Talia sat down on the single sofa beside Eleanor Madison.
She showed no signs of fear, her gaze towards Eleanor was calm without a ripple, "I never thought of marrying into the Grant Family."
Eleanor naturally didn’t believe her.
She looked Talia up and down from head to toe.
This was the girl her son had been dating for three years.
Her appearance was indeed striking and charming, and her deanor was not bad either. Although she ca from an ordinary family, she didn’t have that kind of timid, self-deprecating aura typical of small families.
Just now at the door, she had said those things deliberately to humiliate her, but she hadn’t anticipated that Talia would show no emotion at all. Talia wasn’t servile nor arrogant when she t her, and spoke confidently.
But what did that matter?
Just a girl chasing after the dream of marrying into a wealthy family, no matter how well she plays the part, she’ll never make it to the big stage.
Eleanor spoke with a clear tone of superiority, "You don’t need to pretend in front of , I’m also a woman, I know exactly what you’re thinking, and I know our Ethan attracts many girls. It’s not easy to co across a wealthy heir like him, hasn’t he spent quite a bit on you?"
Talia replied, "I don’t care for his money."
Eleanor chuckled disdainfully, her eyes filled with cold light, "What a pretense? All show and no substance, I’ve seen many girls like you. You say you don’t care for it, but if that were truly the case, why would you pursue Ethan?"
Talia laughed.
"Aunt Eleanor, are you saying that your son has nothing attractive about him except for his money?"
"You!" Eleanor was really provoked, her breathing quickened. She glared at Talia, "Sharp-tongued! Ethan said you were gentle and understanding, but he clearly misjudged you!"
Talia leisurely picked up the teacup and took a sip to soothe her throat.
"No manners." Eleanor glared at her, "The elders are seated here, and you don’t know to pour a cup of tea."
Talia feigned a smile, "Sorry, Aunt Eleanor, there’s no spare cup here. You’d definitely find it distasteful if I used mine, so I thought it’s better not to. Anyway, it’s not like you’re lacking a sip of water, right?"
Eleanor was infuriated.
Where did Ethan find such a rude girl?
She cald herself down and continued, "I’m here today to tell you, our Grant Family isn’t a place for just anyone to enter, you want to marry Ethan, that’s impossible!"
Talia: "Uh-huh."
Eleanor: "Vivian Coleman is the daughter-in-law I have in mind, her family is an old friend of ours, not to ntion she’s Ethan’s first love. I advise you to give up, pack your things and leave, make room around Ethan!"
Talia curled her lips, recalling that she had overheard Ethan on the phone earlier, ntioning that the Grant Group’s financial chain had problems, many projects were stagnant and losing money heavily.
At that ti, she had even thought about helping the Grant Group with investnt.
Even though Ethan believed her family conditions were poor and never considered marrying her, they had spent three years dating, there was so affection, helping him was feasible.
She went to pick up Ethan from a drinking event that day, intending to discuss investing in the Grant Group with him.
She had fallen out with her family, and Shawn Rhodes certainly wouldn’t invest.
But her cousin Oscar Sterling was now the one in power of the Sterling Family, and the Sterling Group was flourishing under his leadership, having entered the top ten dostic companies last year. Her cousin had always been fond of her, as long as she asked, investing in the Grant Group wouldn’t be an issue.
But that very night, she heard Ethan say she was just Vivian’s stand-in.
Recalling this, Talia brought her thoughts back and said to Eleanor, "Rest assured, I’ll be going back ho in a couple of days and won’t be returning."
Eleanor didn’t expect to persuade Talia to leave so easily, she was montarily stunned.
Could Talia be dealt with so easily? Without asking for a penny?
It felt odd, but she couldn’t quite pinpoint it.
Talia glanced at her watch, "Let’s not talk for now, I have sothing to attend to, goodbye."
With that, not waiting for Eleanor to reply, Talia got up, went to her room to grab her bag, and hurriedly headed out.
Eleanor was left stunned, did she just leave like that?
"Really no manners!" Eleanor muttered to herself angrily once she comprehended the situation, "The elder hadn’t said they were leaving yet, but she left first, does she even acknowledge as an elder?"
Today, Eleanor had specially chosen the most extravagant and expensive jewelry set to make this poor girl who hadn’t seen the world recognize the gap between her and Ethan.
Before coming, Eleanor had thought about giving Talia a hard ti, hoping Talia would serve her well, she even fantasized about Talia calling Ethan in tears to complain.
But she hadn’t expected things to turn out like this.
After Talia left, Eleanor no longer wanted to stay there, she stord out of the villa and thought about how to express her dissatisfaction with Talia to Ethan.
She was truly a thousand and ten thousand tis dissatisfied with this rude girl!
The driver was waiting at the door.
Shortly after Eleanor got into the car, she received a call from Vivian Coleman.
She cald her agitated emotions and answered the phone with a gentle tone.
"Vivian, let tell you, Ethan’s girlfriend is really impolite, I just witnessed it, really proved the saying—’Only wild things grow on barren mountains!’
Vivian was elated, this was great, Talia had offended Aunt Eleanor, now even if Ethan was reluctant to break up, their relationship wouldn’t last!
Vivian said softly, "Aunt, you calm down, don’t take offense from that kind of wild girl who cos from the countryside."
In Vivian’s eyes, a poor person equated to a country bumpkin.
Even if Talia didn’t co from the countryside, it made no difference to her.
Eleanor said: "You are still the one who draws people in, that wild girl said she’ll return to her hotown in a few days and won’t co back, she knows her place!"
"Did she really say that?" Vivian asked, "Is she prepared to break up with Ethan?"
Eleanor replied, "Certainly, even if she doesn’t break up, I’ll force them to, just based on her attitude today, thinking of staying with Ethan, impossible!"
"That’s wonderful." Vivian said, "Aunt, are you heading back to the old house now? I’ll co over and keep you company."
...
After leaving Serene Gardens Villa, Talia went straight to resign at the law firm.
She had worked there for over three years, from being an intern lawyer to becoming a practicing lawyer, this small law firm witnessed her growth.
Her assistant, Michelle Scott, had just graduated from university this year, in her early twenties, three years younger than Talia.
As soon as she heard Talia was leaving, Michelle’s eyes reddened suddenly, "Sis, how co you’re suddenly resigning out of the blue?"
"There’s sothing at ho," Talia initially didn’t think resigning was a big deal, but seeing Michelle on the verge of tears made her feel a bit sad inside.
Michelle and her, they weren’t just colleagues.
