"What else?" Iris Long asked.

"I ntioned to you earlier that Long Hui wanted to co to the funeral today but Father scolded him," Long Jian said. "I don’t know what Long Hui is planning but it’s making cautious. You should be cautious, too. Maybe he wants to lower our guards and attack when we least expect it. This isn’t the first ti he tried doing that, anyway."

"Maybe," Iris murmured.

Her eyes fell on her godson. Little Jun ran around with the limping Gravy and his energetic new guard puppy, Buster.

Perhaps Long Hui had realized the error of his ways and decided to correct himself from now on. Or perhaps Long Jian was right and Long Hui was just trying to lower their guards and attack them when they least expected it.

No matter what Long Hui planned, it would definitely affect his son, Little Jun.

The child had suffered enough.

Iris and the others couldn’t afford to trigger the little boy’s trauma.

Long Hui better conduct himself properly from now on or they wouldn’t show any rcy.

"Elder Long Jufang also acted so shalessly," Long Jian complained. "Father and his wife had no plans of taking him here, but he insisted. He even climbed into Father’s vehicle early in the morning just so your tight security wouldn’t kick him away if he ca by himself."

"Is that so?" Iris wasn’t really that interested in hearing about Elder Long Jufang.

"As for , I didn’t want to co because we aren’t close at all. I don’t even know your grandmother-in-law that well. But Father insisted that I co with them today. He said that our relationship has improved a lot and wants to improve it even more. You and our sister, Jinjing, have grown very close since you founded Orchidia. But us? We both know that we’re just using each other for our own goals. But Father doesn’t know that. I’m so annoyed. I still have so many tasks that I need to finish at the company. But don’t get wrong. I do feel sorry for your loss. I just want to clarify that I didn’t co today specifically for you. I ca because Father dragged here."

Iris chuckled. "I know. You didn’t have to explain. You spoke so many words. Are you testifying in court to prove your innocence?"

He snorted. "I’m being serious, Long Xiulan."

"Fine, fine. You’re serious."

After teasing the man for a while, Iris saw her twins toddling towards them. She waved at them, encouraging them to co.

"Mama!"

"Ma!"

She caught her twin sons. The nannies stayed back but continued to keep an eye on the babies.

Pudding and Chowder, the babies’ German Shepherd guard dogs, went on alert as they approached Long Jian with sharp eyes.

"Whoa, whoa!" Long Jian lifted his legs and shrank in his seat. "No biting! Xiulan, shoo away the dogs! I won’t let you off if they bite !"

"It’s fine," she tried reassuring him. "They won’t bite unless you want to harm my sons."

"Why would I want to harm your sons?! They’re my nephews!"

"I know. Give your hand. Let them sll you."

"Nuh-uh. Not happening."

Little Mochi laughed. He found this uncle super funny.

Little Matcha glanced at this uncle but quickly reached up to his mommy for a hug instead.

"Babies, say hello to your Uncle Jian."

"Yah yah!" Little Mochi bead.

"Uh." Little Matcha, on the other hand, looked uninterested. He only greeted out of politeness.

The babies were already familiar with their Uncle Jian. They had only seen him on video chats, though. This was the first ti that they rembered eting him in person.

When Iris worked at Long Industries, she would often et up and chat with Long Jian. During her breaks, she would video call her babies. This was how Long Jian beca personally acquainted with his nephews.

Long Jian felt like sothing inside him lted once his nephews greeted him.

What the hell was this?!

Why were they so cute?!

On the other side of the place, Jin Liwei finished talking with his close business partners who ca to express their condolences to him. He looked around for his wife and saw her sitting in a far corner with their kids and Long Jian.

Little Mochi and Little Matcha sat on each of Long Jian’s knee. He bounced the babies, eliciting loud giggles from Little Mochi. The other baby, Little Matcha was more restrained but there was still an unmistakable smile on his face.

Jin Liwei’s grave expression softened upon seeing his family. His rose-coloured eyes automatically filtered out Long Jian’s presence in his sight. Only his wife and children remained along with the dogs.

"Liwei," Iris greeted him with a smile upon seeing him approaching them.

Long Jian wanted to stand up but was too scared to carry both of the babies at the sa ti. What if he dropped them?

"Brother-in-law," he greeted.

"En." Jin Liwei nodded at him.

He didn’t reject the man’s presence at his grandmother’s funeral today. He was aware of the alliance between his wife and Long Jian. As long as Iris didn’t have any problem with Long Jian, then Jin Liwei would remain neutral.

His twin sons also seem to like the man.

Among the Long siblings, Long Jian was the only one who had truly worked his way up from the bottom. He had the best interpersonal skills among Long Tengfei’s children. He got along well with his colleagues, superiors, and subordinates.

He didn’t have the arrogant deanour of the legitimate children or the timid sense of inferiority of an illegitimate child. He believed that he deserved to be the next head of Long Industries because of his skills, not because of his birthright.

Only against people who looked down on him like Long Hui and the previous Long Xiulan did he exhibit the prickly side of his personality to retaliate against their provocations.

Therefore, Long Jian was actually quite a tactful person. He carefully returned his twin nephews to their parents before excusing himself.

Jin Liwei raised an eyebrow while watching Long Jian leave.

"Am I that scary? He ran away as soon as I ca."
