Chapter 216- Who Do We Have Here??
LOGAN’S POV
"My bad. Forgive him," I muttered, raising both hands in the air like I was surrendering to the police.
Dad just looked at and gave a satisfied nod. "Good," he said, stretching his hand toward like he was collecting a bag of money instead of a car key.
I rolled my eyes so hard they nearly stayed stuck. Still, I handed the key over.
Like seriously, what even is his business?
It’s my car. My ride. Even if I decide to abandon the car at school forever and take a donkey ho, that’s still none of his business.
But whatever.
I didn’t have ti to argue. I had just minutes left to be in school, and the clock was seriously not playing.
But then... instead of heading out like a normal person who just took a car key from soone clearly in a hurry, this man—
He sat down.
On the chair like it was movie night.
I froze.
What the actual hell?
I stared at him with one brow raised, waiting for him to do sothing reasonable. Maybe stand up and move. Maybe get the car ready. Maybe anything. But nope.
Instead, this man brought out his phone.
And started pressing it.
"DAD!!!" I scread like soone just stabbed .
He flinched so hard his phone nearly flew out of his hand. I didn’t even feel bad.
"Dad, what the actual fuck is happening?!" I snapped, my voice shaking with rage. "Why are you sitting?"
I waved my hands in the air like a madman. "I gave you the key like you asked. I didn’t argue. I didn’t talk back. I obeyed. And now look at you. Sitting like the king of laziness!"
He blinked.
"If I end up missing whatever stupid trip this is, just know one thing. I will never forgive you. I swear, I’ll drop out. I an it. Like, gone. Bye-bye to school forever."
He opened his mouth but I cut him off.
"And don’t you dare think you can talk back into it. Nope. I swear with—"
I paused.
Wait. I shouldn’t swear with my life. I still have a lot to do in this life. Swearing with it might just tempt fate to co for .
"No," I said quickly, "I won’t swear with my life. I have a future. A good one. A sexy one."
I folded my arms. "So instead, I swear with the life of your useless and wicked wife that I won’t go back to that school if I miss this trip."
He stood up so fast you’d think the floor caught fire.
"Fuck! I forgot! Logan, you made forget!" he shouted.
I gasped. "? How the hell did I make you forget? I literally handed you the key without drama! What more do you want from ? Magic?"
I was gearing up to say more, ready to roast him like old chicken, but I stopped myself. It would only waste more ti.
"Talking to you is only making later," I said, shaking my head. "Please, just go. Drop off at school before sothing snaps in ."
He didn’t argue this ti.
He just nodded and walked off like he was finally getting serious.
Glad he’s not being sluggish this ti.
I stepped outside, dragging my box behind like a dead body.
Then I heard those soft footsteps behind .
I turned around—and there she was. Betty.
"What are you doing?" I asked her, raising a brow.
But the mont those words ca out of my mouth, it was like soone pressed my dad’s "overreact" button.
"What the hell is wrong with you?!" he snapped from behind. "How can you be so heartless? You want to leave your little sister alone in the house?! By herself?! What kind of wickedness is that?"
I blinked. Just stood there.
Honestly, I didn’t expect that kind of attack. It caught off guard and I almost burst into laughter.
Wicked? ? I only asked a question.
But I didn’t argue. What was the point? If I opened my mouth now, it’d turn into another long drama, and I didn’t have the ti for another one of his lectures.
So I just turned and opened the front door of the car, got in, and waited.
And waited.
And waited.
Dad was doing sothing—I don’t even know what it was. Fixing the back mirror? Talking to himself? Who knows.
Over a full minute passed before he finally entered the car. He sat on the driver’s seat and looked at .
And then... he gave this look.
This disgusted, judgy, eye-rolling kind of look.
"What?" I almost asked. "Why are you looking at like that? What did I do again?"
But I held it in. I just turned my face to the window. Not today.
Then he finally spoke. "Aren’t you supposed to get the signal?"
I blinked.
"What signal?"
Then I sighed. "Please, Dad. I don’t have ti for riddles. I’m already late for this so-called trip that you forced to attend. So if you don’t mind, can we just start the car and go?"
I was trying to stay calm, but my voice was shaking with frustration.
But of course, he didn’t make it easy.
"I’m not starting the car," he said flatly. "Not until you get down from that seat and let my little princess sit in the front."
I turned my head so fast I felt my neck crack.
"You can’t be serious right now," I said, staring at him like he’d grown horns.
"Does it look like I’m joking?" he asked , dead serious.
Unfortunately, it didn’t.
I rubbed my face with both hands. "Dad, start this fucking car. She doesn’t care about sitting in the front. She’s literally fine right there."
I turned to Betty. "Right, Betty?"
She gave that sweet smile of hers and nodded. "Yes, Daddy. It’s okay. I’m fine sitting here."
Bless you, Betty.
I looked back at Dad with a smirk of victory.
He forgot sothing—Betty’s not so baby who’ll cry because she didn’t get to sit in front.
—————
The car finally started, and we were off.
Well... kind of.
Because that was possibly the slowest car ride I’ve ever experienced in my entire life.
I couldn’t tell if it was the countdown in my head, or if Dad was just driving like a turtle on purpose to punish .
⸻
After what felt like eternity, we finally arrived at school.
The mont the car stopped, I didn’t even wait for the engine to go off—I pushed the door open, stepped down, and slamd it shut like it had just insulted .
Yes, I was pissed. But also relieved.
I was about to walk away when I paused. I turned toward the back seat, and there she was.
My heart lted a little.
I forced a small smile and waved at her. She smiled back, waving excitedly through the glass window.
Then I turned to my dad.
He was looking at like he was expecting sothing.
Don’t tell he thought I’d wave at him too?
Hell no.
I turned and walked toward the crowd gathered near the bus. Our classmates were already standing with their luggage, everyone pretending to be excited.
But I wasn’t fooled.
We all hated each other.
That’s the truth no one wanted to say out loud. Why the hell were we packed together like frozen fish in a box? Almost everyone here ca from a rich family. Why couldn’t we just take flights and et at the venue? Why pretend we’re so happy little school family when, in reality, half the people here can’t even stand the other half?
I stood there, arms folded, not moving an inch. My luggage was where I dropped it earlier. If anyone needed to move it—they could do it themselves.
Just then, I felt soone standing close to .
I turned, and guess who it was?
My dad.
"What are you doing here?" I finally asked. "Why are you still standing here when you should be driving back ho?"
He shrugged, like it was nothing. "Left for , Logan, I wouldn’t care. But your baby sister insisted on seeing you off. So, I had to grant her wish."
I rolled my eyes. Classic manipulation tactic.
"Whatever," I muttered.
I turned away and focused on the chaos happening around . Everyone was trying to stand close to their luggage—so were successful, so were failing miserably. It was a bit entertaining, watching them scramble like confused goats.
Then my eyes landed on soone.
Naomi.
She was standing near her box, pretending like she didn’t see .
But I saw her.
And the mont our eyes almost t, I smirked.
She thinks I’ve forgotten.
She thinks she’s off the hook just because I haven’t said anything yet.
Well, bad news for her I never forget. And the assignnt I gave her? I rember every little detail. She’s going to be so disappointed when she finds out just how much I haven’t forgotten.
And then Tyler her best friend or lover or whatever she called him.
The person I want to punch and... whatever. That doesn’t matter right now.
I was going to deal with both of them.
I didn’t care about the stupid feelings anymore. I didn’t care if my heart did that weird jump thing whenever Tyler was close. All I cared about now was making both Naomi and Tyler regret ever agreeing to attend this trip.
Then I heard a voice that pulled out of my thoughts.
"This guy is so cute," soone whispered nearby.
I turned my head slowly.
Speak of the devil
"Who do we have here?"
