Chapter 459: Chapter 459: I Died in My Dream Chapter 459: Chapter 459: I Died in My Dream “Co out, and I’ll tell you,” he said.
Taken aback, Qiao Yun quickly got up from the bed and pulled open the curtains.
Through the window, she saw the figure standing downstairs.
His handso features, in the chilly night, were filled with a cold air.
But upon seeing her, a faint tenderness surfaced on his face.
Li Hanzhou saw the light on upstairs and knew Qiao Yun was watching him, so he raised his hand and waved.
Qiao Yun hung up the phone, worried that Li Hanzhou had been waiting too long, and she did not change her clothes.
She descended the stairs in her fluffy pajamas and cotton slippers, making a ‘pat pat’ sound.
Li Hanzhou saw the soft Qiao Yun and slightly frowned, “Why didn’t you change your clothes before coming down?”
“I didn’t want you to wait too long,” Qiao Yun honestly answered.
She did not know the reason for Li Hanzhou’s late visit.
But instinctively, she did not want him to wait too long.
Li Hanzhou said nothing, took off his cashre scarf, and wrapped it around Qiao Yun’s neck.
The scarf, still carrying his body warmth, was very warm, causing Qiao Yun to feel slightly uncomfortable.
Li Hanzhou looked at her and then took off his jacket, draping it over her body.
Qiao Yun’s petite fra was dwarfed in Li Hanzhou’s clothes, making her look even tinier as if a child was wearing an adult’s clothes.
“I’m not cold, you wear it,” Qiao Yun said, truly not feeling cold but rather concerned about him dressed only in a thin black shirt.
And while the scarf was okay, she felt sowhat uneasy with the warmth of the clothes.
It was as if the distance between them had beco negative.
“Behave, I’m not cold,” Li Hanzhou insisted she wear it, then told Qiao Yun, “Let’s go to the park.”
If a man wants to take you to a park in the middle of the night,
most people would resist and even think he had ulterior motives.
Qiao Yun trusted Li Hanzhou. When he asked her to walk, she walked.
Her unquestioning trust brought a faint smile to Li Hanzhou’s lips.
The feeling of being trusted pleasures him both ntally and physically.
Li Hanzhou couldn’t help but take her hand in his large one, finding himself an excuse, “It’s dark, I’ll lead you.”
“Oh,” Qiao Yun did not withdraw her hand.
Because she had never experienced the sensation of holding hands with a good friend.
Neither of them was very talkative, so it was quiet as they walked.
Upon reaching the destination, Li Hanzhou reluctantly let go of Qiao Yun’s hand.
Qiao Yun looked at her hand, thinking, so this is what it feels like to hold hands with a good friend.
Her hand was still warm.
Before Qiao Yun could ask him anything, Li Hanzhou took a box of sparklers out from his trouser pocket, “Have you ever lit fireworks before?”
Qiao Yun blinked, staring blankly at him.
Li Hanzhou took out a sparkler and lit it with a lighter.
The spark montarily lit up his sharply defined face.
He handed it to Qiao Yun.
She foolishly accepted it.
The sparks weren’t dazzling but were warm enough to thaw Qiao Yun’s icy face.
Seeing Qiao Yun staring at him, Li Hanzhou playfully raised his eyebrows and asked, “Am I that good-looking? You’re staring blankly.”
Qiao Yun spoke earnestly, “Setting off fireworks is banned in Beijing, and this is illegal. You could be fined.”
Li Hanzhou hadn’t expected that his attempt at a poetic mont would end up being a lesson in law.
Well then.
Discussing romance with a child was never going to be romantic.
His lips twitched, and he said, not very happily, “Of course big fireworks aren’t allowed, but these small ones don’t count, so they are definitely okay to use.”
“Oh,” Qiao Yun pondered and felt there was so logic to it, her eyes questioning as she looked at Li Hanzhou’s handso face, “Why?”
Li Hanzhou glanced at the ti, then lifted his eyes to et hers and smiled gently, “Little girl, happy new year. May you grow taller in the coming year.”
“I was the first to wish you a Happy New Year, right?”
He also wanted to be the first person Qiao Yun saw in the New Year.
Qiao Yun was startled for a mont.
Then she realized it.
Yesterday had beco last year, and after midnight, it was the New Year.
Qiao Yun was sowhat moved, she seed to rember sothing, and said with certainty, “You were the first.”
Li Hanzhou thought Qiao Yun was referring to the first now.
But he did not know.
The first Happy New Year that Qiao Yun received in this world was from the young Li Hanzhou.
That day she woke up to the young Li Hanzhou telling her in a reassuring voice,
‘Happy New Year, I will make sure you live well this year.’
He kept his promise, and Qiao Yun lived well afterward, and continues to do so now.
She now had family, she had friends.
Qiao Yun ca back to reality, looked seriously at Li Hanzhou, and said, “Happy New Year, live well this year.”
Li Hanzhou watched her for a long while, then suddenly grabbed Qiao Yun’s hand and placed it on his chest.
“Is the heartbeat fast?”
Qiao Yun carefully felt it and nodded, “Yes, it’s fast.”
Li Hanzhou looked intently at Qiao Yun and said, “I had a dream where I died, and all we are experiencing now is just an illusion.”
That’s why he was eager to see Qiao Yun.
To prove he was still alive.
That his experiences now were real.
Qiao Yun’s breath hitched, unsure if Li Hanzhou was recalling sothing, she thought for a mont, then suddenly hugged Li Hanzhou.
She patted his back lightly with her small hands as if to reassure him.
“It’s not fake, I’m real, try holding .”
She tilted her head, her ear against the man’s chest, listening to his strong heartbeat, “I can hear it, you are alive.”
Li Hanzhou was suddenly hugged, his body stiffening montarily.
It wasn’t the first ti Qiao Yun had hugged him.
But none of those tis had felt as close, as real as today.
He restrained himself as he raised his hand and gently patted Qiao Yun’s back, “I know, you are real, you can let go of now.”
He was afraid he would lose control.
Qiao Yun let go of him, looking a bit embarrassed, “Sorry, I hugged you without your permission.”
Actually, she quite liked hugging Li Hanzhou.
His body temperature was warm, and his build was just right; he also had a faint scent of cold fragrance, making it very comfortable to hug him.
Too bad Li Hanzhou was not a doll.
Qiao Yun did not realize that she did not treat Li Hanzhou as a doll, but rather, Li Hanzhou was the first person she trusted.
That’s why she felt secure when she was with him.
Qiao Yun did not understand that this feeling was called security; she just found it comfortable and easy to be around Li Hanzhou.
“You don’t have to say sorry for anything you do to ,”
Li Hanzhou was well aware that Qiao Yun’s close, intimate hug had no other implications; she was simply comforting him in her own way to reassure him.
He paused, then added a sentence, “Only do this with , doing it with others would be impolite.”
Qiao Yun was puzzled, “I will give a heads-up, so it won’t be impolite.”
“Still, it’s not okay.”
Li Hanzhou was being unreasonably stubborn.
Qiao Yun nodded, her tone inexplicably soothing, “Okay, okay.”
Li Hanzhou then laughed, his laughter soft.
Considering his current age, he should have just graduated from college, but being precocious, he finished all his coursework in his teens.
His laughter, now, had a bit of the flamboyant recklessness of his peers.
