Chapter 30- Deal

Tyler's POV

Declan's expression darkened. "The gunn will find you even if you run."

I stared at my father, my jaw tightening as he repeated the sa thing he'd been saying before.

"No matter where you run, Tyler, they will find you," Declan said, his voice calm but firm. "It's better you stay with . I can protect you."

My hands curled into fists. My heart pounded, not just with anger but with suspicion. He sounded too sure—too certain.

I took a step forward, locking eyes with him. "How do you know that?" I asked, my voice sharp. "How do you know they'll find , no matter where I go?"

Declan's expression didn't change.

"This isn't even the first ti you've said sothing like that," I continued. "It almost sounds like you want them to find . Like you... hired them yourself."

Beside , my mother, let out a sharp gasp.

Declan's eyes darkened, and for a second, I thought I saw a flicker of sothing—guilt, maybe. But then he scoffed.

"Don't be ridiculous," he said, his voice colder now. "I would never do sothing like that."

I let out a bitter laugh, shaking my head. "Right. Just like you would never abandon and Mom, huh?"

Declan pressed his lips into a thin line, but before he could respond, Mom reached for my arm.

"Tyler, please," she said, her voice filled with desperation. "This is the only way to keep you safe."

I turned to her, eyes burning. "If safe ans staying with him, then I don't want to be safe."

She flinched at my words, but I didn't stop. "I already gave you two options, Mom. Let stay here, or let you and I leave together to start a new life sowhere else."

Declan sighed heavily. "Tyler, this isn't a ga. If I didn't care about you, I wouldn't be here."

I ignored him. My gaze stayed on my mother. "If he really cared about , he could just bring in bodyguards to protect . Why does he have to take with him?"

Mom's lips trembled. "Tyler..."

"It's the sa thing, Mom," I pushed. "If I stay with him, it'll still be guards protecting , right? Then why can't he just have them protect here?"

She shook her head. "You don't understand, sweetheart. I... I'll hate myself if sothing happens to you."

Her voice broke at the end, and for the first ti, I saw the pure fear in her eyes.

She grabbed my hands, gripping them tightly. "I promise, it won't be for long. Just until we know it's safe."

I pulled away. "And I already told you, I don't trust that." My voice rose, frustration leaking through. "You say it won't be long, but then one week turns into a month, and a month turns into a year. I know how this works."

Mom's shoulders shook. "Then... what if you just stay with your father until after the wedding?"

I blinked.

She swallowed hard before continuing. "By then, we'll be sure they would have caught the gunn. And you can co back two days after the wedding."

My stomach twisted.

She was desperate. Too desperate.

I hated seeing her like this.

My jaw clenched as I took a step back. "The only way I'll agree to go is if you co with ."

Mom froze.

Declan sighed again, rubbing his forehead.

She shook her head slowly. "Tyler... you know I can't."

I narrowed my eyes. "Why not?"

She hesitated, then looked away. "Your father is..."

I cut her off before she could finish.

"This is the last ti I'll warn you," I said, my voice low and filled with venom. "He is not my father. He is Declan. Do well to call him that."

Mom's lips parted in shock before she nodded quickly. "Okay. I'm sorry."

My chest rose and fell with heavy breaths.

She swallowed before continuing. "Tyler... Declan is getting married soon. His wife-to-be is already staying in the house."

I scoffed. "And?"

Her eyes pleaded with . "She won't be comfortable if I stay there, Tyler. I don't want to add any more stress to the situation."

I rolled my eyes. "Oh, so her comfort is more important than yours?"

Mom sighed. "It's not that. I also have work. You know my boss won't allow to take even a day off, not to talk of weeks."

I stared at her, unimpressed. "That's not an excuse, Mom."

She opened her mouth, but I raised a hand, stopping her.

"First of all, Declan is rich," I said, throwing a glance at the man who remained silent. "He can easily get you a short-term place to stay until we co back. And as for work? Declan also has power."

I turned back to her, my expression unreadable.

"All it takes is one phone call. Your boss will have to agree. Simple."

Mom looked unsure.

I wasn't done. "If he really wants to protect , then he should also protect you."

Declan finally let out a deep breath. "Fine," he said. "As long as you promise to co with ."

I t his gaze, eyes sharp. "I promise."

Mom exhaled in relief, her whole body relaxing.

I didn't need to ask to know the truth—she wasn't just scared for . She was scared for herself.

Because she knew. She knew those gunn would co for her, too.

And Declan? He didn't care.

That's why he had said they wouldn't co for her. That's why he was so calm.

I clenched my fists.

So why? Why was Declan suddenly acting like he cared?

After years of abandoning , what changed? What made him co back?

He wanted my forgiveness , he still treated Mom like she was nothing.

I wasn't stupid. I didn't trust him—not even for a second.

Once a prodigal father, always a prodigal father.

I exhaled and stretched my arms. "Since everything is settled, I'm going to bed. I need to rest before we leave."

I turned to walk away—

But then I heard sothing.

"You'll sleep on the couch, and first thing tomorrow morning, you leave."

I stopped.

Mom's voice had been cold.

I turned back and raised a brow. "Why are you showing him pity?"

She looked away.

I scoffed. "Tsk. Couldn't be . I'd never pity him."

I turned to Declan. "No, no, no, you aren't sleeping here."

Declan frowned. "It's late, Tyler."

"And?" I crossed my arms. "You think I care? You're leaving now."

Declan stared at , but I didn't care.

I moved to the door and flung it open. "Out."

Declan sighed but walked toward the door. As he passed, I smirked.

"You know, you can give my own karma by not letting enter your house either."

He didn't answer.

He simply shook his head and stepped outside.

I slamd the door shut behind him.

No goodbyes. No hesitation.

I heard Mom let out a quiet breath.

I didn't ask. I already knew. Declan must have threatened her before.

I looked at her. "Don't open the door if anyone knocks."

She nodded.

I gave her one last glance before heading upstairs.

I collapsed onto my bed and fell asleep instantly.

Logan ~~~

I stepped inside after Tyler drove off, shutting the door behind . My fingers brushed over my lips as I exhaled, my heart still racing from the kiss.

I regretted not giving in.

But could I even bla myself?

I hadn't expected it. Not from Tyler. Not like that.

Shaking my head, I pulled out my keys, unlocked the door, and stepped inside. The house was quiet, save for the faint clicking sound coming from the living room.

Dad was sitting on the couch, scrolling through his laptop. The glow from the screen reflected in his sharp eyes as he glanced up at , his expression unreadable.

"You're ho early," he muttered, his attention flicking back to his screen. "Didn't see enough girls to spend the night with?"

I sighed, already feeling drained. "I don't have ti for any of that, Dad. I'm feeling sleepy. We'll talk tomorrow."

I moved to head upstairs, but his voice stopped .

"Sleepy?" He let out a low chuckle, finally closing his laptop. "You must've had one hell of a night, then."

I frowned, turning back to him. "What?"

Dad smirked, leaning back against the couch. "Co on, Logan. I wasn't born yesterday." He gestured lazily. "You ca ho earlier than usual, claiming you're 'sleepy.' That only ans one thing—you were with soone, and they drained the energy out of you."

I rolled my eyes. "Not everything is about sex, Dad."

His smirk deepened. "Really?" He chuckled. "Now, that's rich—coming from you, of all people."

I clenched my jaw. "What's that supposed to an?"

Dad shook his head. "Logan, Logan, Logan..." He tsked. "You've never turned down a chance to have fun before. And now, you expect to believe that you just—what? Decided to be a saint all of a sudden?"

I folded my arms, unwilling to entertain his nonsense. "Believe whatever you want. I'm going to bed."

But before I could take another step, his next words stopped cold.

"I an, considering the fact that you kissed soone not too long ago, I find it funny that you're acting so... innocent."

My breath hitched.

My entire body went stiff.

Slowly, I turned back to him, my heartbeat thudding in my ears.

Dad raised a brow, tilting his head. "Oh, you think I didn't see you?" His voice was calm, almost amused. "I watched you get kissed by soone."

He leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees as he studied .

"Now, answer ," he said, his voice dropping lower. "Who was it?"
