Chapter 161- The Lie I Had to Tell

Logan's POV

The mont those words ca out of his mouth, my heart froze.

I stood there like soone who had just seen a ghost. My throat dried up instantly. My body turned stiff. I couldn't breathe properly. It felt like I was standing on the edge of a cliff and one wrong move would send falling straight down.

He just stared at , waiting.

I wanted to speak.

I tried.

But nothing ca out.

Not a single word.

My heart? It was beating so fast and so loud that I was sure he could hear it from where he was sitting.

What?

That's all I managed to say, followed by a weak laugh. God, even I knew it sounded fake. That laugh didn't co from confidence. It ca from panic. Raw, stupid panic.

Even a five-year-old would have known sothing wasn't right. That's how bad I was at hiding it.

He folded his arms, his head tilted to one side. His voice changed—it sounded cocky now, like he had just caught stealing candy.

"Why can't you say anything again, Logan? Weren't you the one running your mouth a few minutes ago? What happened now, huh? Cat got your tongue?"

I didn't answer.

Because I didn't know what to say.

My brain was working overti, trying to co up with a believable lie, sothing smart, sothing that could save from this ss.

But everything I thought of sounded stupid.

I rembered what I told myself earlier: No matter the question, lie. Always lie.

But right now?

I didn't even know which lie to use.

So I just stood there. Quiet. Still.

Staring at my dad like a complete idiot.

He leaned forward again, this ti his tone wasn't cocky—it was serious. Like he was trying to hold onto so hope.

"Say sothing, Logan. Please. Just tell that what I'm thinking isn't true."

I looked at him.

I really looked at him.

And for a second, I thought about telling him the truth.

Just once.

Just one honest mont.

But then I saw his eyes—how they were already judging . Already disappointed.

I couldn't.

I couldn't give him that power.

So I did what I've always done.

And I turned away.

"Think whatever you want to think, Dad," I said quietly, my voice low. "I don't owe you any explanations. So I'd really appreciate it if you stopped asking questions and focused on sothing more important—like finding love again. Maybe even fixing your own ssed up life instead of trying to control mine."

I started walking toward the door, but I had barely taken three steps when he stood up sharply.

"You walk away now," he said coldly, "and it'll look like guilt. And you know how much I hate guilty people."

I stopped.

I wasn't scared of him.

But I respected him.

So I turned around again and looked him in the eye.

If he wanted an explanation, fine.

I'd give him one.

Even if it was a lie.

A well-packaged, well-delivered lie.

Because right now, a lie was safer than the truth.

"Since you want to know so badly..." I said slowly, folding my arms. "Then I guess it's ti you heard it."

He leaned back a little, giving his full attention like I was about to deliver so TED Talk or sothing.

I took a deep breath.

Smiled a little.

"No, Dad. He wasn't the one I had sex with. Why would you think I'd ever sleep with a guy?"

I said it calmly, like I ant it—even though I didn't.

The sick part of it all?

I wasn't really lying.

Because we didn't have sex.

We didn't go all the way.

We just... took turns doing things to each other.

Things that made my heart beat too fast and my chest ache in ways I couldn't explain.

But yeah, technically? We didn't "have sex." So... was it still a lie?

Maybe. Maybe not.

Either way, I said what I had to say.

But the look on my dad's face?

"Was that supposed to be an explanation? Or an answer?"

His voice was low, calm.

"Yes, of course," I said quickly, trying to sound annoyed, like I was tired of repeating myself. "You asked a question, and I answered it. You asked if I had sex with Tyler. I said no. I had sex with a lady, not Tyler. So what else do you want from , Dad?"

My tone started to shift. I was getting defensive. I knew I was slipping, so I tried to guilt-trip him, hoping he'd just back off already.

"Do you want to lie and say I had sex with Tyler just so you can be right?" I added, trying to act offended. "Because I didn't. That's the truth. So maybe stop acting like a detective and start trusting your son for once."

I hoped that would end it.

And for a second, it looked like he was going to.

"Okay, Logan. If you insist," he said, nodding slowly. "I believe you."

I let out a small breath of relief.

But then he tilted his head. That smug look ca back. I should've known better.

"But... if you really had sex with a lady," he continued slowly, "and you still sll like that... that ans you haven't showered yet."

My heart dropped.

"Which ans..." he added, "the lady must still be in your room."

I froze.

"Which also ans... I probably interrupted whatever you both were doing when I called you downstairs."

I wanted to scream.

I wanted to punch the wall.

I wanted to walk up to him and choke the life out of him for still digging.

I thought he said he believed ?

Why was he still asking these kinds of questions?

"Why does that even concern you?" I snapped, trying hard not to lose it. "You're prying too much into my sex life, and it's getting annoying. I'm serious, Dad."

But he just smiled.

That kind of smile that said I know more than you think.

"I didn't an to get you angry, son," he said softly. "I just need to understand what really happened. So please... answer the question."

He stepped closer.

And then he said the one thing I didn't want to hear.

"So that ans... you and this lady were still having sex when I called you downstairs?"

I clenched my jaw.

I wanted to lie again.

I wanted to.

But I couldn't.

Because the sll of fresh sex was still all over .

"You don't have to keep lying to , Logan," he said, still calm. "You don't have to tell that the lady left already. Because I've been in the living room for a very long ti."

He looked dead in the eye.

"And I didn't see anyone co out of your room."

He stepped even closer now. I could hear his breathing.

"And if you still sll like that, it ans whoever you were with should've left minutes ago."

He paused.

"But I didn't see anybody."

"Besides... when I was walking past your room twenty, maybe thirty minutes ago... I heard moaning."
