend stared up at her almost imdiately, Arissa started, "What do you think of that nurse?"
Jocelyn first swallowed the al in her mouth, "You haven’t eaten much," she pointed out as she dropped her cutleries while starting at Arissa with her hands on the table and her fist under her chin.
Arissa thinned her lips, "I can’t eat," she said absently mindedly staring down at her plate of stakes. Stakes are usually her favorite and she knew Jocelyn bought them to lighten the air between them but she couldn’t even take more than ten bites as her mind was occupied.
"Unfortunately, you have to eat for to answer that," Jocelyn told her. Picking up her cutleries again, her eyes went to Arissa’s phone which had been vibrating for a while now. It was obvious her friend have no plan in answering whoever was texting but still, "Who could that be texting by this hour?" she asked curiously.
It was already 12:45 am and the ssages needs to be checked. Who knows, it might be important.
Arissa snapped out of her thought before curiously picking up the phone beside her. Jocelyn frowned because, from Arissa’s expression, it was vivid her friend did not notice the incoming texts until she said it.
Arissa’s lips parted starting at the content of the texts and Jocleyn dropped her cutleries again, "Who’s that?" she asked supportively.
Arissa stared up at her friend, "I don’t know," she told her, "But I think they are from Nicklaus," she added.
And now, it was Jocelyn’s turn to frown, "Why do you think? You guys haven’t still exchanged contacts?" she inquired from Arissa.
"We haven’t," Arissa answered truthfully.
Jocelyn gave her a frustrated eye roll before asking again, "Why do you think they were from Nicklaus?"
"I said so because_" she trailed off. She don’t know why but she was sure they were from him.
Her eyes went to the ti sent, and she froze, "The first three texts are from seven hours ago," she t Jocelyn’s eyes, and her eyes were wide as she questioned her ntality.
Ever since Jocelyn left, she had been with her phone in her palm all through so, why wasn’t she able to notice the then incoming texts? Was she so lost in her world of thinking?
Jocelyn blinked, "It might be it ca when your phone was away," she said when she saw how confused Arissa was.
"I held my phone all through the day," Arissa countered, and with a palm on her forehead, she rubbed away the brewing headache.
Jocelyn smiled, "But not when you visited the restroom. They might have at that mont," she assured Arissa.
Arissa nodded. She did visit the restroom twice without her phone and maybe Jocelyn was right if not, how wasn’t she able to detect her vibrating phone in her hold? But even now it was just beside her, and she never notice it.
’Am I drifting so far?’ she asked herself.
"What does the text say?" Jocelyn asked cheerfully starting into Arissa’s eyes to ease whatever she was feeling.
Arissa took in a deep breath and a ghost smile graced her lips when she opened the texts. She was unaware of her smile and the sparkle in her eyes. Jocelyn could only beam seeing her that way.
"What’s in the text?" she asked expectantly as she beca impatient to know what made her friend so unlike her.
Arissa bit her lower lip and cleared her throat, "I’m sorry I can’t call. I’m piled up with work, but Eat! I don’t mind flying back to you just to shove sothing down your stomach," she read the first text and scrolled up, "Have you eaten sothing? Wasn’t Rue food to your taste?" an audible chuckle left her lips, as she shook her head with a toothless smile, "You can’t keep on ignoring . What have you eaten?"
Her stomach was tied into a knot and her dead eyes lit up as she read through the remaining worried texts, "Is your health that bad?"
"Your health?" Jocelyn cut her off, "What happened to you? Were you sick?"
Arissa pouted her lips at her. It was obvious she did not appreciate Jocelyn interrupting her that way, "Let finish, I promise to explain everything,"
"Okay,"
Arissa’s smile returned when her eyes went back to her phone screen, "Are you feeling alright?" her jaw dropped from the care the texts carried and suddenly, her mood dropped when she reasoned he was just acting in line with the deal.
But still, she read on, "I just sent my mum over. Go back ho, tell her what you want to eat. Take a nap when you are filled and stop ignoring ,"
Jocelyn smiled beautifully, "What else aren’t you telling ?"
Arissa sighed with a smile. Her mind told her he sent her the texts due to the deal but she could not help her happy heart that wanted to act like it was real.
She couldn’t even understand why her heart was even dancing.
"I can’t read the remaining ones. They are much,"
Jocelyn’s face dropped, "Huh? Why?" Jocelyn asked with an unhappy expression. She wanted more.
Arissa simply turned her phone screen to her and Jocelyn’s jaw dropped at the number of unread ssages, "47?" she chuckled, "You did hide a lot of things from . Who fell first?" she asked dramatically.
Arissa smiled, "That sound ridiculous. We’re not in love. This is just one of our random deals but we did have sex two days ago," she confessed with a blush red check. She wouldn’t have added that sex part but this was her best friend.
Jocelyn’s eyes widened, "Sex? You an sex with him again after your first night?" she asked to be sure her hearing organ was still working.
Arissa nodded and then, she explained everything single thing that had happened to Jocelyn, not skipping the details about their unprotected sex.
Jocelyn gasped hearing that part, "That was perilous, considering the fact this was a forced union between you two,"
"I’m on my safe week and again, I got flushing pills from a pharmacist without his knowledge," Arissa explained she have everything in order.
"That’s why he thought you were sick," Jocelyn added up and Arissa nodded with a smile at her friend’s understanding.
"Oh my God, he is so sweet," Jocelyn laud at Nicklaus and got a glare from Arissa.
"That’s because you haven’t been in the sa space with him to know how much of an ass he could be," Arissa sassed before picking up her cutleries.
No matter how she would try to reject it, she felt good again with his texts as all of her worries vanished instantly, and with a smile on her lips, her appetite returned.
Jocelyn wanted to say sothing about Nicklaus but zipped her mouth when she saw Arissa eating with life in her.
Picking up her cutleries, she resud eating, while she smiled at her friend’s denial. Well, ti would uncover more and she believes soonest, soone’s denial will be lost with only the truth on her lips.
"About the nurse," Jocelyn began while she cut her remaining stake into halves and dropped a portion into Arissa’s place which made the latter smile, "She is suspicious if you ask ,"
Arissa paused, "What do you an?"
"With the kind of questions, she kept on asking and how the other nurse resigned, she screams trouble," Jocelyn explained casually as she ate her last bite.
Arissa frowned, "But you let her in and chatted freely with her," she pointed out.
Jocelyn nodded, "That’s because I have to keep my enemies closer," she winked at Arissa, "and adding up all we spoke about today, she was heading sowhere,"
"Lyn_"
Knowing Arissa wanted to talk her out of what she was doing, she cut her off, "You just have to be careful of the outside world. Don’t bother about here, I’ll take care of everything,"
